Chapter 357
However, Oliver wasn’t ordinary. He possessed extraordinary willpower.
Or perhaps it was because he had to save his wife and daughter that he forced himself to have such willpower.
Enduring excruciating physical pain, he fought to protect his wife and daughter.
Four loyal bodyguards arrived in time and managed to rescue them.
But Dominic and Owen had already set an ambush. Even with four bodyguards protecting him, Oliver was outmatched. As the toxin in his body grew worse, he began to falter.
Three bodyguards stayed behind to hold off the attackers, one after another, all dying tragically.
Only Anson remained, escaping with Oliver, his wife, and daughter.
Along the way, Oliver’s assistant came to meet them.
But by then, Oliver’s body had reached its limit. He could barely walk.
He didn’t want to become Gareth’s puppet. And to ensure his wife and daughter could completely escape, he decided to stay behind and
face Gareth.
He told Anson to take his wife and daughter and get them somewhere safe.
Melinda knew this goodbye meant life or death. She didn’t want to leave–she’d rather die with her husband.
But for their daughter’s sake, she had no choice but to go.
In the end, there were no exceptions.
Oliver and his assistant successfully held off the killers, but they were also exhausted, trapped in a tight encirclement.
To ensure Anson could escape with the others, the assistant set a fire, dying alongside Oliver.
What Gareth eventually found were two people burned beyond recognition, their features unidentifiable.
Combined with the bodies of the other three bodyguards and confirmation that one of the burned bodies was Oliver, everyone assumed Anson had died there, too.
In reality, the assistant had taken Anson’s place.

Chapter 357
Anson had hidden with Melinda and Louisa in a fisherman’s home.
By then, Melinda was barely clinging to life.
She’d given birth just three days earlier, her body not yet recovered. After fleeing all night, knowing her husband was likely dead-
She was devastated.
Gareth told her that if she’d be with him, he’d spare her and her daughter.
But Melinda wouldn’t betray her husband.
Partly to ensure her daughter could live, and partly because she no longer wanted to live herself.
She entrusted her daughter to Anson, making him promise to protect the child and let her live a normal life.
She kissed her daughter one last time, then took the baby’s clothing and left.
She ran to the sea. In front of Gareth, clutching her daughter’s clothes, she jumped into the ocean.
Everyone believed she’d been driven to desperation and had committed suicide with her child.
Meanwhile, Anson had stayed hidden with Louisa in the fisherman’s home. He waited for that night to pass, waited for dawn, waited for Gareth and Lorelei’s people to withdraw. Only then did he escape with Louisa.
Afterward, he changed his name to Brian Forbes and, with Louisa and his own family, began living under assumed identities.
Now twenty–seven years had passed. Louisa was twenty–seven years old.
But the scenes from that night–Oliver, Melinda, and his comrades dying one by one before his eyes–remained vivid in Brian’s mind,
never fading.
Finally, he lost control, covering his face as tears streamed through his fingers.
Julian closed his eyes tightly, saying nothing.
He understood Brian’s pain.
All his allies, his friends–they’d all left that night, leaving only him behind.
The sole survivor, the only one who knew the truth, suffered the most.
After a long while, Brian gradually calmed down.

Chapter 357
A 55
He continued, “Actually, all these years I’ve been secretly following the Getty family’s situation. Without Mr. Oliver Getty in the way, Gareth smoothly inherited the Getty Syndicate. That vicious woman, Lorelei, successfully married him, too.
Dominic and Owen got what they wanted, successfully creating the prosperity they’d envisioned.
But what was the result? Didn’t Gareth still fail to resist how things developed?
When the country cracked down on crime, many of his ‘operations‘ couldn’t continue. Isn’t he still relying on Mr. Oliver Getty’s reforms to
keep the Getty Syndicate afloat?
Oh, wait–it can’t be called Getty Syndicate anymore. It’s the Getty Group now.
I heard Gareth and Lorelei had a daughter–intellectually disabled.
Gareth’s getting old now. Watching the empire he gained by stepping over his brother and sister–in–law’s corpses end up with no heir,
having to hand it to Mr. Nicholas Getty anyway—it’s karma! Karma!”
Brian spoke with such hatred, his teeth grinding.
Julian nodded. “That’s exactly right. He’s consulted many doctors but can’t cure his daughter. He can’t have more children either. Thes past few years, he’s grown increasingly anxious, even having nightmares. He’s seen quite a few psychiatrists.”
Brian continued, “Even though he wasn’t the mastermind twenty–seven years ago, without his indulgence and permission, Lorelei,
Dominic, and Owen wouldn’t have dared do such things.
That’s also why I didn’t agree to Louisa being with George at first. Children may be innocent, but George’s father killed Mr. Oliver Getty.
How could Louisa be with the son of her father’s murderer?
Especially thinking about what Louisa endured at the Capulet family all these years, being looked down on by them–it makes me furious. They enjoyed the wealth the Getty family provided while looking down on the Getty family’s young lady. What gives them the right?”
Brian slammed his fist on the table, making the teacups rattle and spilling tea everywhere.
He suddenly looked at Julian, taking in his calm expression.
He couldn’t help asking, “You already knew all this?”
Julian nodded. “I knew part of it, but not the specific details of what happened then. That’s why I needed to confirm with you.”
Brian was confused. “If you already knew, telling Louisa would definitely have started a war between her and George. Why didn’t you tell
her?”
