Chapter 412
Louisa instinctively glanced over.
Hazel?
She actually came too?
Since Louisa had already put on her mask, Hazel didn’t recognize her.
Hazel politely thanked Rachel and headed toward the mask room.
Louisa and her group walked toward the ballroom.
Flora and Sadie also moved closer to Louisa.
Sadie said, “Didn’t expect your ex–mother–in–law to show up. Good
thing we put on our masks first, or that old hag would definitely give
you trouble.”
Flora said, “What, you’re afraid she’ll cause problems?”
Sadie said, “I’m not afraid of her. Just trying to avoid unnecessary
drama.”

Rachel laughed. “Don’t worry. These high–society ladies care most
about face. They generally won’t do anything in public that makes
them lose dignity.”
Louisa nodded in agreement.
She knew Hazel too well. Even if they came face to face, Hazel
wouldn’t cause trouble–she’d just pretend not to know her.
Because in Hazel’s mind, knowing someone of Louisa’s status was the
most degrading thing possible.
But there was no need to share this with her friends.
The four of them grabbed drinks and gathered together to chat.
Gradually, more guests arrived. Seeing Louisa and her three friends standing together–each with a better figure than the last, each beautiful in her own way even with their faces covered–people couldn’t help but speculate about their identities.
Soon, someone recognized Rachel, and someone else recognized
Flora.
They came over to chat.

Chapter 412
Sadie didn’t know anyone, so she helped herself to the hors d’oeuvres.
Louisa sipped her wine lightly, discreetly observing the arriving
guests… who were all women?
Not a single man.
What kind of ball had only female guests? How strange.
When Louisa saw the people around Rachel had left, leaving Rachel
alone, she walked over and asked in a low voice, “Rachel, is tonight’s
ball a women–only event?”
Rachel slowly shook her head. “When I accepted the invitation, they
didn’t mention it being women–only.”
This ball was getting stranger and stranger.
Flora, overhearing their conversation, came over and said, “My family
has dealt with this Mrs. Xanthe Boleyn before, She and her husband
are both influential figures in Silverlight City, and they’ve done a lot of charity work. She’s not some pyramid scheme leader. Aren’t you two being overly paranoid?”
Sadie, seeing the three of them huddled together talking, seemed to sense something was off.

She walked over and asked, “What’s wrong? Is there a problem?”
Rachel and Flora exchanged glances. Neither spoke, simultaneously
turning their eyes toward Louisa.
At this point, Louisa decided not to keep things from Sadie anymore.
She said bluntly, “Regardless, people’s hearts are hard to read. Since
we all feel something’s off, let’s stay alert and be careful.”
Flora looked around again. “There are so many people here–all
socialites and wealthy ladies. This is a private club, and Mrs. Boleyn is
a prominent figure. Even if she wanted to pull something, she’d find
some hidden places. She wouldn’t announce to the entire social circle
so brazenly, ‘I’m about to pull something,‘ would she? That would
offend the entire upper class.”
Louisa said, “You’re not wrong, but let’s still be careful.”
Rachel said nothing.
She was the one who brought her friends here, so naturally she felt
responsible for ensuring everyone’s safety.
Sadie was silent for a moment, then her expression turned serious. “I
trust Louisa’s instincts.”

Louisa and Sadie exchanged glances and, in perfect sync, set their
wine glasses on the counter.
Seeing this, Flora immediately followed suit.
She smiled at Louisa and Sadie. “I trust Louisa’s judgment too.”
On many critical matters, Louisa’s perspective and sharp instincts
had never been wrong.
Rachel was somewhat dumbfounded.
Were they being a bit dramatic?
Even if Xanthe wanted to pull something, she wouldn’t poison the
drinks in the ballroom, would she?
Did they suspect Xanthe planned to poison everyone in the entire
ballroom?
Had Xanthe lost her mind?
Rachel thought Louisa and the others were making a mountain out of a molehill. She wanted to take a sip of wine to calm her nerves, but as she brought the glass to her lips and saw the three glasses neatly lined up on the counter, then looked at the wine in her hand…

Rachel ultimately didn’t drink it. She placed her glass alongside
theirs.
Good friends, of course, had to stick together.
Even though she’d already had a sip.
Next, they continued chatting as if nothing had happened.
More female guests arrived, each dripping with jewels and pearls. But
because of the masks, they could only judge by clothing–some older women looked dignified and elegant, while younger ones appeared
fresh and vibrant.
The only problem was, they couldn’t tell who was who.
Sadie’s gaze swept over Hazel several times. She lowered her voice and whispered in Louisa’s ear, “Do you think Mrs. Boleyn suddenly changed it to a masquerade because she discovered several of the people she invited were enemies, and she was afraid of trouble
breaking out at the party?”
Flora said, “That makes sense. Like Louisa and that old hag…”
The “old hag‘ naturally referred to Hazel.

Louisa couldn’t help but smile. She couldn’t deny they had a point.
In high society, awkward relationships like hers with Hazel probably
