Louisa looked at the message and laughed coldly. Adeline wanted her gone before Julian came back.

The second day.

Louisa reached out to a few close friends, inviting them to dinner that evening.

Except for Flora, who didn’t answer, both Sadie and Rachel agreed.

That night, they met at a restaurant.

Louisa even ordered two bottles of wine.

Both Sadie and Rachel felt something was off with Louisa, but when they asked, she said nothing was wrong.

In the end, all three of them drank too much.

She picked up her phone, ready to throw caution to the wind and call him.

But as her finger hovered over the last digit, she froze.

She steadied her emotions.

After a moment of thought, she called Teddy instead…

Finally, Julian spoke. “Answer it.”

Teddy fumbled to pick up the call, immediately switching it to speaker.

He glanced nervously at his boss, then spoke cautiously. “Louisa, what’s up?”

“Are you busy? Did I interrupt?”

Louisa’s tone was flat, emotionless.

his boss again and said quietly, “Not busy. What’s going on?”

Louisa paused for a second before asking, “How are things going over there? When are you planning to come back?”

Teddy glanced at his boss again, choosing his words carefully. “Things are mostly wrapped up. We should be back the day after tomorrow in the afternoon.”
