Chapter 489
Hawk had thought that after coming out of prison, he had nothing left to fear.
But faced with the gleaming splendor of Tudor Manor and the commanding presence of the Tudor family, he felt his courage falter.
He glanced toward Adeline, then quickly lowered his head. “Y–yes, I’m Louisa’s brother. I can tell you everything about Louisa.”
He stuttered through that single sentence.
Adeline asked, “If you tell us everything about Louisa, what do you want in return?”
Hawk said, “Money! I just want money! One million dollars. Give me the money, and I’ll tell you whatever you want to know.”
He rushed through the words.
William let out a cold laugh but said nothing.
That laugh, combined with the aura of authority radiating from William, made Hawk shudder.
Adeline spoke slowly. “A million dollars isn’t much. But how do I know your information is worth that much?”
Hawk didn’t answer immediately. He cautiously lifted his head and looked toward Adeline.
Then he met William’s icy gaze.
Haw
bed and quickly changed his tune. “Five hundred thousand. Five hundred thousand is fine too.”
Adeline frowned.
She had no interest in haggling with some ex–con.
Just as she was about to speak, William placed a hand on hers, signaling her to stay quiet.
Then William looked at Hawk. “Five hundred thousand, one million–the Tudor family doesn’t lack that kind of money. But you won’t get a dime from us today. We don’t need to know anything about Louisa. Leave.”
He gave the nearby bodyguard a look.

The bodyguard immediately understood, stepped forward, grabbed Hawk, and started dragging him out.
Hawk shouted in panic, “I promise my information is valuable! If you don’t listen, you’ll regret it!”
William remained unmoved.
But Adeline couldn’t help herself. “Wait.”
Louisa had no idea Hawk had gone to Tudor Manor.
She only knew he wouldn’t let things go easily.
That afternoon, when Adeline’s call came through, Louisa had her answer.
She stared at the phone for a long moment before finally answering, her tone calm. “Mrs. Tudor, hello.”
Adeline wasn’t sharp or sarcastic.
Her voice still carried the gentle warmth Louisa remembered. “Ms. Forbes, are you free tonight? Let’s have dinner together.”
Louisa paused slightly.
If Adeline was calling her today, Hawk must have already approached the Tudor family.
For Adeline to still be this polite–it spoke to her innate grace.
Louisa smiled faintly. She didn’t beat around the bush. “You’re calling to ask me to leave Mr. Tudor, aren’t you? There’s no need for dinner. If you have something to say, just say it over the phone.”
Adelit
Baken aback.
She hadn’t expected Louisa to be so direct–or so composed.
But since Louisa had already put it out there, Adeline spoke plainly too. “I do think you and Julian aren’t quite suited for each other. However, Ms. Forbes is clearly talented, and we’ve all seen that. Being just an investment director is beneath you. The commercial district in the southeast region needs a capable leader. I think Ms. Forbes would be an excellent general manager there. What do you think?”
The words were beautifully phrased, with no hint of insult toward Louisa.
And on the surface, going from director to general manager looked like a promotion.

But it meant transferring from headquarters to a regional post–away from the center of power.
It was a promotion in name only, a demotion in reality.
Louisa couldn’t quite figure out Adeline’s approach. She wanted Louisa to leave Julian, but felt guilty about it?
Louisa found it almost amusing. She actually laughed out loud.
Adeline felt a hint of disrespect and her tone cooled. “Ms. Forbes, are you unwilling?”
Louisa laughed openly. “I’m grateful to you–for letting me leave Mr. Tudor while still leaving me a way to survive.
But I’m afraid I’ll have to waste your kindness.”
Adeline said, “You’re refusing to go?”
Louisa smiled. “Don’t misunderstand. Mr. Tudor has been good to me. If I’m going to leave, I should repay his kindness first. I’ve heard that there’s a subsidiary in the northwest region under the Tudor Group. Its performance has been declining for years. Several leaders have tried and failed to turn it around. I’d like to go there and try. Whether I succeed or not, I’ll resign from the Tudor Group afterward.”
Adeline was stunned.
She’d imagined many possible reactions from Louisa–but never that she’d request her own exile.
William overheard Louisa’s words and immediately gave his wife a look, signaling her not to agree.
But Adeline was focused solely on getting Louisa to leave.
Her only concern was how her son would react when he found out.
After
nt of silence, she asked Louisa, “What do you plan to tell Julian?”
Louisa sneered inwardly.
Since she was leaving anyway, she might as well be blunt.
She said coolly, “From the sound of it, you not only want me to leave–you want me to take all the blame and make Julian hate me.”
Adeline was speechless.
She realized she was being unreasonable.

But Louisa only wanted to expose their hypocrisy. She had no intention of making things harder for Adeline.
She said calmly, “You should have confidence in your son. Even if he’s angry, he won’t turn against his own mother
over a woman.”
Louisa could tell Adeline was a gentle, kind, and refined person.
No wonder Julian respected and loved her so much.
