Julian sat at his desk, working through the last of his documents.

Teddy stood to one side.

His phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out–a message from Elara, detailing the situation at the northwest branch.

He reported to Julian, “Mr. Tudor, the employees at the northwest branch aren’t being very cooperative. They’ve gotten used to coasting–all they want to do is nothing. But it looks like Louisa has already found a solution.”

He paused there, a note of admiration in his voice. “It’s really something, isn’t it? She’s only been there a few days. Ever since Mr. Adams purchased that mountain fifteen years ago and established the northwest branch, there have been no fewer than ten project managers sent out there. Every single one said the environment was too harsh, that nothing would grow, that there was nothing to be done. And now Louisa’s been there less than a week and she’s already found a way forward. I’m dying to know what her plan actually is.”

He rambled on, genuinely curious and excited.

But when he glanced over at Julian, Julian hadn’t reacted at all–as if Louisa’s results came as no surprise to him whatsoever.

Just then, the office door chimed.

Teddy went to open it. Adela stood outside, holding a document.

“What is it?” Teddy asked.

“This just came up from below–a budget request and a project proposal from the northwest.”

“The northwest?” Teddy’s eyes lit up. “Give it here.”

Adela handed it over.

Teddy closed the office door and walked briskly to Julian’s desk. “Mr. Tudor, this is the northwest project restructura proposal. It has to be

Louisa’s work.”

At the sound of Louisa’s name, Julian’s pen paused almost imperceptibly.

He set the pen down and took the proposal.

Teddy would never presume to read something work–related before Julian–it always went to the boss first. But he was burning with curiosity, so as Julian read, he quietly leaned over and peeked.

The proposal was detailed easily twenty or thirty pages.

The conditions in the northwest were brutal. Everyone who’d been sent there had been desperate to come back early. Yet she would rather go through the slow, formal approval process than pick up the phone and call him directly.
