Doing the math, her period was already several days late.

If she really was pregnant and he found out, things would get complicated.

She needed to confirm it first.

She said to Julian, “I’m fine. Maybe I’ve just been eating too light lately and my stomach can’t handle greasy food all at once.”

Julian said nothing, just looked at her.

Louisa felt uneasy under his gaze, her words stumbling. “W–what?”

Julian said, “You’ve used that excuse twice before. This is the third time.”

Chapter 531

Julian fell silent again.

Even if she was hiding something from him, it was because he hadn’t given her enough confidence to trust him completely.

He shouldn’t blame her.

Louisa wrapped her arms around his waist, acting coquettish. “Don’t worry. I wouldn’t neglect my own health. If something was really wrong, I’d tell you.”

With that, Julian dropped the subject and led her out.

He ordered some lighter dishes for her.

After the meal, Julian sent Teddy and Noah out to stock up on food and water for the road.

Louisa wanted to browse around too, so Julian personally accompanied her.

Passing by a pharmacy, Louisa thought about buying a pregnancy test.

She glanced around and spotted a fruit tea shop.

She said to Julian, “I want some fruit tea. Can you go get me some?”

“Sure.” Julian noticed she didn’t plan to go with him. “What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to buy that.” She pointed to a nearby stall selling pastries.

Julian didn’t press further, only reminding her, “Wait here for me after you buy it. Don’t wander off.”

“Okay.” Louisa agreed.

As soon as Julian left, she hurried into the pharmacy.

After buying the pregnancy test, she came out and bought some pastries too, to avoid suspicion.

Though the pastries really were delicious. On the way back to the hotel, Louisa ate several pieces.

Julian glanced at her multiple times. “That good?”

“Yeah.” She unwrapped a piece and held it to his lips. “Want to try?”

Julian looked at her for two seconds, then took a bite.

“Is it good?” Louisa asked expectantly.

Julian’s expression was indescribable. “Good…”

So sour.

How could she eat something that sour?

Louisa ate another piece.

Back at the hotel, Louisa made an excuse and retreated to the bedroom.

Julian sat in the living room, watching her go in and never come back out.

He remembered earlier–when he’d returned with her fruit tea, he’d seen her coming out of the pharmacy.

Clearly, she’d sent him away so she could buy something at the pharmacy.

And all the way back, she hadn’t mentioned it…

Thinking this, he took his phone to the balcony and called Leroy.

Leroy answered quickly. “I heard you quit your own company to chase your wife. How’s that going? When are we invited to the wedding?

“Don’t worry, you’ll get your chance to give a gift.”

“I’ve been ready. But I have to say, this is the first time I’ve seen you this desperate–chasing someone all the way to the middle of nowhere. It’s weird, you know? A woman who’s immune to Mr. Tudor’s charm. Impressive, impressive.”

“Enough with the nonsense.” Julian had called mainly to ask about Louisa’s condition.

Leroy asked, “Tell me, what symptoms does she have?”

Julian said, “She’s eating very little, much less appetite than before. She keeps feeling nauseous and wanting to throw up, but she refuses to go to the hospital. Lately she’s been craving sour foods–she never ate sour things before. And she’s sleeping way more than usual.

Leroy said, “From your description, those sound like pregnancy symptoms.”

“Pregnancy?” Julian was shocked.

Louisa stared at the two red lines on the pregnancy test, unable to process it for a long time.

Even though she’d had a feeling, seeing the confirmation left her mind blank.

What should she do? Should she keep this baby or not?

She hesitated.

She actually liked children.

During the time after her divorce from George, she’d even thought that she’d never let herself be trapped in marriage again, never be tied down by a man.
