After the Cold Marriage His Crazy Love (Iris and Julian) novel Chapter 116

Chapter 116 No Divorce

Julian stood up and his eyes landed on the two suitcases she had packed.

He froze. His fists tightened before he even realized it.

He strode over to her wardrobe and yanked the door open.

It was totally empty. Not a single piece of clothing was left inside.

He turned around and saw the dressing table was empty too.

Even the desk next to it was spotless, like it had never been used.

He walked up to the dressing table and pulled out a drawer.

There was nothing in it. He slammed it shut.

“Bang!” The empty drawer hit the dresser with a loud crash.

Iris jumped to her feet, her eyes fixed on him, nervousness written all over her face.

Julian tilted his head back and took a deep breath. He calmed down a little before turning to Iris on the bed. His voice sounded soft, but every word was laced with anger. “What did I ever do to you? We’re still married. Why are you in such a rush to move out?”

Iris fumbled for words, her voice nervous. “The paperwork won’t take long. I have to move out sooner or later anyway.”

Julian’s voice turned sharp and firm. “Iris, you know I won’t agree to a divorce.”

“I know that,” Iris said, just as firm. “But you can’t fight the law. If the first lawsuit doesn’t work, I’ll file another one. This divorce is going to happen, no matter what you do.”

Julian gave a bitter smile, his eyes filled with helplessness. “You’re so dead set on divorcing me. Are you in a hurry to marry someone else?”

His words made Iris kneel up on the bed, her back straight with frustration. “Julian! I stood by you when you had those rumors with Selena. I stayed even when you flirted with Lily. And now you’re accusing me of seeing someone else?”

“Fine, I’ll believe you,” Julian said, nodding toward the suitcases. His voice was tough. “Put your clothes back and drop the divorce case.”

Iris spoke from the bottom of her heart. “Julian, I really don’t want to be with you anymore. This marriage has no hope. It’s draining me and making me so unhappy.”

Julian walked over, grabbed her arms and pulled her right up to him.

Iris’s soft body stumbled, almost falling into his chest. Her hands shot out to steady herself, pressing against his firm chest, her palms touching his warm skin.

Julian’s voice turned cold. “Do you have a guy you like?”

His grip on her arms was so tight it hurt. Iris stared into his deep eyes and shook her head, her voice nervous. “No.”

“If you don’t like anyone else, and you don’t like me… if you’re that indifferent, then we don’t have to get divorced,” he said.

Iris felt tired to her bones. “Two years is a long time. We’re just wasting each other’s lives.”

A faint sadness crossed Julian’s eyes. “Iris, we can start over. We can do better.”

Iris blurted out the words before she could stop herself. “I don’t want to.”

Julian pulled her into a tight hug, so tight she could barely move. He buried his face in the crook of her neck and took a deep breath. “What am I supposed to do with you?”

The sudden hug took Iris’s breath away. She couldn’t even inhale properly.

His chest was hard and solid, his arms strong enough to hold her in place. His warm breath brushed against her neck, making her skin tingle. A faint numbness spread through her body, like little flames moving from her neck to her fingers and toes.

Her mind was all jumbled up. She really couldn’t figure him out.

If Julian was this scared of losing her, he should have cared about her all along.

So why hadn’t he cherished her in these two years?

Now that things had gotten this bad, why was he acting so loving, like he couldn’t live without her?

Iris froze in his arms for a long time, feeling lost and confused. “Julian, we’re just not right for each other. You hate how quiet I am, how boring I am, how reserved I am. You haven’t forgotten how much you disliked me before, have you?”

“I didn’t mean those things,” Julian said, hugging her even tighter. “I was just angry when I said them.”

“Angry?” Iris was stunned. She paused for a second before pushing further. “Then what were you so angry about? What did I do?”

Julian went silent. He tightened his arms, pressing her soft, sweet-smelling body against his chest like he wanted to merge her into his own heart.

Iris could feel the pressure of his hug. It was almost painful.

After a minute, Julian avoided her question entirely. “I promise you, I’ll never say those things again.”

“Other bad marriages at least have good days and bad days. You’ve been cold to me the whole time. I’ve asked for a divorce twice, and you begged me to stay both times. You just don’t want to be a divorcee. It’s
