Even so, Yvette’s heart still felt empty. She would find herself thinking about Brandon at the most random moments.
Every time night fell, she would eagerly wait for her phone to ring.
And Brandon never disappointed her. He called her on video almost every night like clockwork.
“Yvette, did you eat well today?” On the screen, Brandon’s voice sounded a bit tired, but his eyes were full of tenderness.
Yvette nodded. “Yeah, the housekeeper made a lot of good food. What about you? Are you getting used to it over there?”
“Everything’s fine here. I just miss you too much.” As Brandon spoke, his eyes showed a deep sense of longing.
Yvette felt a sweet sensation in her heart, but then she remembered the box in his closet, and her smile stiffened slightly.
Brandon was quick to notice the change in her mood. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling okay?”
“I’m fine,” Yvette said softly, not wanting him to worry. “I’m just a little tired.”
“Then go take a shower and get some sleep. We’ll talk tomorrow.”
Seeing him about to hang up, Yvette panicked. “Brandon!”
“Yeah?”
Yvette didn’t want to end the call, but she didn’t know what to say. She stayed silent for a few seconds, looking down.
Brandon bit his lip nervously and asked tentatively, “Do you miss me?”
Yvette let out a heavy breath and nodded.
A relieved smile instantly broke across Brandon’s handsome face. “Just a few more days. Once things are settled here, I’ll fly back to see you immediately.”
“Okay,” she said, forcing a smile.

She didn’t know how Brandon really felt about her, or if she could ever truly enter his heart.
But even so, she couldn’t stop missing him–his tenderness, his bossiness, and every moment they spent together.
One day, while Yvette was busy at the office, she suddenly heard a commotion outside her door.
Before she could react, the door was slammed open, and Irene walked in, looking furious.
Then, with a loud bang, she shut the door.
She quickly reached over and cut the wires to the office surveillance cameras.
Yvette was startled by the sudden intrusion and stood up, looking at Irene warily. “What are you doing?”
Irene’s face was a mask of rage and resentment. She marched up to Yvette, her finger almost poking Yvette in the face. “Yvette, you’re really something! You actually had my ex–boyfriend wait in ambush at my front door to harass me? You think I’ll just let you bully me? I’m telling you, I’m going to hit back!”
Yvette frowned, her annoyance rising. “Deng Yu is your ex. Your relationship problems shouldn’t involve me, and he definitely shouldn’t be harassing me.”
Irene gave a cold laugh, her eyes dark and her expression grim.
She sat down in the chair across the desk, slowly pulled a stack of papers from her bag, and slammed them onto the desk. “Want to take a look?”
“What is this?” Yvette picked up the papers and flipped through them.
She remained expressionless.
Irene looked smug. “Brandon doesn’t like me, but he doesn’t like you either. He’s had a first love for years–his sister’s best friend, Zoe.”
She was being deliberately provocative, as if these words could hurt Yvette or get under her skin.
But to her surprise, Yvette remained calm. “So what? That’s in the past.”

Seeing Yvette so composed and refusing to back down, Irene got even more worked past? You’re so naive! He’s still crazy about Zoe. What do you think you are? You’re just a replacement he’s using to fill the void!”
Yvette’s heart felt a sharp pang of pain. Irene was saying exactly what she feared most.
But she took a deep breath and tried to stay calm. “Brandon and I are married. You can’t change that with a few words.”
“The
Irene wouldn’t let it go, a malicious smile spreading across her face. “Listen to me, Yvette. You and your mom stole my happiness and ruined my family. I won’t let you have a good life. I’m going to take Brandon away from you. And if I can’t have him, I’ll destroy your marriage and the man himself!”
Yvette’s body swayed slightly. She hadn’t expected Irene to be this insane.
But she quickly straightened her back and looked Irene in the eye. “You think you can break us up like this? No matter what you say or do, I’m not giving up easily.”
Enraged by Yvette’s attitude, Irene reached out to grab Yvette’s hair, screaming, “You b*tch!”
Yvette was prepared. She dodged Irene’s attack and shouted, “Irene, don’t push it! If you keep acting like a lunatic, I’m calling the police! I’ll let the whole world see how ugly the famous actress really is behind the scenes!”
Irene finally stopped, glaring at Yvette with pure hatred. “Yvette, you just wait! This war is just beginning!”
With that, she turned and stormed out, slamming the door.
Yvette collapsed into her chair, and the tears finally started to fall.
