Chapter 50 A Forced Choice
She barely got to see Julian anymore.
But she’d been living like this for two years, so she was used to it.
It was the weekend, and Iris wasn’t resting. She was working overtime in the lab.
A call from Frederick made her drop everything and head to the Rosehill Estate.
Inside the villa, in the low–key but luxurious study…
Iris sat upright on a lounge sofa. Frederick sat across from her, casually making her coffee.
Iris felt nervous.
This was the first time Frederick had asked to see her alone.

After the tedious coffee–making process, Frederick set a cup in front of Iris. “Freshly brewed coffee. You’ll like it.”
“Thank you.” Iris nodded politely, picking up the cup with both hands and sipping slowly.
Frederick’s polite treatment left Iris confused.
Frederick took a sip of coffee, his tone warm. “Your new drug made a breakthrough. It was on the news- impressive.”
Iris set down her cup. From just that one sentence, she already guessed his motive.
Frederick leaned back on the sofa, looking at Iris with the authority of an elder. “I was shallow before. I never thought your small lab could crack another rare disease so fast. This new special drug of yours–it’s one of a kind in the world. Amazing.”
“Frederick, just say what you want.” Iris didn’t have time for his nonsense.
“That contract Julian talked to you about before, we can restart the signing. I won’t stand in the way anymore.” Frederick’s tone sounded like a pardon, or a handout.
Iris didn’t beat around the bush. She refused directly. “I’m sorry. I don’t have any plans to partner right
now.”
Frederick’s face turned dark instantly. He said sharply, “You should remember your place.”
Iris replied, “Of course. I’m the owner of a pharmaceutical company. Officially, I’m also a pharmacologist.”
Frederick clenched his fist, his face turning livid. His voice turned cold and stern, correcting her firmly. “You’re my daughter–in–law, Julian’s wife. The first thing you should think about is the Everhart family’s interests. You’re holding such a big opportunity. Why give it to strangers instead of your own family?”
Iris held back her anger, forcing herself not to speak. Was she really expected to give up her name and career after getting married, just to be someone’s accessory? It was ridiculous.
Frederick ordered in a harsh tone. “Refuse the government’s funding immediately. Turn down their team. I’ll have Julian set up a new research team to help you. We’ll stick to the equity ratio you and Julian talked about before, but Everhart Group must have the pricing and operation rights.”

Iris slowly clenched her fist.
She’d never met such a shameless businessman. How dare he say such things?
When there was no profit, he’d acted arrogant, looked down on her, ignored her, and trampled on her
career.
And now?
Seeing Iris stay quiet, Frederick thought she’d agreed. His tone softened a little. “You’re really good at researching drugs, but you don’t know business. I had professionals evaluate it. This new drug of yours is one of a kind in the world.
“Even if we price it at hundreds of thousands, even millions per shot, sick people will do anything to get it to survive. Based on the number of patients worldwide, even if only 10% can afford it, we’ll make at least ten billion a year. Maybe more.”
Frederick refilled her coffee, lecturing her. “You can’t run a business like it’s charity. Partnering with the government means this drug will end up as a cheap generic in the medical insurance system. You won’t make big money.”
Iris had heard enough. She’d wasted too much time. Her gentle voice was firm. “I really don’t plan to partner with any private company. I’m sorry. There’s no room for negotiation.”
Frederick’s authority was challenged. His face turned black with anger, his veins popping. He stood up suddenly, slamming the cup in his hand onto the floor.
