“You? Make me lose control?” Julian scoffed.

Selena picked up on the disdain in his voice, anger edging her tone. “What’s wrong with me? Three years ago, we met overseas. I was just a waitress at a restaurant back then. You fell for me the second you laid eyes on me. You even took me to the entertainment company under Everhart Group, gave me the best resources, and built my career from the ground up. Wasn’t that love?”
Julian’s eyes darkened instantly. He said nothing.
“Ever since you married Iris, you’ve been sleeping in separate rooms. You don’t love her. You’re just using her as my replacement.”
Julian snapped, “Who told you that?”
Selena hesitated. She’d promised Lily she wouldn’t sell her out. If she made the wrong move, Lily was her last safety net.
“I just put two and two together.”
Julian listened, his face stormy. He pulled a document out of his drawer and slammed it down in front of her. “Open it.”
Selena frowned, picked it up, and flipped it open.
When she finished reading, her face went pale. She looked shocked and confused. “You’re a grown man. You actually went to a forensic hospital for a physical?”
“I always cover my bases. If I’d slept with someone, HIV prevention, STD tests, hygiene checks-all of that is non-negotiable.”
Selena felt totally humiliated. She threw the report aside angrily. “Julian, are you out of your mind?”
Julian stood up, walked over to her, and leaned against the desk with his hands in his pockets. He glanced at her, his tone dripping with mockery. “I fell for you at first sight? You’re way too conceited. I thought you looked familiar, that’s all. I made you famous because of your face and the money you could bring the company.”
Selena’s face flushed red, then turned pale. Her fists clenched so tight they shook, and tears pricked her
eyes.
Julian grabbed another document and handed it to her
Selena took it, and the second she opened it, she felt like she’d been hit by a truck. Her blood ran cold. She stared at him, her eyes shaking. “What’s this?”
Julian replied coldly, “A termination contract. It’s pretty simple to understand.”
Selena tilted her head back, taking a deep breath to hold back tears. Her heart felt shattered. “Your physical already proved we’re innocent. Why are you firing me? Is it because of Iris?”
Julian stayed quiet, his face still dark.
“I’m her older sister,” Selena guessed, like it was common sense. “She can’t want her own sister to lose all her resources and see her career crash and burn, right?”

Julian scoffed. “When you tried to go after her husband, did you stop to think she’s your little sister?”
Selena gripped the contract tight, forcing down her anger and bitterness. “We met first. Why marry her- someone you met on a blind date and only knew for three months-instead of me?”
“I don’t owe you any explanation.” Julian walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, staring down at the busy, lively city. His back looked cold and distant. His powerful aura filled the office, a silent pressure weighing on everything. He snapped, “Sign it and get out. Before I run you for good.”
Regret washed over Selena.
She’d always thought Julian’s care and favor were love.
She saw his wife looked just like her, and Lily told her Julian didn’t love Iris. That made her even more certain he loved her.
How stupid she’d been.
If she didn’t want to get blacklisted forever, she had to sign the contract.
She didn’t hesitate anymore. She picked up the pen, signed her name, slammed the document on the desk, and stormed out of the office with a stone-cold face.

Over at the research institute…
Iris was feeding the animals.
Zoe walked over to her, her voice soft. “Iris, you
holding up okay?”
Iris was still down, but she was better than the day before.
“I’m fine,” she answered, trying to sound confident.
Zoe held up the bowl in her hand, sighing. “If you’re fine, why’d you put the lab mice’s food in the monkey’s bowl?”
Iris turned around, her shoulders slumping. She sighed, her face dropping. “Sorry, Zoe. I messed up again.” She’d already tried sticking to simple tasks, just to avoid making mistakes that could cause irreversible damage.
All this food had medication in it. Messing up would ruin the experiment data.
Zoe looked at her with sympathy, set the bowl down, and spoke gently but firmly. “Iris, take a couple days off. You’re human, not a machine. You can’t keep working like this-especially with everything you’re going through. You’re not thinking straight.”
