Julian stood rigid, his fists clamping down slowly. He stared at Iris’s cold back, his lifeless eyes growing misty. The haze built up, and his eyes suddenly flushed red.
He stepped forward and flipped off the lights.
The living room went pitch-black. Iris jumped, her hand freezing halfway to the doorknob. She spun around to look.
A dark figure charged at her, grabbed her arm, and pressed her hard against the door.
“Ah!” Iris yelped. Her phone and bag dropped to the floor. Her body went stiff, pressed tight against the door, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
“Iris, I’ll never agree to a divorce. Just drop it.”
Julian’s hoarse, shaky voice came from above her, mixed with heavy breaths-hot, burning, fanning her forehead.

He leaned down, his face right up to hers. His big hand squeezed her arm so tight it throbbed. In the dark, his vibe felt even more dangerous, like a wave of heat closing in on her.
His voice sounded off. Iris looked up, trying to make out his eyes.
In the pitch black, she could only see his sharp outline. Nothing more.
It was like he didn’t want her to see his face.
“I was drunk last night, but I wasn’t out cold. I know if I cheated or not.” Julian spoke slowly, each word hard and cold. His breath was thick and hot, his voice extra hoarse. “I knew you wouldn’t buy it, so I got a physical. You study pharmacology; you can read the report.”
Iris was still in a fog when Julian suddenly stuffed a document into her hand.
She held the paper, her mind all jumbled. “Julian, I really…”
Julian cut her off, anger creeping into his tone. “Iris, thats it.”
Iris jumped, frozen in her tracks.
She stared at the man in the dark. He was so close, his breath so hot, but she couldn’t see a single expression on his face.
“That’s it.” His voice dropped deeper, like he was worn out. He said it again, then slowly let go of her and walked to his room.
He went inside and shut the door.
He didn’t turn on the light. He walked straight to the bee and sat down. Bright moonlight spilled onto the balcony, casting a hazy, dim glow over the room.
He hunched over, elbows on his knees, palms pressed to his forehead. His broad shoulders looked like they were carrying a ton of weight, so heavy they might give out.

After a long while, he fell back onto the bed, covering his eyes with one arm, as if trying to hold back some secret feeling. With the other hand, he squeezed the sheets so hard his arm muscles bulged, like he was fighting to keep from blowing up.
In the dark room, a gloomy, cold vibe settled over everything.

Iris went back to her room, turned on the light, and set her bag and phone on the desk. She sat on the bed. staring at the report Julian had given her.
Her heart was already cold, but she still hoped it was all a misunderstanding.
She opened the document. It was an official forensic report-the most trusted kind.
Forensic docs usually work on dead people.
But they also do physicals for women who’ve been attacked.
The content was simple: a full male physical.
The report said there were no condom traces on his body, no DNA from anyone else, and no weird changes in semen production.
Along with the official report, there was a screenshot of data from Julian’s fitness watch.
His heart rate and sleep stats were normal.
The screenshot was from last night. His heart rate stayed around 70 the whole night; his sleep was deep and steady, with normal light sleep cycles. He never woke up. No sign of any physical activity at all.
Iris stared at the reports, her eyes watering again. Her heart felt a little lighter, if only a bit.
So not everything Selena said was true.
But so what if he didn’t cheat this time?
He wasn’t being faithful for her.
He didn’t touch other women, but he didn’t touch his own wife either.
Wasn’t that just another kind of joke?
Iris closed the reports, walked out of her room, and set them on the coffee table.
She wiped her tears, glanced at Julian’s door, and silently said goodbye in her heart. Letting go of this love would take time.
She was so tired. Leaving was just a matter of time.
All she had to do was let him go.
