A metal security bar covered the window. The opening was so narrow that Agnes could barely fit her hand through.

He pushed Agnes all the way inside and slammed the door shut, locking it from the outside.

Hours crawled by. It was deep into the night before the door banged open again. The fat slob threw in a filthy tray and locked the door again.

Agnes crept over to the tray. The lump on it looked disgusting and filled the room with a nauseating stench. She gagged and threw up right where she stood.

Was this even food for humans? She kicked the tray away, slid down the wall, and sobbed until she couldn’t breathe. Despair swallowed her whole.

Why was this happening to her? Why did her luck always run dry? She never should have come here.

Her heart was numb. She thought about her mother, about Raymond. She never should have ignored his warnings.

Agnes couldn’t sleep all night. She kept her eyes on the door, terrified and wide awake.

Every minute of darkness dragged on forever. Every second chewed away at her hope.

He kept her locked up for days. The fat slob only brought food once a day, always the same disgusting, black slop.

Agnes got weaker and more desperate. She listened to the screams outside her door, sure her turn would

come soon.

She realized that if this went on, she’d end up like the other girlshelpless and destroyed.

She refused to give up. If she stalled long enough, maybe Rebecca would send someone to find her.

She braced herself for the worst. Besides Rebecca and Sabrina, there was nothing left to hold her here.

mind.

Still, Raymond’s face wouldn’t leave I

No, she told herself, shaking her head. That man only cared about Hillary.

She wondered if Raymond would

en bother to keep looking for her.

Agnes closed her eyes. She wouldn’t fall apart. She wasn’t dying here. She was getting out. She would see Grandridge again.

If the universe wouldn’t help her, she’d make her own fate.

Forget bad luck. Forget every setback. Agnes was furious

She wiped her tears, grabbed the tray, and forced the revolting food down.

She gagged again and again, but she made herself eat every last bite.

Chapter 129 Dark Room

Every day, she sat by the door, listening for footsteps, learning the patterns of the house.

She couldn’t tell how many rooms there were. Every room held a girl.

They brought in new girls all day, every day. The monsters outside never stopped.

The girls who obeyed got food. The girls who fought go beaten, drugged, and tortured until they gave up.

Agnes was terrified. She hid the pills she’d found, clinging to them like a lifeline, never knowing when she’d

be next.

Across nations, in a private suite at an upscale Grandridge restaurant, three women in designer dresses sat together, clinking glasses in a private toast.

To finally get rid of that menace. Cheers!

That’s right. We owe it all to Ms. Foster! If not for her, we never could have taken down that vicious woman. Here’s to you, Ms. Foster.”

To Ms. Foster, and to the three of us!

Hillary, Ursa, and Rebecca beamed as they raised their glasses, faces lit up with glee, as if they’d just conquered the world.

Ursa let out a sigh. We’ve all suffered because of Agnes. She wrecked every part of our lives. At last, justice is served. Everything’s going to turn around for us now.

Hillary grinned. Absolutely. I used every connection my father has to pull this off. I even called in favors out of state. Agnes is never coming back. Not even Raymond could pull off a rescue. She’s finished.
