Chapter 13 Slap, Slap, Slap!

Kame

Evidence? When you came today. I heard Megan tell you that some wild mountain walnut powder had just arrived at home.

She asked if you wanted some. You told her to pack it up and said you’d take it home and eat it slowly. Right, Megan?

Megan froze when Ursa suddenly called her out. She stammered, unsure what to say.

Megan, cat got your tongue? Speak up!Ursa glared fiercely.

Yes, Ms. Ursabut Mrs. Newton isn’t that kind of person. She wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Ursa snapped, How do you know that?! Megan, you never really know people. She’s a master at playing innocent and pitiful! Otherwise, how did Raymond fall for her back then?!

Agnes’s face burned red from Ursa’s words. Everyone else went silent, quietly watching this highsociety scandal unfold.

LA

Everyone in Grandridge knew Raymond was married, but his heart belonged elsewhere.

Almost everyone knew that Hillary was the one he truly cared about.

Only the Newton elders backed Agnes, refusing to ever accept Hillary into the family.

Just then, a few people walked in. One of them carried Ágnes’s bag.

He handed it to Ursa. She opened it in front of everyone, and sure enough, inside was a tightly sealed pack of walnut powder.

Ms. Ursa, I packed that myself, sealed tight. See? Mrs. Newton hasn’t even opened it yet.

Megan tried to defend Agnes, but Ursa shouted, Megan, shut up!

Then she turned to Agnes. Agnes, what do you have to say for yourself?

I didn’t do it. I’m not the only one in this house who could have touched the walnut powder. I had no reason to hurt Hillary.

Agnes’s defense sounded weak. The powder was indeed packed by Megan today, but she had no idea how deep this trap really went,

Hillary, in Raymond’s arms, had red, tearfilled eyes. Her voice quivered as she spoke, Agnes, I know you’re mad at me. Raymond came to Ursa’s birthday with me today, but I really didn’t mean anything by it

Ursa’s my friend. I couldn’t say no when she invited me.

I know you hate me. I shouldn’t have come. I should have stayed abroad. I’m sorryit’s all

my

fault.

Everyone, the walnut powder has nothing to do with Agnes. My body is sensitive. I must’ve picked it up

Chapter 12

Slap Clap!

Sumewhere else.

Don’t blame her. Let’s call it a day.

Hillary! You’re still defending her? She almost had you killed just now!Ursa shouted in frustration.

Ursa, it’s not Agnes’s fault, It’s mine for mining everyone’s fun.

Hillary tried to hold back tears, but her glistening eyes betrayed her. Everyone watching felt sorry for her.

Raymond held her tightly, not saying a word the entire time.

He glanced at Agnes with a complex expression, clearly suspecting her.

Wow, the Newtons’s daughterinlaw is ruthless. She’d do something that could get someone killed- unbelievable.”

Yeahlook at Ms. Young, pleading for her. I heard Mr. Newton and his wife have a purely formal marriage. Didn’t Ms. Ursa just say she spent three years alone? He’s always been thinking about Ms. Young.

What the heckI kinda feel sorry for Mrs. Newton. What’s she even after?

Money, obviously! Are you dumb? The Newtons have enough cash to live luxuriously for generations. If it were me, I’d stay in an empty house my whole life!

Ursa’s face twisted into a small, satisfied smile as she listened.

Happy now, Agnes? Everyone’s upset because of you! Even Hillary is defending you!

She stormed up to Agnes, her eyes like knives.

Why should I be happy? You all are the ones enjoying this, aren’t you? Who’s to say you didn’t plan this together to frame me?Agnes snapped.

SLAP!

Agnes wasn’t readyshe felt a sharp slap across her face,

Agnes! You’ve gone too far! Hillary almost got killed, and you still have the nerve to talk back?
