Chapter 14 The Witness Speaks

Now Agnes had finally taught Ursa a lesson, and that jerk Raymond actually stood up to stop it. What a joke.

“You dared to hit me?!”

Ursa had been stunned by the slap. In the past, Agnes had always been obedient in the Newtons, doing whatever she was told. Whenever someone criticized her, she never talked back. So what was wrong with her today? Not only had she talked back, she had even hit someone.

Only then did Ursa react. She rushed forward to grab Agnes, but Raymond stepped between them and blocked her.

“If you keep making a scene, I’ll cancel every single one of your credit cards!”

Raymond’s face darkened with anger. Ursa shuddered. When she heard that her cards would be canceled, she finally stopped.

“Raymond, you’re still protecting her? That woman is vicious. Just divorce her already. Don’t keep Hillary waiting any longer!”

“My business is none of yours. Don’t say something that ridiculous again.”

Hillary, who had been sitting nearby, suddenly felt her heart sink. Raymond didn’t want a divorce?

He had been so determined to defend Agnes today. Everyone had seen it. Wasn’t that basically announcing his position to everyone?

“What’s going on? What happened?”

Everyone turned toward the voice. Joseph walked over while pushing Sabrina’s wheelchair. Jillian and her son, Duncan Newton, followed behind them.

Joseph said, “I just took Mom out for a walk in the yard. How did everything turn into such a mess the moment we came back? What happened here?”

Joseph looked at everyone’s strange expressions, completely confused.

“Dad! It was Agnes! Agnes ruined my birthday party and even caused Hillary’s asthma attack. And just now, just now she even hit me! Dad, she’s completely humiliated the entire Newtons!” Ursa cried.

Joseph didn’t comfort Ursa right away. Instead, he glanced at the old butler beside him, Perry Stone. Perry carefully told Joseph everything that had just happened. Joseph frowned as he listened..

Sabrina, sitting behind him, also grew irritated after hearing the story.

“Ursa, you said Agnes did it. Did you actually see her do it? Or did anyone else see it? Just because there was walnut powder in her bag? I have plenty of walnut powder in my room too. Does that mean I did it

with her?” she said.

“Grandina, why are you defending her too? Of course I didn’t mean that. She’s just the most suspicious person here. She’s always had it out for Hillary. I was just standing up for my friend!” Ursa complained.

“Ursa, you’ve been spotted by your mother since you were little. No manners at all. Agnes is your sister–in- law. In the Newtons, Agnes is the only one we recognize. Anyone else with bad intentions should stop dreaming. The Newton house isn’t a place where just any stray cat or dog can walk in,” Sabrina said sternly.

Sabrina deliberately raised her voice, clearly directing those words at Hillary.

Hillary’s face flushed red, then pale. That old witch still had such a sharp tongue even at her age.

“Agnes, tell me the truth. Were you the one who put walnut powder in Ms. Young’s plate?” Joseph said.

“Joseph, I would never do something that disgusting,” Agnes replied calmly.

Joseph nodded slightly. “Since Ms. Young is no longer in danger, perhaps this was just a misunderstanding. Later we’ll review all the security footage in the house and investigate it carefully. We’ll definitely give Ms. Young and everyone else an explanation. Today is my daughter’s birthday. Thank you all for coming. Please continue enjoying the party.”

For the sake of the Newtons‘ reputation, Joseph wanted to temporarily suppress the issue. But Ursa refused to let it go.

“Dad! We can’t just let her off like this! It was her! Kick her out of the Newtons!”

“Ursa, are you not even going to listen to me now?” Joseph said sharply.

Just as the two of them were arguing, a voice came from the crowd. “I saw someone put something in the plate.”

The crowd erupted in surprise and all turned to look at the speaker.

A little boy stepped into the center of the crowd. His childish voice sounded again.

“I saw it! It was her! She secretly put something into the plate just now.”

Agnes finally realized it was the little boy who had fallen earlier, the one named Andrew.

He pointed directly at Ursa and continued, “It was that lady!”

“Who are you, kid?! You little brat. If you keep talking nonsense, I’ll rip your mouth apart!” Ursa snapped.

Ursa’s face turned pale with anger as she tried to defend herself.

“How could it be me? Hillary is my best friend. Why would I hurt her? And today is my birthday. Why would I ruin my own party? Do you think I’m crazy? Don’t listen to this kid’s nonsense. Agnes must have told him to say that!”

Andrew pouted and frowned with his little brows.
