“Nadia, not only were you pretty close with Polly, but you also seem very familiar with George from Verdant Bloom.”

“But I didn’t mean to. Polly invited me out that day, and she didn’t tell me beforehand that George would be there too.”

Nadia paused, hesitating,

“When I got there, they were already sitting together.

“What they wanted was to convince me to jump ship to Verdant Bloom. Polly had already worked things out with George.

“She was planning to leave Tidewhisper Lily and join them.

Nadia said, “It’s okay, Agnes. This is partly my fault for not telling you and causing this misunderstanding.

“After all, with what Polly and George did to you and Tidewhisper Lily, it’s only natural you’d suspect me.”

Agnes said, “I’ve been pretty stressed lately because of everything going on with Tidewhisper Lily.

“And Polly leaving so suddenly… I guess I didn’t take it well.”

Nadia immediately moved closer, patting Agnes’s back as she comforted her, “I understand. I feel awful too. Everyone does.
