Agnes' Awakening: From Zero to His Whole World novel Chapter 280

Both of the children took after their mother. Whether it was their looks or their figures, they could outshine most celebrities.

Agnes looked at Raymond, confused.

"Do the Shaws have some kind of history with the Hales? Why would they short Hale Enterprise stock?"

Raymond frowned slightly.

"That's what doesn't add up. From what I know, the Shaws have no business ties with the Hales.

"I don't know why they made a move like this out of nowhere. But don't worry. I'll get to the bottom of it."

His tone softened as he added, "Agnes, stay in for the next few days and get some rest. I'll stay here with you."

Only then did Agnes realize she was still holding onto him.

His face was so close she could feel his breath.

She quickly let go, her cheeks warming.

"You don't have to stay here for me. I'll be fine after a few days."

But Raymond didn't let go. He pulled her back into his arms and buried his face against her neck, his voice low and rough.

"Every time I think you're in danger, I lose it.

"I wish I could be there instantly and take all of it for you.

"I know you're still pushing me away, keeping everything to yourself, not letting me help..."

His voice tightened as his arms wrapped around her more firmly.

"But I can't control it.

"Every day, every moment, I just want to be near you.

"Agnes, forgive me for being selfish."

Agnes lowered her gaze slightly, something soft stirring in her chest.

She pressed her lips together and said nothing, but for once, she didn't push him away.

After Raymond left the room, Agnes lay awake staring at the ceiling all night.

She didn't dare turn off the lights. Every time she closed her eyes, the rooftop scene came back to her.

There were too many things she couldn't make sense of. She had tried to live her life quietly, yet trouble kept finding her.

At dawn, a knock came at the door.

She got up and opened it. Raymond stood outside.

He looked down at her, frowning slightly. "Those are some seriously dark circles. Didn't sleep?"

"Couldn't," Agnes said.

"Get changed. Have breakfast. I'm taking you to see someone."

"Who?"

Raymond nudged her back into the room and, before closing the door, said lightly, "You'll see when we get there. Hurry. I'll wait downstairs."

After getting dressed and eating, Agnes followed Raymond to an impressive building.
