Felix spoke with confidence. But Raymond shot him a cold glare. Felix shut his mouth at once,

Raymond said nothing. He poured himself another drink and swallowed it in one go. Then he thought

about that summer.

It was the summer of his sophomore year in college.

Raymond had just finished studying in the library and was heading home. The school library was on the third floor of an academic building. The stairs from the second floor down to the first floor were open. If you stood on the second floor and looked up, you could see the whole stairwell.

That day, Raymond walked down from the second floor like usual.

Suddenly, a strong force slammed into him from behind. His whole body spun. His head went dizzy. Sharp pain shot through him as he tumbled down the stairs. In his blurry vision, he felt like he was rolling over and over.

He thought he saw another person falling down the stairs with him.

That person screamed. It sounded like a girl.

Then everything went black.

When Raymond woke up again, he was already in the hospital.

Judy told him what happened. An old air–conditioning unit outside the library building had broken loose from its rusted metal frame. The whole thing fell just as Raymond walked past the stairs.

A girl had noticed the shaky metal frame first. Without thinking about her own safety, she rushed forward and pushed Raymond out of the way. That saved him.

But she wasn’t so lucky. One corner of the falling unit hit her head. She got a concussion.

That girl was Hillary.

After Raymond left the hospital, he took special care of her.

During that time, Hillary had several seizures. Her heart often felt uncomfortable too. Her body became much weaker than before.

The doctor said it was likely a long–term effect from the head injury.

Hillary often joked about it. “With this weak body. I guess no one will ever want me in the future.”

Raymond held her hand and promised her something. “No matter what happens between us in the future, I’ll always take care of you.”

Back in college, Raymond was famous on campus. He was six feet three inches tall. He had a handsome

Later, people often saw a girl by his side. That girl was Hillary. At first, people guessed about their relationship. Then they doubted it. Later, everyone started hoping they would become a couple.

Soon, a sweet campus love story spread all over the university.

But just before graduation, something strange happened. Hillary fuddenly broke up with Raymond. Then she left the country. After that, no one heard from her again.

Until one year after Raymond married Agnes. Then Hillary suddenly came back into his life.

Raymond drank the whole night. He barely spoke. No one could stop him.

When he thought about Agnes and Neal together, he almost lost his mind. He also couldn’t forget the way Agnes looked at him. That hateful look. It drove him crazy.

A young model with little fame suddenly walked over and sat beside him. She believed her charm could win him over.

Even if she didn’t become his girlfriend, being his mistress would still change her life. She could live in luxury forever.

She picked up a glass and leaned softly against Raymond.

“Mr. Newton, let me drink with you. Cheers.”

Raymond didn’t react. So, she drank her own glass first. Then she grabbed the glass in his hand and finished it too.

“You like drinking that much?” he asked.

The model became excited when he spoke to her. She pushed out her chest proudly and tried to lean into

him.

Raymond moved away in disgust. She missed him and almost fell forward. Her smile turned awkward, bu she forced herself to stay calm.

“I can drink with you,” she said sweetly. “As much as you want. For as long as you want. You can ask me to
