Vivian wanted to chase after Neal, but the diving instructor dragged her toward the surface by force, ending the dive early.
Neal searched the seabed like a madman for any sign of Agnes.
After a long time, he finally saw a dark shape.
Trusting his instinct, he swam toward that shadow as fast as he could. Sure enough, it was Agnes.
She had already passed out, and at some point, the regulator had slipped from her mouth.
Neal yanked off his own regulator and put it into Agnes's mouth, then quickly dragged her toward the surface.
By the time they broke the surface, the shore was already packed with people.
Carmen waited anxiously on the shore. The second she heard something had gone wrong with the dive, she rushed over.
At first, when she heard it was Vivian's regulator that had malfunctioned, she'd even let out a breath.
She thought Agnes was still down there having fun.
Then, she saw Neal carrying an unconscious Agnes in his arms, panic all over his face as he hurried ashore.
Neal laid Agnes flat on the sand, took off her regulator, and urgently started CPR.
Carmen stumbled over in a panic, with the medics right behind her.
Agnes's face was deathly pale. She wasn't conscious at all.
Carmen kicked Neal aside hard and shouted, "Get the hell away from her!"
Then, she bent over Agnes, gave her rescue breaths, and kept doing CPR without stopping.
Neal's eyes were bloodshot with panic. He reached out to pull Carmen aside and barked,
"Carmen! This isn't the time for your reckless crap! Move! Let me do it!"
Carmen ignored him completely and never paused.
"I'm going to fucking kill you, Neal!!! Get lost!!! Don't you dare come one step closer to her! Get the hell out!!!"
"Damn it, Carmen! Don't make me lay hands on a woman! I'm more qualified than you! Let me do it!"
"Screw you! You piece of trash!!! This is all because of you! Get the fuck away from her!"
Just as Neal and Carmen were shouting so hard they were about to fight, Agnes suddenly coughed hard.
Then, a lot of water came spilling from her mouth, followed by several more coughs.
"Agnes!!!"
"Agnes!!"
Neal and Carmen shouted at almost the same time.
Agnes weakly opened her eyes. Her face, pale just moments ago, slowly started getting some color back.
"My... regulator... had a... problem..."
When Carmen saw that Agnes was conscious and still able to speak, she pulled her into a hug and burst into tears.
"You scared me to death. I was away from you for just a little while, and this happened to you. Sob..."
The medics came over to examine her. Thankfully, she had been brought up in time, so there was no major damage to her lungs.
