"From now on, we're done with dangerous stuff like this. You really scared the hell out of me today!"
Even now, Agnes still felt a chill of fear when she thought back on it.
She had been diving just fine at first. Everything had been going smoothly, and then out of nowhere, she couldn't breathe.
She panicked and fumbled with her regulator and oxygen tank. Maybe she was too nervous, or maybe she just didn't understand the gear well enough.
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't fix it. And right at that moment, all the diving instructors around her had somehow vanished.
She struggled for a long time, her mind growing hazier and hazier, and for one awful moment, she truly thought she was going to die beneath the sea.
Thank God Neal had been there...
At the side, Carmen looked both angry and heartbroken.
"Agnes, stay away from Neal next time! That man is bad luck on two legs!"
Agnes said, "Why do you hate him so much, Carmen? He did save me today..."
Carmen snapped, "Hah. Haven't you noticed? Every time he shows up, something bad happens to you! That man just rubs me the wrong way, no matter how I look at him!"
Agnes honestly thought Neal was pretty innocent in all this.
She didn't know whether Carmen hated him because of her or because Raymond hated him that much.
But both of them were good to her, so... yeah, it was awkward.
Agnes changed the subject and said, "Still, it's strange. My regulator malfunctioned, and I heard Vivian's regulator had the exact same problem, too.
"Where on earth did the event organizers get this diving equipment from..."
Carmen fell into thought, her voice cool and sharp.
"Something about this feels off. Don't tell me this was another dirty trick from Vivian and her little crew.
"If it was, I'll rip her apart myself."
Agnes said, "You rip her apart, I'll break her bones. We make a great team."
Carmen burst out laughing.
She looked straight at Agnes, her gaze sincere, and said, "I'm serious, Agnes. I won't let anyone bully you."
Agnes gently took Carmen's hand and said,
"I know, I know. Carmen, you're the best to me!"
Carmen blinked playfully.
"Good. As long as you know that. I'm way more reliable than those stinking men, hehe!"
"Pfft." Agnes laughed, thoroughly amused.
"Hahaha, what are you even saying?
"Of course, you're better than those stinking men. A million times better! No, wait, even more than that!"
With a trace of coldness in her laugh, Carmen said, "Men—not a single one of them is any good."
Agnes leaned closer, curiosity dancing in her eyes.
"Oh? Carmen... you got your heart broken before??"
Carmen's lips curved into a faint smile.
"Of course not. I'd never give any man a chance. They don't deserve one. Hah!"
She must have given that relationship everything. Had she been let down in the end?
