Agnes' Awakening: From Zero to His Whole World novel Chapter 55

Chapter 55 The Scarred Attacker

Agnes threw herself sideways on pure reflex-but the bat still connected with her shoulder. Hard. “Who are you?! Help! Somebody help me!”

The attacker was dressed head to toe in black, face covered by a ski mask. Only his eyes showed.

Judging by his build, he was big and powerful.

The man gripped the club, advancing on Agnes step by step as she scrambled backward.

He

swung. She dodged. The bat smashed into the glass coffee table, shattering it.

Pinished

In the chaos, Agnes caught a glimpse of his exposed eyes-one had à stitched-up scar at the outer corner.

She backed into a dead end. There was nowhere left to go.

This was it. She was going to die in this apartment. Who was this man? Who had Rebecca pissed off?

He raised the bat again. Agnes squeezed her eyes shut, shielding her head with her arms, waiting for the end of her young life…

A man’s scream ripped through the air.

The blow never landed. Instead, Agnes heard the frantic sounds of a struggle.

Her eyes flew open. A man in a suit was beating the hell out of the intruder.

She blinked, clearing her vision. The man in the suit was… Neal.

What was he doing here? No time to think-Agnes scrambled up to help.

But the physical disparity was too great. She was more of a hindrance than a help; in his effort to shield her, Neal took several heavy hits from the club.

The attacker suddenly pulled a knife from an ankle sheath and lunged at her.

Neal didn’t think. He stepped in front of her, kicked the man away-but the blade caught his arm.

Footsteps echoed from the stairwell. The attacker saw reinforcements incoming and dove out the window.

Neal barked at his arriving security, “He just went out the window. Can’t have gotten far. Go!”

“Yes, sir!”

Neal helped Agnes to her feet. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. Rebecca-

She was back at Rebecca’s side in a heartbeat. “Rebecca! Wake up! Rebecca!”

Chapter 55-The Scarred Attacker

Rebecca’s eyes cracked open. “Agnes… where am I…”

Neal took both of them straight to the hospital.

Florshed

After an examination, the doctor confirmed Rebecca only had minor injuries and a mild concussion. It wasn’t life-threatening.

Afterward, Neal personally escorted them home and stationed guards around the property.

“Don’t worry. My people are outside. They’ll keep you safe. Call them if anything comes up.”

Agnes looked at him, grateful. “Thank you. If you hadn’t been there… Mr. Ruell, how did you happen to be in the area?”

Neal replied, “There’s a hotel near Rebecca’s place. I had a business dinner tonight. I was heading back when I spotted you across the street.

“I was going to say hello, but you walked so fast you were already going up the stairs. I figured I shouldn’t. intrude.

“I was about to leave when I heard you scream. I ran up and saw someone attacking you.

“Ms. Sinclair… have you made enemies?”

Agnes’s brain was still fuzzy. She turned to Rebecca.

“Rebecca, what happened tonight? Do you know who attacked you?”

Rebecca rubbed her head, wincing, thinking hard.

“He was wearing a mask-I never saw his face. And I haven’t pissed anyone off recently.”

“Maybe it was a burglary? But why me? I don’t even have money!”

Then, something came back to her.

“When I got home, the place was already trashed. I thought-great, I’ve been robbed. I was about to call the police when something hit me on the head, and I blacked out.

Γ

“But I think I heard voices-something like, ‘You sure this is the right girl? Yeah, been tailing her for days. Hurry up and find it!’
