The night is quiet. Not the tense quiet that comes before war, not the brittle silence of grief but a living stillness, deep and steady, like the world has finally exhaled.
It has been a month since the battle. A month since blood stained this land. A month since Kaden fell. A month since I learned the truth and saved my sister.
It’s been peaceful to say the least, almost as if finally, the whole world has relaxed. Like the death of Kaden finally brought peace that hasn’t been felt in a long time.
Honestly, I’ve loved it this past month. Finally, the burden that was weighing me down has been lifted, and for the first time since my life went to shit centuries ago, I can finally breathe.
Tonight, the moon hangs full and low in the sky, as if it has been waiting for this moment.
I stand barefoot at the center of the clearing, the sacred circle etched into the earth glowing faintly beneath my feet. Ancient runes pulse with soft silver light, responding to my presence like a heartbeat answering another. The air hums not with danger but with recognition.
In all honesty, I never thought I would accept this. I never imagined I’d willingly take the title. Never believed I would want it... But now I understand. There is a reason I was born the eldest twin. A reason I was chosen to walk the path our mother once did.
I didn’t see it back then, when I tried to give my place to Xena, when I believed she would be stronger, better suited, and more deserving. I thought stepping aside was kindness. I thought refusing the crown was freedom. I was wrong.
This was never about power, or sacrifice, or destiny forcing my hand. It was always about what is right. What was already written in stone.
This is my birthright, and I was always meant to rule.
Alec stands to my right, his hand warm and steady in mine. Aspen is perched proudly in his arms, green eyes wide with wonder as she stares up at the moon like it might speak directly to her. She wears a small circlet of woven moonflowers, her fingers clutching Alec’s collar as if anchoring herself to this moment.
I can’t help but smile. This is my family and finally we are whole.
Around us, our friends and both packs gather… After all, it’s not every day you get to witness the new moon goddess ascend.
King stands tall, hands clasped behind his back, pride etched into every line of his face like a proud father. Raven’s eyes shine with unshed tears. Micah gives me a soft nod, the kind that says "you did it." Jason stands quietly beside Piper, who presses a hand over her heart as if she feels the magic as deeply as I do.
And then there is my mother, soon to be ‘former moon goddess.’
