Lucas Lloyd waited until the terrifying woman was truly gone before he dared to move. He shoved Celine aside with frantic desperation, his hands trembling as he reached for the bleeding man on the floor.
“Hugh! Hugh, can you hear me?” Lucas dropped to his knees, his face pale with panic.
The force of his shove sent Celine stumbling backward. Her hip collided painfully with the edge of the heavy black granite table Griffin had kicked over earlier. She hissed in pain, gripping the cold stone to steady herself. She lowered her head, letting her blonde hair fall forward to hide the contempt burning in her blue eyes.
She had expected Amelia to be dragged out of here tonight. She expected blood, broken bones, and
humiliation for the true–born daughter. Instead, she was surrounded by a room full of useless males.
Even Griffin Drake, the heir to the Drake Pack, the man she had idolized as a top–tier Alpha, was nothing
more than a powerless spectator. This was his territory. Yet he had let Amelia stomp all over his
reputation and walk out untouched.
Hugh curled on the alcohol–soaked carpet, clutching his shattered skull. Blood seeped through his fingers,
dark and sticky against his pale skin.
*Help me…” Hugh wailed, his voice a pathetic gurgle of pain. “Stop the bleeding! Call someone! I don’t want
to die!”
Lucas scrambled up and mashed his palm against the service bell on the wall. He pressed it again and
again, his breathing ragged.
Silence.
The intercom remained dead. The corridor outside was quiet. The blackout had thrown the entire staff of
Night City into chaos. No one was coming.
Celine took a deep breath. She smoothed her expression into a mask of perfect, fragile concern.
“Lucas, the bell won’t work,” she said, her voice trembling just the right amount to sound helpless. “You need to call an ambulance directly. If we wait any longer, Hugh might actually die from blood loss.”
Lucas fumbled for his phone, his hands shaking so hard he nearly dropped it on the wet floor.
On the other side of the room, Jade York stood up. She looked down at her half–brother writhing on the floor. Her expression was devoid of warmth. There was no pity for the blood they shared, only a cold,
detached observation.
She didn’t say a word. She simply picked up her clutch from the sofa and walked toward the door.

“Jade?” Lucas called out, bewildered, phone pressed to his ear. “Where are you going? He’s your brother!”
Jade didn’t even pause. She stepped over the mess of broken glass and wine, disappearing into the hallway without a backward glance.
Celine watched the door swing shut. She looked back at the panicked men running around like headless chickens. A deep, twisting sneer formed in her heart. These were the scions of the great families? They were pathetic. She tightened her grip on the table edge until her knuckles turned white. Weakness was a
sin. She needed power. She needed to be the one holding the bottle.
Outside, the night air was crisp. A sleek black sedan was parked in the deep shadows across the street from the Night City entrance.
“Alpha,” Marcus murmured from the driver’s seat, his eyes scanning the street. “She’s coming out.”
Theodore Crimson had been leaning back against the leather seat, his eyes closed. At his Beta’s words, he sat up sharply. His golden eyes fixed on the entrance.
Amelia emerged. She was unharmed. Her stride was steady, her head held high.
The tension that had coiled in Theodore’s chest finally unspooled. He trusted her strength, but the instinct
to protect his mate was a roaring fire he could never fully extinguish.
Moonlight seemed to cling to her. It wove around her figure like silver silk. As she glanced toward the shadows where he waited, her eyes flashed with a wild, golden luminescence. She looked like a queen of
the night. A true Alpha female walking through her domain, guided by the stars themselves.
*She is our pride,* Logan growled in Theodore’s mind. The massive black wolf paced within him, radiating
possessive delight. *She is our Queen. Those fools inside do not deserve to look upon her light.*
Theodore silently agreed. He watched her until she turned the corner and vanished into the darkness of
the city. He remained silent for a long moment, savoring the image of her triumph.
“Let’s go,” Theodore said quietly. “Back to the Crimson estate.”
Marcus nodded and started the engine. The car slipped away into the night.
The atmosphere in the central control room of Night City was suffocating. The air smelled of ozone and
fear.
The manager wiped sweat from his forehead with a trembling hand. He stood before Griffin Drake, terrified
to deliver the news.
“Mr. Drake,” the manager stammered. “We… we found the cause.”
Griffin glared at him from the command chair. “Speak.”
“The bodyguards,” the manager said. “We found tiny bite marks on their ankles. The tox screen shows a
rare paralytic agent. It seems to be from an insect. That’s why they couldn’t move.”
Griffin’s jaw tightened. Bugs. Amelia really did control bugs.

“And the power?” Griffin demanded.
“The main breaker was pulled,” the manager explained. “But the lock… it’s a triple–security system.
Fingerprint, facial recognition, and a rolling code. Someone bypassed it all in seconds.”

The manager swallowed hard. “Sir, unless it was a top–tier military hacking team, no one gets through that door. It’s impossible.”
Griffin’s face turned the color of a thundercloud. A hacking team? Just to rough up Hugh York?
No. This was overkill.
“She didn’t do this for Hugh,” Griffin muttered. “She did this to show me.”
It was a demonstration. She wanted to prove she could walk into his fortress, shut down his defenses, and
leave whenever she pleased. She was humiliating the Drake family.
“What about the cameras?” Griffin barked.
The head of security stepped forward, looking pale. “All feeds cut out exactly one minute before she
arrived. They came back online the second she left the premises.”
Griffin slammed his fist onto the console. Veins popped on his forehead.
He had underestimated her again. Amelia Stone wasn’t just a discarded daughter from the countryside. A
lone wolf didn’t have access to this kind of tech. She didn’t have hackers and biological weapons at her
fingertips.
“She has a backer,” Griffin hissed. “A powerful organization.”
That was the only explanation. That was why she dared to challenge the Drake family in the Northern
Territories.
“Use the family network,” Griffin ordered, his voice cold and deadly. “Dig deeper. I want to know everything
about her time away from the Stone family. Find out who is holding her leash.”
An hour later, Jade York arrived at her private apartment.
She was exhausted, but her adrenaline was still pumping. As she reached for her keys, she noticed a small, velvet box sitting on her doorstep.
She paused. Her instincts screamed caution. She didn’t touch it.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket. The screen flashed a name: Amella.
