Chapter 156: A Lifeline in the Dark
Chapter 156: A Lifeline in the Dark
(Author’s POV)
The PA system for “The Horse Suite” was still booming with static silence after Victor’s blunder. Amelia pressed the button on her console, the green light indicating their microphone was live.
Natasha stared at the console, stunned for a second. Then she saw the encouraging look in Amelia’s eyes.
*“That Victor is barking so loudly,“* Ava scoffed in Amelia’s mind, her tone dripping with disdain. *“Usually, only weak wolves who are bluffing make that much noise.“*
Emboldened by Amelia’s calm presence, Natasha leaned into the microphone. Her voice rang out through the auction hall, clear and biting.
“Victor, you are truly an i***t,” Natasha announced. “You can’t even control a simple microphone button. What gives you the right to talk about family politics or choosing sides?”
The crowd below murmured. Victor’s face in the opposite box turned a shade of purple.
“Shut up, Natasha!” Victor roared back, his own mic still open.
“Theodore may have injured legs,” Natasha continued, her voice rising with confidence. “But his wisdom and strategy as an Alpha are far superior to yours. My cousin’s legs have a hope of healing. But you? Your broken brain is incurable. You are a hopeless fool.”
A ripple of laughter went through the hall. Victor slammed his fist against the glass partition.
“You dare insult me?” Victor bellowed. “I will teach you a lesson you won’t forget!”
Amelia stepped forward, placing a hand on Natasha’s shoulder to calm her. She took over the microphone, her voice cool and composed, yet it carried a crushing weight of authority.
“If
you have the guts, come at me directly,” Amelia said. Her tone was flat, almost bored. “Don’t threaten a young girl.”
“Amelia Stone!” Victor screamed. “Do you think you are special? You are an outsider! You have no right to give orders in the Crimson Moon Pack!”
“I am right here,” Amelia replied coldly. “If you are too scared to accept the challenge, then stop barking like a coward. You aren’t fit to be a male.”

The entire venue fell silent, waiting for Victor’s response. He was shaking with rage but couldn’t find words.

In “The Snake Suite,” Penelope Blackwood swirled the red wine in her glass. She watched the drama unfold with a smirk.
“Do you see that?” Penelope asked her friend. “Amelia Stone is truly extraordinary.”
Her friend nodded, eyes wide. “She just silenced Victor Crimson.”
“No wonder my stupid brother Damien can’t get her out of his head,” Penelope mused. “He is being punished at home, reflecting on his mistakes. But frankly, he deserves it. He needs to wake up.”
She looked through the one–way glass at Amelia’s silhouette.
“Damien is too soft,” Penelope said, taking a sip of wine. “He is indecisive. He could never handle a dominant female Alpha like Amelia. Thinking he can win her back? It is a fool’s dream.”
Meanwhile, in “The Dragon Suite,” Griffin Drake narrowed his eyes. He stared intently at the “Rat Suite.”
His Beta stepped up beside him. “Alpha, the reports just came in. Amelia Stone has completely overturned the hierarchy in the Stone family. And rumors say Gideon Crimson favors her heavily.”
Griffin tapped his fingers on the armrest. “I thought those were just rumors. But seeing her now… she is aggressive.”
“Theodore is weak right now,” the Beta noted.
“He is physically weak,” Griffin corrected. “But if he joins forces with Amelia… that is a dangerous combination. My plan to take power while Theodore is crippled might hit a wall.”
Griffin’s expression turned cold. “Go. Investigate everything about Amelia Stone. I need to know her weaknesses.”

The tension in the room was palpable as the auctioneer stepped onto the stage. The lights dimmed, focusing on the center podium.
“Ladies and gentlemen, let us begin,” the auctioneer said. “Our first item is the ‘Goddess’s

Tear.’ A rare antique moonstone and diamond necklace. It is said to be the final masterpiece of a legendary jeweler.”
A hush fell over the crowd as the necklace was displayed on the screen. It shimmered with a
soft, ethereal light.
In “The Horse Suite,” the woman sitting next to Victor stared at the screen. Her hands were trembling. She looked at Victor, who was still fuming from the argument.
“Victor,” she said softly, her voice shaking.
He glared at her. “What?”
“Let’s make a bet,” she said, clutching her dress. “If you can win this necklace for me, I will be your woman, willingly. I will do whatever you want.”
Victor raised an eyebrow, his interest piqued.
“But,” she added, her heart pounding, “if you fail to buy it, you must let me go. Forever.”
Victor let out a harsh laugh. “That trinket? It’s worth two or three million at most. That is pocket change to me.”
He grabbed her chin roughly. “You have a deal. You aren’t going anywhere.”
The woman forced a smile, but inside, she was praying. She knew Amelia Stone had just humiliated Victor. She was betting her entire life on the hope that Amelia would bid against him just to spite him. It was her only lifeline.
“The bidding starts at five hundred thousand,” the auctioneer announced.
“One million!” Victor shouted immediately into his microphone.
He looked around the hall arrogantly. He wanted to show everyone that he was still powerful, that he had money to burn.
“One million going once,” the auctioneer said.
The woman in the box held her breath. She stared fixedly at the “Rat Suite” across the hall. *Please,* she begged silently. *Please say something.*
But the “Rat Suite” remained silent.
“What is he doing?” Natasha muttered in Amelia’s box. “Throwing money away on a
necklace?”

Amelia just smiled, leaning back in her chair. She didn’t reach for the button.
“One million going twice,” the auctioneer called out.

The woman’s face drained of color. Her hands went cold. It was over. Amelia wasn’t going to
bid.
Victor grinned, seeing the lack of competition. He wrapped his arm around the woman’s waist, pulling her close. His eyes were filled with a disgusting, possessive lust.
“You see, baby?” he whispered into her ear, his hot breath making her flinch. “Tonight, you are mine. Nobody can save you.”
She closed her eyes, tears prickling at the corners. Despair washed over her like a tidal wave. She prepared herself for the nightmare to continue.
The auctioneer raised his gavel. “Sold to the gentleman in The Horse Suite for—”
“Two million.”
The clear, cold voice cut through the air, echoing from the speakers of the “Rat Suite.”
