I opened my eyes weakly. My head throbbed. The air smelled of mold and damp earth. I tried to move, but my limbs felt like lead.
I looked up. A figure stood before me in the dim light.
“Victor?” I rasped.
My cousin let out a cold laugh. He looked down at me with pure mockery in his eyes.
“Still dreaming, Ronan?” Victor asked. “Are you waiting for Theodore to come save you?”
I gritted my teeth. “He will come.”
“Oh, he tried,” Victor said, stepping closer. “He actually sent his top Enforcers to retrieve you. Can you believe that? After all the trouble you caused him. You nearly got him killed, yet he still cares
about his worthless little brother.”
He leaned down, his voice dropping to a whisper.
“But I was faster.”
My blood ran cold. “Where am I?”
“Look around,” Victor said, gesturing to the stone walls. “We are far from home. This is the
Wastelands.”
The Wastelands. The lawless zone outside the pack’s territory. No rules. No protection.
“Why?” I asked.
“You are the bait, little cousin,” Victor explained calmly. “Theodore is smart. He is powerful. But he has a weakness. He protects his own.”
He paced back and forth.
“I can’t touch him in the North,” Victor continued. “But here? In the Wastelands? I am the master. I
I will lure him into this death trap. Once he steps foot here, he doesn’t leave alive.”
“Grandfather will kill you,” I spat.
Victor laughed again. It was a harsh, barking sound.
“Will he?” Victor asked. “When Theodore is dead, I will be the only capable grandson left. Do you

think Alpha King Gideon will execute his new heir for a runt like you? I am valuable to the pack. You
are expendable.”
He turned and walked toward the heavy iron door.
“Get comfortable, Ronan. Your brother will join you in hell soon enough.”
The door slammed shut, plunging me back into darkness.

(Amelia’s POV)
The next morning, the sun was just rising. I sat at the dining table.
On my plate was a rare venison steak. I cut a piece and put it in my mouth. The rich, metallic taste of the blood satisfied my wolf. Ava purred in the back of my mind.
My phone vibrated on the table.
I glanced at the screen. A notification from my offshore account popped up. A massive sum had just been deposited. Valerius Kane had sold the moonlight herb.
I took a sip of black coffee. Another vibration.
It was Natasha. She sent a string of screenshots.
I scrolled through them. She was impersonating me, chatting with Damien.
*Damien: “Amelia, don’t be stubborn. Following me is a long–term investment. When I become Alpha, you will be my Luna.“*
*Natasha (as Amelia): “Is that a promise?“*
*Damien: “Of course. Just be patient.“*
I scoffed. I typed a reply to Natasha.
“6/10. Fail.”
I took another bite of venison.
“You are being too polite,” I texted. “Next time, ask him directly if his father knows he is begging like a dog for attention.”
A moment later, Natasha sent a laughing emoji.
“Understood, Boss,” she replied. “I’ll make him think we are flirting. He won’t know what hit him.”
I put the phone down. Dealing with idiots was exhausting, but at least it was entertaining.

I finished my breakfast and walked out to the backyard.
The morning mist still clung to the ground. The air was fresh and cold.
I headed toward the herb garden. A figure was standing at the entrance.
It was Ethan.
He stood still, his shoulders hunched. His hair was damp with dew. He had been waiting here for a long time.
He heard my footsteps and turned around quickly. His face was pale. There were dark circles
under his eyes.
“Amelia,” he said, his voice hoarse.
He tried to smile, but it looked like a grimace.
“I… I was wondering if there is more land to clear,” he stammered. “Or any other rough work? I can
do it.”
I stopped a few feet away from him. I crossed my arms.
Inside me, Ava let out a low growl of contempt. She enjoyed seeing this arrogant Alpha brought so
low.
“Drop the act, Ethan,” I said coldly.
Ethan flinched.
“You aren’t here because you want to help,” I said. “You are here because you are terrified.”
I stepped closer.
“The poison flared up last night, didn’t it?” I asked. “It must have felt like your insides were melting.” Ethan’s face lost what little color it had left. He didn’t deny it.
“It was… unbearable,” he whispered. “I wanted to die. I thought about ending it right there.”
He looked at me with pleading eyes.
“But I couldn’t die,” he said. “I haven’t made up for what I did to you. I need to fix this.”
“Bullshit,” I said.
I stared him down.

“You are just a coward who is afraid of death,” I stated. “Don’t pretend this is about redemption.”
Ethan lowered his head. He was shaking.
“This is your last chance,” I told him.
He looked up, hope flickering in his eyes.
“Unlock your phone,” I ordered. “Give it to me.”
Ethan looked confused, but he didn’t hesitate. He pulled out his phone, unlocked it, and handed it to me with trembling fingers.
I took it. I scrolled through his contacts until I found the name “Celine“.
I hit the dial button. I put the phone on speaker.
*Ring. Ring.*
“Ethan?” Celine’s voice came through instantly. It was sweet and sugary. “What’s wrong? Why are you calling so early?”
I didn’t say a word. I just held the phone out between us.
Ethan stared at the screen. He looked at me, panic rising in his chest.
I smiled. It wasn’t a nice smile.
“Ethan,” I said, my voice calm and deadly. “You and Celine both have the same poison in your veins.”
I reached into my pocket and pulled out a single small vial. The liquid inside was clear.
“I only have one dose of the antidote,” I said.
Ethan’s eyes widened. He looked from the vial to the phone.
“Now,” I whispered. “You have to choose.”
Celine’s voice came from the phone again, sounding confused. “Ethan? Who is that? Is someone there?”
I locked eyes with my brother.
“Will you cure yourself?” I asked. “Or will you save your precious sister Celine?”
I held the vial up to the light.
“Decide.”
