Celine’s voice came through the phone speaker, loud and clear. She had obviously heard my threat. There was a brief pause, and then her trembling voice filled the room, dripping with touching

“selflessness.”

“Ethan, don’t worry about me,” Celine said, her voice sounding like glass about to shatter. “You are the Alpha. The pack needs you more than it needs me. Your health is more important than anything. Cure yourself first… As for my face, it doesn’t matter. I can’t be a burden to you.”

I rolled my eyes so hard it actually hurt. I didn’t even bother looking at the phone. Instead, I inspected my perfectly manicured nails, looking bored.

Inside my mind, Ava let out a snort of laughter.

“What a performance,” my wolf sneered. “That acting is top–tier. Not giving her an Oscar would be a waste of talent.”

I looked up at Ethan. His face was twisted in conflict.

“Wow,” I said, my tone dripping with mockery. “Your sister is so noble. So full of sacrifice. Isn’t that just the most touching display of sibling love you’ve ever heard?”

Ethan was struggling. I could see the gears turning in his head. He knew Celine was guilt–tripping him, playing on his damn Alpha protective instincts. But it was working. If he chose himself, he would live in the shadow of abandoning his weak, adopted sister forever.

He probably didn’t believe I would actually let him die. After all, I had Stone blood. I was his sister, too. But if he missed this chance for Celine, her face would be ruined forever.

I tapped my fingers on the table.

“Tick–tock, Ethan,” I said sharply. “I don’t have all day to watch you perform this tragic drama of conscience. Do you want the pain, or do you want the ugly scars? Pick your poison–literally.” Ethan took a deep breath. He closed his eyes, his shoulders sagging as he made his choice.

“Celine,” he said to the phone. “I will save you.”

He opened his eyes and looked at me. His gaze held a trace of self–righteous tragedy.

“I choose Celine,” he stated. “As long as you give Celine the antidote, I will make her leave the Pack

I couldn’t help it. I laughed. It was a sound of pure appreciation for his stupidity.

“You chose the pretty face over your own internal organs,” I said, shaking my head. “How…

predictably noble. Remember, Ethan, you bought the ticket. Enjoy the ride.”

Ethan opened his mouth, probably to say he wouldn’t regret it or some other heroic nonsense. I

didn’t care.

“How is Caleb?” I asked suddenly, changing the subject.

Ethan froze. He clearly didn’t expect me to ask about the brother who had tried to kill me.

“He hasn’t woken up,” Ethan answered honestly, looking confused. “His wolf has been silent. He is receiving treatment, but… nothing.”

He paused, a frown creasing his forehead. He remembered the scene in the hospital room.

“What exactly did you do to him that day?” Ethan asked, his voice rising slightly. “The doctors say his vitals are stable, but he is like a vegetable.”

I stepped closer to him. I lowered my voice to a whisper, letting a chilling amusement seep into my

tone.

“You think he is sleeping?” I asked. “Oh, no, Ethan. That is called/Locked–in Syndrome.‘ But I prefer to call it a living hell.”

Ethan stared at me, his expression shifting from confusion to horror.

My eyes flashed with a cold light. I didn’t bore him with medical jargon. I wanted him to understand the cruelty of it.

Ethan flinched. He knew what silver meant to us.

I hung up the phone and rushed to the mirror.

I stared at my red, swollen cheeks. Hope ignited in my eyes. The antidote. Once I had it, my beauty would return. I would be the high–and–mighty Alpha daughter again.

My phone rang. It was my mother, Livia.

“Celine,” Livia said hurriedly. “I have things to handle today. I won’t be back at the Pack House for a while. You go to the hospital and stay with Caleb.”

I adjusted my voice instantly, making it soft and concerned. “Mom, did you find the expert to lift the curse? Is it going well?”

Livia’s voice turned vicious. “Very well. I have contacted a powerful Sorcerer. Once he arrives, I will bring him to the Pack House to treat Alpha Alaric. Then, Amelia, that stray who learned some dark tricks outside, won’t be able to hide anymore! I will expose her true face to everyone!”

A thought struck me. This was the perfect chance to add fuel to the fire.

I lowered my voice, adding a sobbing tremor to it. “Mom… Ethan has been poisoned by Amelia too. It’s some kind of untraceable voodoo. That’s why Ethan has been so subservient to her lately. He doesn’t even dare to fight back.”

Livia exploded. “That damned Mongrel! Not only did she curse her father, but she also poisoned her own brother? When Alpha Alaric wakes up, I will skin her alive and use her pelt as a rug!”

I ended the call with Livia, feeling excellent.

I fixed my clothes and checked my reflection one last time. I needed to get the antidote from Amelia first, then I would go to the hospital to put on a show for Caleb.

I walked down to the main hall.

Ethan was just coming in from the backyard. He looked like a ghost.

I immediately dropped my smile. I put on my mask of guilt and sorrow.

“Where are you going?” Ethan asked, his voice exhausted.

I lowered my head, avoiding his eyes. I lied smoothly.

“Mom told me to go to the hospital to be with Caleb,” I said softly. “I want to see him. I want to talk

to him.”

I didn’t mention the antidote. I had to keep up the image of the selfless sister. I couldn’t let him think I was rushing to save my own face.

Ethan looked at me. His expression was complicated.

“Go,” he said, nodding slowly. “But before you go to the hospital…”

He paused, his voice dropping lower.

“Stop by Amelia’s room. Get the antidote. I already made the deal with her. It’s for you.”

I turned away from him so he couldn’t see my face.

“Okay, Ethan,” I whispered, sounding choked up.

But as I walked away, a cold, triumphant smirk curled on my lips.
