Chapter 170: Settling the Score

Chapter 170: Settling the Score

(Seraphina’s POV)

Oliver?I asked, leaning forward slightly.

+25 Poms

The driver didn’t answer. He turned his head, and the passing streetlight illuminated a profile that was definitely not Oliver’s. It was older, with a bitter set to the jaw.

Recognition hit me instantly. It was Harvey Wright, Adrian’s former butler who had been kicked out of the Pack House for offending Amelia.

Harvey,I said, my voice sharp. What do you think you’re doing?

My heart hammered against my ribs. I slid my hand into my purse, my fingers searching frantically for my phone to call Jaxon.

Suddenly, the car swerved violently. Harvey slammed on the brakes. My purse flew off my lap, and I heard my phone slide across the floorboard, disappearing into the darkness under the front seat.

Harvey turned around, a cruel sneer plastered on his face. Don’t bother, Mrs. Stone. I’ve driven us to the old industrial district. I have a jammer running. No signal gets in or out here.

I looked out the window. It was pitch black outside, save for a flickering streetlight illuminating a desolate, graffiticovered wall.

I took a deep breath, forcing my panic down. I locked eyes with him through the rearview

mirror.

Harvey, you moron,I said coldly. Do you honestly think k********g me gives you leverage? You just signed your own death warrant. My daughter won’t negotiate; she’ll hunt.

Harvey’s face twisted with rage. He pounded the steering wheel with his fist.

That insolent brat!he roared. I want to see her suffer. I want to see her beg!

He turned fully in his seat, his eyes bulging with resentment. I served the Stone family for thirty years! I was loyal to Alpha Adrian and Livia before that little wild animal was even born. And what did I get? Tossed out like garbage because of some backwater pack girl!

I looked at his frantic expression and let out a scoff. It was pathetic.

Money? Or reinstatement? Is that what you think this is about?I asked, my voice calm and

cutting. Adrian didn’t send you here to get your job back. He sent you here to do his dirty work so he can keep his hands clean. You’re not his loyal servant, Harvey. You’re his disposable trash.

Shut up!Harvey screamed, his face turning red. Alpha Adrian promised me! When this is over, I’ll be back in the Pack House. He’ll protect me!

Harvey unbuckled his seatbelt and stormed out of the car. He marched to my door and yanked it open roughly.

Get out!he shouted, reaching for my arm.

I tensed my muscles, preparing to shift. If he touched me, I would tear his throat out right

here.

Just as his hand neared my wrist, a blinding light flooded the alley from behind. High beams cut through the darkness.

Before Harvey could react, a shadow blurred from the darkness. It was fasttoo fast for a werewolf.

*Thwack.*

A boot connected solidly with Harvey’s chest. He flew backward, airborne for a second before slamming into the brick wall with a sickening crunch. He slid to the ground, groaning in pain.

A woman stood over him. She wore black tactical gear, her dark hair pulled back tight, radiating a cold, professional danger.

She turned to me. Mrs. Stone. Are you injured?

I smoothed my skirt and stepped out of the car, regaining my composure. I’m fine.

I’m Sloane, the woman said. Amelia sent me.

I nodded and walked over to where Harvey lay curling in pain. He looked up at me with terror

in his eyes now.

I looked down at him, letting him see the fire in my eyes.

Tell Adrian I’m coming for him,” I said.

At seven o’clock, my phone rang. It was Sloane.

  1. a) 478, Deante

Target secured,” Sloane’s voice was crisp. Your mother is safe and unhurt. The kidnapper is Harvey Wright. We have his confession recorded. He confirmed Alpha Adrian gave the order.

Good,I said.

I didn’t feel relief. I felt a cold, dark rage spreading through my chest, merging with the beast inside me.

*Kill him,* Ava growled in my mind. The image of tearing Adrian’s throat out flashed vividly.

*Patience, Ava,* I whispered back, my internal voice icy. *We don’t just bite his throat. We tear his whole world apart first.*

I hung up and dialed my mother.

Amelia? Her voice was steady, but I could hear the underlying tension.

Mom, I’m so sorry,” I said, gripping the phone tight. I was terrified that cornered beast might try something low, so I had Shadows shadowing you 24/7. I shouldn’t have let you get close to danger.

No need to apologize, Amelia,Seraphina cut me off. Her voice was harder than I’d ever heard it. Tomorrow, we make them pay.

I ended the call and immediately dialed Theodore.

He answered on the first ring. Amelia?

Clear your schedule for tomorrow,I said, my voice leaving no room for argument. We’re going to Stone River. I’m not just asking for your support, Theo. I’m asking you to stand by my side while I burn his legacy to the ground.

Theodore chuckled, a dark, rich sound on the other end of the line. For you? Anything. I’ll be more than happy to watch that sperm donor of yours lose everything.

Good.

I hung up and opened my messaging app. I found Natasha’s contact.

*Amelia: Are you free tomorrow?*

*Natasha: Always! What’s up? Is there tea?*

I typed quickly. *Bring the restless elite, Natasha. They claim they want transparency? I’ll give them a show they’ll never forget.*
