Chapter 172: Just a Warning
Chapter 172: Just a Warning
(Jaxon’s POV)
I stepped through the ruined gateway, the dust settling around my boots. The air was thick with the scent of twisted metal and my own unbridled rage.
Ethan rushed forward from the living room, his face pale. He raised a hand as if to block my path.
“Uncle Jaxon, wait-”
I didn’t slow down. I didn’t even look at him. I walked right past him as if he were nothing more than a stone on the roadside. My Alpha aura slammed into him, pushing him back against the wall without me lifting a finger.
Adrian descended the stairs. He stood tall, puffing out his chest in a pathetic attempt to muster his own Alpha dignity. He tried to meet my gaze, but I saw the flicker of fear in his eyes. He could feel the palpable fury rolling off me in waves.
“Jaxon,” Adrian barked, his voice straining to sound authoritative. “What is the meaning of this? Breaking into my home in the middle of the night—”
Livia stood beside him. She had gone completely still. She looked at my face and saw death staring back at her. She clutched his arm, her manicured nails digging deep into the fabric of his suit.
I stopped directly in front of Adrian. The distance between us was suffocating.
“I’m here to tell you what I’m going to do,” I said. My voice was low, cold as Siberian ice.
Before he could blink, my hand moved. A flash of silver cut through the dim light.
I drove the custom–made silver dagger deep into Adrian’s abdomen.

Adrian looked down, his eyes bulging in disbelief. He stared at the hilt protruding from his stomach.
The silver sizzled against his flesh. Smoke rose from the wound, carrying the acrid scent of burning wolfsbane and charred meat.
“Gkhh…” A strangled gurgle escaped his throat. His face turned sheet white instantly.

I ripped the dagger out. Blood sprayed across the expensive carpet, dark and steaming.
Adrian stumbled, his legs giving way. I grabbed him by the collar, hauling him close until our faces were inches apart. I leaned in, whispering like a demon.
“Now do you know why I came?”
Livia finally processed what had happened. She covered her mouth and let out a piercing scream that shattered the silence.
“Adrian!”
Adrian shoved me away with the last of his strength. He clamped his hands over the gushing wound, staggering back against the railing. He looked at me with pure shock. He never believed I would actually break the taboo. He never thought his own brother would use silver
on him.
I flipped the bloody dagger in my hand, watching the red droplets hit the floor. My eyes bore into his.
“Seraphina is missing,” I said, my voice dead calm. “Did you send someone? Remember this, Adrian. If there is even a single scratch on her, I will make you regret being born.”
Adrian gasped for air, sweat pouring down his face. The pain from the silver poison was too intense for him to speak.
“You… you have no proof!” Livia shrieked, trembling as she supported her mate.
Ethan recovered from the shock and roared, trying to charge at me to protect his parents.
“Get back!”
Two of my elite warriors stepped forward instantly, blocking his path like a solid wall of muscle. They didn’t even draw their weapons; their presence was enough.
I looked around the grand hall.
“I know it was you. You know it was you,” I said, my voice echoing off the high ceilings. “This stab? This is just a warning.”
I pointed the bloody blade at Adrian.
“If you dare touch Seraphina again… next time, I won’t use a knife. I will tear you apart with my bare hands.”
I turned on my heel and walked out. I didn’t look back.

Behind me, chaos erupted.
“Get the Pack Healer! Now!” Livia screamed at Ethan. “It’s silver! He’s not clotting! Go!”
I walked out into the cool night air and got into the back of my car. The door slammed shut, sealing out the noise.
I dropped the dagger onto the seat beside me.
My hands started to shake. I leaned forward and buried my face in my palms.
The adrenaline crashed, leaving a cold void in my chest. Fear washed over me. Real, paralyzing fear.
When Amelia called me earlier to tell me Seraphina had been taken, my world had nearly ended. I had been so careless. I had underestimated just how depraved Adrian had become. I never thought he would target my mate.
If Amelia hadn’t been prepared… if she hadn’t arranged for Sloane to be there…
I took a deep, shuddering breath. I forced myself to compose my features. I couldn’t fall apart.
now.
“Drive,” I told the driver. “To the East House. I need to see my daughter.”

(Amelia’s POV)
I sat on the edge of my bed. Green, my snake, was coiled lazily around my arm, flicking his tongue. Black and White were curled up by my feet, their little ears twitching.
In my mind, Ava let out a low, satisfied purr.
*Blood,* she whispered. *Alpha blood.*
We could both smell it. The metallic scent drifted on the wind from the West House. My enhanced senses picked up the vibrations of the chaos–the scream, the crash, the fear.
I didn’t feel afraid. I didn’t feel guilty.
A cold light flickered in my eyes. It was the satisfaction of justice served.
A soft knock sounded at my door.
“Amelia?” It was my father’s voice. Low. Rough.

“Come in,” I said.
I walked over and opened the door, I leaned against the frame, crossing my arms.
Jaxon stood there. He looked composed, but the scent of violence clung to him like a second skin. His eyes were dark pools of turbulence.
I raised an eyebrow.
“You smell like blood, Dad,” I said, a small smirk playing on my lips. “Looks like Adrian had a ‘fun‘ night.”
Jaxon looked at me, and his shoulders finally dropped. The tension leaked out of his frame.
“Your mother is safe, Amelia,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “Tonight… it was all thanks to you.”
I shrugged, feigning indifference.
“I was about to have Silas burn the West House to the ground,” I said casually. “We were going to blame it on faulty wiring. But since you handled it, I won’t bother.”
Jaxon shook his head, a helpless look crossing his face. But his eyes were warm, filled with a fierce, protective love.
“Amelia,” he said softly. “Don’t blame Adrian’s stupidity on yourself. And don’t always think you have to be the executioner.”
He stepped closer and placed a hand on my shoulder.
“Let me do the dirty work,” he said firmly. “I am your father. You just need to be my daughter.”
I looked at him. The ice around my heart melted just a little. It felt… good. To be protected.
I gave him a wicked grin. “Fine. But you should know, I charge extra for being law–abiding.”

Jaxon laughed. It was a short, dry sound, but it was real. He reached out and ruffled my hair, messing up my waves.
He turned to leave, his steps heavy with exhaustion.
“By the way,” I called out.
He stopped.

“That silver dagger?” I said. “Nice touch. I didn’t think you had it in you to actually use it on
him.”
Jaxon looked back over his shoulder. The shadows in the hallway cast his face in stark relief. His eyes flashed with a dark, dangerous resolve. It wasn’t the look of a brother anymore. It was the look of an Alpha.
“I’m an Alpha, Amelia,” he said. “We protect what’s ours. No matter what happens, your mother and I… we always have your back.”
I nodded. “I know.”
I watched him walk down the hall, heading to the master bedroom to wait for Mom.
I gently closed the door, shutting out the world.
Silence returned to the room.
*Ding–dong.*
The doorbell downstairs rang. It was urgent, rapid, tearing through the quiet of the night.
I froze, my hand still on the doorknob. Who would come now?
