Chapter 174: He Won’t Regret It
Chapter 174: He Won’t Regret It
(Amelia’s POV)
Sunlight filtered through the heavy curtains, brightening the room. I stretched and sat up, feeling well–rested.
I walked downstairs, tightening the belt of my silk robe. The house was quiet.
I glanced at the front porch through the window. It was empty. Ethan was gone.
I didn’t care how the foolish Alpha had managed to drag his poisoned body away. He was someone else’s problem now.
I sat at the dining table. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air.
Agnes walked in from the kitchen. Her face was pale, completely devoid of blood. Her hands trembled as she held out a small, exquisite red wooden box.
“Miss Amelia,” she whispered, her voice shaking. “A courier just dropped this off. He said… he said it’s from Alpha Adrian. He insisted it was for your eyes only.”
I raised an eyebrow. I set my coffee cup down with a soft clink.
I took the box. It felt light.
I flipped the latch and lifted the lid.
Inside, resting on black velvet, was a severed finger. It was bloody and jagged at the base. A gold ring sat on the knuckle.
Agnes gasped. She slapped her hands over her mouth to stifle a scream. She swayed, grabbing the back of a chair to keep from fainting.
I didn’t flinch. I leaned in, inspecting the grim object with mild curiosity.
My phone buzzed on the table. The screen flashed ‘Adrian‘.
I picked it up and swiped accept.
“Do you like the gift, daughter?” Adrian’s voice rasped through the speaker. It was weak, but dripping with malicious triumph.
I let out a cold, short laugh.

“Is this yours, Adrian?” I asked, my tone mocking. “The cut isn’t very clean. You really should hire better butchers.”
“Look closer,” Adrian hissed. “That is your precious adoptive mother’s finger. And her ring
I almost laughed out loud.
I looked at the finger again. The knuckle was thick. Coarse dark hair grew near the base. It was undeniably a man’s finger.
And the ring? It was a cheap brass imitation. Seraphina never wore anything that tacky
Adrian hadn’t even checked the box himself. He was desperate, sloppy, and trying to scare me with budget horror props.
I decided to entertain him.
“No!” I shrieked, injecting a tremor of terror into my voice. “What did you do to her? You monster!”
“She’s alive,” Adrian gloated, feeding off my fake fear. “For now. It’s just a finger, Amelia. But heads come off just as easily.”
I picked up a slice of toast and bit into it. The strawberry jam was sweet.
“What do you want?” I yelled into the phone, while chewing calmly. “Tell me! Just don’t hurt
her!”
“You will use your Shadow Healer abilities,” Adrian commanded. “Cure Ethan’s poison. And wake Caleb up. Today.”
He paused to let the threat sink in.
“If you don’t, the next box won’t be so small,” he growled. “And don’t you dare go running to Alpha Alaric. If you do, Seraphina dies.”
The line went dead.
I tossed the phone onto the table. My expression instantly shifted back to boredom.
“It’s fake, Agnes,” I said, taking another bite of toast.
Agnes blinked, tears still in her eyes. “What?”
“That’s a man’s finger,” I pointed with my fork. “Seraphina is with Uncle Jaxon. She’s safer than anyone in this town. Adrian is just a cornered dog barking at shadows.”

Agnes slumped into the chair, letting out a long, shaky breath. “Thank the Moon Goddess.”
I picked up my phone again and typed a message to Theodore.
*Adrian sent a fake finger. I pretended to be terrified. He thinks he has me cornered.*
The reply came almost instantly.
*He is impotently furious.*
I smirked at the screen. Inside me, Ava wagged her tail, a low growl of satisfaction rumbling in my chest.
We were going to enjoy watching him realize he had been played.
(Author’s POV)
The hospital room smelled of antiseptic and dying flowers.
Ethan stood by the bedside, looking down at his comatose brother. His face was grey, sweat beading on his forehead as the poison gnawed at his insides.
Celine sat in the visitor’s chair, looking delicate and worried.
“Father has a plan,” Ethan said, his voice tight with pain. “He found a way to control Amelia. She’s going to cure me.”
He looked at Caleb’s still form.
“And she’s going to wake Caleb up,” Ethan added. “Soon.”
Celine’s eyes widened. A flash of genuine panic crossed her face before she masked it.
“Really?” she asked, her voice high. “That’s… wonderful.”
On the bed, Caleb lay motionless. But inside his mind, he was screaming.
He heard every word.
*Wake me up, his wolf, Noah, howled in the darkness of his mind. *Let me wake up!*
Joy surged through Caleb’s paralyzed consciousness. If Amelia woke him, he could speak. He could tell everyone the truth.
He could tell them that Celine was the one who drove the car. That she was the one who framed him. He would tear her fake mask off in front of the whole pack.
Celine stood up and grabbed Ethan’s arm, feigning excitement.

“Oh, Ethan, I’m so relieved,” she said.

Then, her eyes dropped to the bandage on his forehead. Fresh blood was seeping through the
gauze.
“You’re hurting,” she whispered, tears welling up in her blue eyes. She reached out, her fingers hovering over his wound. “Does it hurt terribly? I wish I could take the pain for you.”
Ethan looked down at her. Her concern seemed so raw, so real.
His heart softened. The contrast was blinding.
Last night, Amelia had stood on her porch, looking at him like he was garbage. She had slammed the door while he writhed in agony.
Amelia was ice. She was a monster with no heart.
But Celine? Celine was warm. She was kind. She was his true sister in every way that mattered.
A memory flickered in Ethan’s hazy mind.
Amelia’s voice, sharp and cold in the night air: *You’ll regret giving that antidote to Celine instead of saving yourself.*
Ethan looked at Celine’s tear–streaked face. He felt the fire burning in his veins, the poison eating him alive.
He gritted his teeth and shook his head slightly.
*Regret it?* he thought bitterly. *Never.*
He had saved the sister who actually loved him. He had saved the gentle, fragile girl who needed him.
“I’m fine, Celine,” Ethan lied, forcing a smile. “As long as you’re safe, the pain doesn’t matter.”
He was the big brother. It was his duty to protect her.
