Chapter 175: Bringing Caleb Home
Chapter 175: Bringing Caleb Home
(Author’s POV)
Caleb lay on the hospital bed. His body was a prison of dead weight, paralyzed from the neck down, but his mind was sharp and screaming. He could see everything. He watched his brother, Ethan, standing by the bedside, fingers hovering over the fresh bandage on his forehead.
“I just bumped it on a doorframe,” Ethan lied, his voice raspy from the poison in his veins.
Celine sat in the visitor’s chair. Immediately, tears welled up in her eyes, spilling over her
cheeks.
“Oh, Ethan,” she sobbed, clutching his hand tightly. “You’re in pain because of the poison, aren’t you? You’re hurting yourself to distract from the agony inside. This is all my fault. If I hadn’t been so weak, Amelia would have saved you yesterday.”
Caleb felt a wave of nausea crash through his mind. He couldn’t believe he used to fall for this act. Her tears were purely for show, a performance designed to manipulate.
Ethan’s expression softened. He bought it completely. He reached out and patted Celine’s
hand.
“Don’t cry,” Ethan said gently. “It’s over. Father has a plan. Amelia is going to treat us today. She’s going to clear the poison and wake Caleb up.”
Celine froze. Her eyes darted around the room, panic flashing behind the tears.
“Really?” she asked, her voice trembling with something that wasn’t relief. “Why did she change her mind so suddenly?”
Ethan didn’t want to mention the severed finger or the blackmail. He wanted to protect his little sister from the harsh reality of their father’s methods.
“Father has his ways,” Ethan said vaguely. “Just pack your things. We are taking Caleb home
now.”
Ethan turned and walked out of the room to handle the discharge papers. The heavy door clicked shut behind him.
Instantly, Celine’s face changed. The sadness vanished like smoke. A cruel sneer replaced the tears. She stood up and loomed over the bed.

“Father must have threatened her,” she whispered, staring into Caleb’s open, unseeing eyes. “Poor Amelia. Forced to try the impossible.”
She leaned closer, her voice dripping with malice.
“I can’t wait to see the look on her face when she realizes she can’t wake you up,” she hissed. “You’re never waking up, Caleb. You’re just a vegetable now.”
Inside his mind, Caleb roared. *Just wait, you witch. Amelia will save me. And then I will destroy you.*

At the Crimson Moon Pack House, Theodore finished typing a message on his phone. He nodded to Marcus. Marcus stepped behind the wheelchair and began to push him toward the
exit.
In the grand foyer, Theron stepped into their path. His face was thunderous.
“Where is Ronan?” Theron demanded, blocking the way. “I cannot reach him. You know something.”
Theodore looked up at his father with cold, eyes.
“I don’t keep track of people who try to murder me,” Theodore said flatly. “If he is missing, perhaps he realized failure has consequences.”
“He is your brother!” Theron shouted, his face reddening. “Your mother would be ashamed of you, leaving him to rot somewhere while you sit here in luxury.”
Theodore’s expression didn’t flicker. He was tired of this man weaponizing the dead.
“I’m not investigating his location, Father,” Theodore said, his voice smooth and dangerous. “I’m investigating his bloodline.”
Theron went rigid. The color drained from his face instantly.
“What are you talking about?” Theron stammered.
“You had one bastard daughter, Isla,” Theodore said ruthlessly. “It stands to reason Ronan might not be a true Crimson either. It would explain why you favor such incompetence. If the DNA test proves he is a bastard, Grandfather Gideon will be very interested.”
Theron opened his mouth, but no sound came out. Terror filled his eyes. He looked like a
cornered animal.
“Move,” Theodore commanded.

Theron stepped aside, trembling visibly. Marcus pushed the wheelchair past him and out to the waiting armored SUV.
As they drove toward the Stone River Pack, Marcus glanced at the rearview mirror.
“Why tell him?” Marcus asked quietly. “You tipped your hand.”
Theodore looked out the window at the passing scenery. “Fear makes prey sloppy. He will make a mistake trying to cover his tracks. I want him panicked.”

An hour later, the black armored SUV pulled into the Stone River estate.
Theodore looked up through the windshield. Amelia was already waiting. She stood at the top of the porch steps, leaning against a stone pillar. Her arms were crossed over her chest. She didn’t come down to greet them. She looked like an executioner waiting for the
condemned to arrive at the scaffold.
Another convoy of cars pulled into the driveway behind Theodore. It was Ethan returning from the hospital.
The doors of the second car opened. Ethan stepped out, looking pale and sick, stumbling slightly. Celine stayed inside the car for a long moment. When she finally emerged, she clutched a heavy veil over her face to hide the rotting skin on her cheek, shrinking back into
the shadows.
Amelia smirked. She caught Theodore’s eye and tilted her head toward the cowering woman
by the car.
“Look at her,” Amelia murmured, her voice low but carrying in the quiet air. “She knows she’s walking into a trap.”
Bodyguards opened the back of the ambulance van. They lifted a heavy stretcher out. Caleb lay on it, motionless as a statue, his eyes taped shut for transport.
Marcus helped Theodore into his wheelchair and pushed him up the ramp to join Amelia on the porch.
Theodore looked down at the unconscious boy being hauled like cargo toward the front door. He glanced at Amelia.
“Looks like they’re confident enough to bring him back before he’s even awake,” Theodore said, a dry smile touching his lips.
Amelia stepped forward. Her eyes lo ed onto the stretcher with intense focus.

“Confidence? No, Theo. That’s desperation,” she said. Her voice dropped to a lethal whisper. “And I’m going to make them pay for every ounce of it.”
