Caleb’s knuckles turned white as he gripped his phone, applying enough pressure to nearly crush the device.

“Derek, listen to me!” he roared into the receiver, his voice trembling with rage. “If you don’t release Ethan right now, I will report you to the Werewolf Council immediately.”

He took a jagged breath, his chest heaving.

“Kidnapping a pack member without cause violates the Wolf Code. Once the Council Enforcers get involved, even the Crimson family won’t be able to protect you!”

A cold, malicious laugh echoed from the other end of the line.

“Is that so?” Derek mocked, his tone dripping with arrogance. “Let’s see who is faster. The Enforcers, or me breaking your brother’s other leg.”

“You dare-”

The line went dead. Only the suffocating beep of the disconnected call remained.

Caleb stood frozen on the sidewalk. Inside him, his wolf, Noah, let out a high–pitched whine of agony. The crushing sense of helplessness was suffocating. He couldn’t protect anyone.

He glanced back at the towering Starlight Entertainment building one last time, despair clouding his vision. He hailed a passing taxi.

“To the Moore Estate,” he ordered hoarsely. He had to seek help from his parents.

Fate, however, was not done toying with him.

As soon as Caleb arrived at the Moore family territory, he didn’t even have time to catch his breath before a shocking scene unfolded.

Several burly bodyguards in black suits were forcibly shoving Celine into a black SUV.

“What are you doing?” Caleb shouted instinctively.

He sprinted forward, his eyes wild. “Where are you taking her?”

Xavier looked at Caleb with cold indifference.

“Stop screaming,” Xavier warned. “Griffin Drake wants her.”

The Drake family hated Amelia with a passion. Taking Celine now wasn’t for a friendly chat. They were going to use her as a pawn to strike at Amelia.

Caleb turned frantically to his mother, Livia, who stood nearby.

“Mom, stop them!” he pleaded. “We can’t let them take her!”

He tried to push past Xavier to save his adopted sister.

But Livia grabbed his arm tightly. Her face was pale, written all over with cowardice and fear.

“Don’t, Caleb!” she cried, her voice trembling. “We can’t afford to offend the Drake Pack right now. They are too powerful.”

The window of the black SUV rolled down slowly.

Celine sat inside, draped in an oversized men’s coat. The fragile, innocent mask she usually wore was gone. In its place was a look of bone–deep resentment.

She stared at Caleb, her eyes burning.

“I won’t forget this,” she hissed through gritted teeth. “I won’t forget how the Stone family treated me.”

“You’re a liar!” Caleb yelled back, anger surging. “Everything happening to you is your own

fault!”

Celine suddenly threw her head back and laughed. It was a manic, broken sound. Tears streamed down her cheeks.

“You’re right,” she admitted, her voice shrill. “I stole Amelia’s life for twenty years. I deserve

this.”

She leaned forward, her gaze piercing.

“But you know what? You people deserve it even more. You ignored your true blood for a fake like me. Now Amelia has stripped you of everything. That is the greatest irony of all.”

The window rolled up. The SUV sped away, leaving a cloud of dust and a heavy silence.

Xavier looked at the mother and son with unconcealed disgust.

“This is the Moore family estate,” he said rudely. “Not a homeless shelter.”

He sneered at Livia.

“Taking in a family banished by Alpha Adrian has already shamed us. Don’t think you’re entitled to anything more.”

Blood boiled in Caleb’s veins. Inside him, Noah roared, wanting to tear this arrogant jerk

apart.

Caleb clenched his fists, forcing himself to suppress the violent impulse.

“We’re leaving tomorrow,” he spat out.

Xavier scoffed and turned to walk back into the house without another word.

Caleb spun around to face Livia.

“Mom, go buy a new villa immediately,” he demanded, his chest heaving. “I won’t stand for this indignity any longer.”

Livia looked away, her expression troubled. She stammered, unable to meet his eyes.

“I… I can’t,” she whispered. “I don’t have the money.”

Caleb stared at her in disbelief. “What? How can we not have cash for a house?”

Livia sighed deeply, her shoulders slumping.

“Stone River Botanicals is in crisis,” she explained weakly. “Alpha Alaric has strictly controlled all family expenses. I only have my personal savings left.”

She paused, a bitter look crossing her face.

“Thank the Moon Goddess Amelia rejected that check earlier. If she had taken it, we would be in an even worse situation now.”

A wave of absurd sorrow washed over Caleb.

“Mom,” he said helplessly. “If she had taken the money, it would have meant she was willing to forgive us. We wouldn’t be standing here like beggars.”

He let out a self–deprecating laugh.

“Listen closely,” Amelia said, her sapphire eyes scanning the room.

“First, I am the new owner.”

“Second, my goal is to make Starlight the premier supernatural entertainment empire in the Northern Territories.”

“Third, if you perform well, your bonuses will be doubled.”

She stood up abruptly. “Meeting adjourned.”

She walked out, leaving a room full of stunned employees. They had never seen a leader so decisive and full of power.

As she stepped out of the conference room, her phone buzzed. It was Silas.

“Miss Stone,” Silas’s voice came through clearly. “Griffin Drake has made his move.”

Amelia listened intently as she walked down the hallway.

“He had his men take Celine,” Silas reported. “And he’s already contacting several smaller entertainment firms. It looks like he’s planning a hostile takeover to surround and crush Starlight.”

In the back of Amelia’s mind, Ava let out a low, dangerous growl. It was the sound of a predator accepting a challenge.

Amelia’s expression hardened.

She hadn’t planned to actively expose the Drake family’s dirty dealings abroad. As long as they stayed in their own lane, she would have ignored them.
