Despair washed over Caleb like a freezing tidal wave, drowning him in misery inside him, hie wolf, Noah, let out a high–pitched whine of agony, crushed by the weight of their guilt Celery looked across the mahogany desk at Amelia, his eyes filled with profound regret and desperation.

“Amelia,” he rasped, his voice trembling. “I promise you, I won’t let Celine live comfortably ever again. I won’t let that hypocritical woman appear before you. She won’t be an eyesore to you anymore.”

Amelia just stared at him, her expression unreadable. Then, she sneered, her lip curling in undisguised disdain.

“You have it wrong,” she said, her voice dripping with ice. “The sickening sight right now isn’t Celine. It’s you and Ethan.”

The words hit Caleb like a physical blow from a sledgehammer. His face drained of all color pale as a sheet, as if she had slapped him across the face with all her strength. He staggered backward, his legs suddenly weak and unsteady.

Noah growled low and painful in his mind, the sound of a bond shattering completely under the weight of rejection from his own sister. The shame was unbearable. Caleb wished the ground would swallow him whole right there and end this torment.

He turned, unable to bear her piercing sapphire gaze any longer, and started toward the door. But at the threshold, his feet grew heavy. He stopped and turned back, his expression hardening into a look of fierce determination.

“I know you hate me,” he said firmly, his eyes locking onto hers. “But I swear, no matter what happens, I won’t let the Drake family harm a single hair on your head.”

Amelia let out a short, mocking laugh that echoed in the large office.

“Look at you,” she scoffed, shaking her head. “You can’t even save yourself, yet you want to play the hero? How pathetic.”

Caleb knew there was nothing more to say. He swallowed the bitterness rising in his throat. With his shoulders slumped and his heart in tatters, he walked out of Starlight Entertainment, looking like a man who had lost his soul.

The office fell into a heavy silence after the door clicked shut. Anya, the secretary, shifted nervously near the wall. She looked at the closed door with a hint of professional regret.

“Miss Stone,” she ventured cautiously. “Are you sure about terminating Caleb? With his looks and talent, a comeback isn’t impossible. If we manage his image right, he could still bring huge commercial value to the company.”

Amelia flipped through a file on her desk, looking utterly bored.

“The human entertainment industry never lacks people who want to be famous,” she said indifferently, not even looking up. “Why should I spend money to promote someone who makes me sick just looking at them?”

She didn’t give Anya time to argue. She picked up her phone and dialed a number. I was Skylar Reed, the girl Ethan had saved from Derek Crimson earlier.

“Miss Reed? This is Amelia Stone from Starlight Entertainment,” she said, her tone shifting to professional smoothness. “I’d like to discuss a contract.”

After a brief conversation, she hung up and turned to Anya.

“Notify all departments. Mandatory meeting at ten o’clock,” she ordered sharply. “I’m officially announcing the takeover and our future strategy.”

Anya nodded and hurried out to execute the orders. Left alone, Amelia leaned back in the plush leather executive chair and stretched her arms. She admitted to herself she was a layman when it came to running an entertainment company.

But then she thought of the powerful Grey family standing behind her like a fortress. She thought of the immense capital she now controlled. A confident smile played on her lips; she had absolutely nothing to fear.

Down in the underground parking lot, the air was stale and cold. Ethan walked toward his designated parking space, clutching the cardboard box containing his personal items. He felt hollowed out, stripped of his title and dignity.

Just as he reached for the door handle of his car, a shadow stepped out from behind a concrete pillar, blocking his path.

Derek Crimson stood there, hands shoved deep in his pockets. A malicious sneer twisted his face as he looked Ethan up and down with predatory amusement.

“Well, look at this,” Derek mocked, his voice echoing in the empty garage. “The mighty Stone family, kicked to the curb like stray dogs.”

He took a slow, deliberate step forward, invading Ethan’s personal space.

“No one ordered me,” Ethan said through gritted teeth. “I just couldn’t stand your disgusting methods.”

Derek laughed, a cold, sharp sound that grated on the nerves.

“Liar.”

He waved his hand lazily. Immediately, several burly bodyguards emerged from the shadows behind the cars. Before Ethan could react, they grabbed him roughly and dragged him toward a black SUV.

“Get off me!” Ethan shouted, struggling uselessly as they shoved him inside.

From a dark corner of the garage, a pair of sharp eyes watched everything. A Shadow Guard, clad in black tactical gear, observed the scene with professional detachment.

His gaze was eagle–sharp as he assessed the situation. He checked his mental list of protectees. Ethan Stone was not on it. Intelligence reports confirmed a hostile relationship between Ethan and the primary target, Amelia.

The guard did not move to intervene. He simply made a mental note, marking Derek Crimson as a potential high–risk threat to Amelia Stone. Then, he melted back into the shadows, continuing his silent vigil.

A few minutes later, Caleb composed himself and took the elevator down to the parking garage. He needed to find Ethan so they could figure out their next move together.

But when he arrived at the parking spot, his heart skipped a beat. Ethan’s car was there, sitting alone in the dim light. The windows were up. The car was empty.

A bad feeling settled in Caleb’s stomach, twisting his insides. Ethan should have been waiting for him.

Caleb pulled out his phone and dialed Ethan’s number immediately. The ring tone echoed in the silence of the garage. Finally, the call connected.

“Ethan?” Caleb asked anxiously.

“Not quite,” a sinister, unfamiliar male voice answered.

Caleb’s face darkened instantly. The mere suggestion made his blood boll with age

“No,” Caleb flatly refused, his voice rising to a shout. “I will never do anything to furt Amelia again! Not for you, not for anyone!”

There was a moment of silence on the other end, followed by loud, maniacal batter

“Oh, that is rich!” Derek cackled, “Look at you two brothers. Trying to play the good family members now?”

The laughter stopped abruptly, replaced by a venomous tone.

“It’s pathetic,” Derek spat. “This belated affection of yours? It’s cheap, and it is utterly useless.”
