Chapter 238: Stark Contrast

Natasha held the phone, staring at the ridiculous message from Damien on the screen. She nearly
spat out the sparkling water she had just sipped.
That once arrogant Alpha had actually humbled himself to such an extent. He proposed that if he
couldn’t be Amelia’s official mate, he was willing to be her secret lover.
He wrote in the text that for a powerful woman like Amelia, having only Theodore by her side was
a waste.
Natasha rolled her eyes hard. She found this man’s confidence utterly baffling. The audacity of this
man.
She simply found it hilarious. What made Damien think he was even qualified to get in line?
After laughing enough, Natasha’s fingers flew across the screen. She typed a reply full of mockery.
“Nice thought, Damien. But I’m not interested in a ‘secret lover‘. Stay in your lane.”
(Damien’s POV)
I stared at the ruthless reply on my phone. The spark of hope that had just ignited in my eyes was
instantly extinguished.
I put away my phone in disappointment. My heart stubbornly insisted that Amelia refused because
I had lost my family’s halo. She thought I wasn’t strong enough.
Finn, the wolf inside me, whined in frustration. He longed to become stronger to reclaim our lost
mate.
I made a secret vow. The most urgent task was to rebuild my power.
I decided not to disturb Amelia for a while. I would use the next two months for hellish special training and aggressive business expansion.
I swore to become the most powerful Alpha in the Capital City before Amelia and Theodore’s marking ceremony. I would make Amelia marvel at my transformation and change her mind.
(Amelia’s POV)
After saying goodbye to Theodore, I returned to the Pack House.
As soon as I entered the door, I saw the room decorated with celebratory flowers. My grandfather Alpha Edmund Grey, my grandmother Matriarch Helena Grey, and my five uncles were in the
middle of a heated conversation.
Seeing me return, they all stood up to welcome me
My youngest uncle, Felix, walked up excitedly. He declared he was a loyal fan of “Lily” and had been moved to tears reading my book. He even demanded an autograph from his niece.
Uncle Wesley couldn’t stop praising my performance at the copyright meeting. He thought Griffin spending six hundred million to buy nothing but thin air was incredibly satisfying.
“That slap to his face was perfect, Wesley laughed
Uncle Donovan was curious about where I got the huge funds for my operations.
I smiled and admitted it was from selling rare moonlight herbs and potions.
My uncles were shocked. They realized the sky–high priced potions causing a sensation in the underground auction houses recently were all from me. A rough calculation showed I had earned at least several hundred million dollars.
Grandfather Edmund sighed with emotion. “With Amelia, the Grey family isn’t just reviving.”
I raised the glass of juice in my hand confidently,
“Grandfather, we aren’t just returning to the peak,” I said with a smile. “We are taking over everything. And I’m just getting warmed up.”
Dinner time arrived. Agnes walked out of the kitchen carrying aromatic roast venison and creamy
stew.
A burst of noise came from the kitchen. My five uncles and my father, Jaxon, were all busy inside.
But the scene was less about “helping” and more like a cooking competition full of gunpowder.
Jaxon was slicing bread while mocking Wesley’s plating as “abstract art.”
Felix was roasting Donovan’s sauce, calling it a “biochemical weapon.”
These Alphas, who usually commanded wind and rain in the business world, were now bickering endlessly over whose taste was better.
I leaned against the doorframe, watching this chaotic but vibrant scene. The corners of my mouth couldn’t help but rise.
It was noisy, but this was exactly what I wanted. A real, equal, and lively family atmosphere.
After dinner, I approved Caleb’s friend request on social media.
However, I immediately set the permissions. I blocked him from viewing my past records, only allowing him to see the updates I was about to post.

An idea struck me. I proposed that the whole family take a group photo.

With Agnes’s help, the camera captured a candid moment of everyone laughing and toasting at the dining table.
In the photo, everyone’s face was overflowing with confidence and joy.
I selected this photo and posted it to my feed. The caption was concise and aggressive.
“Out with the old. Life is too short for toxic people. #RealFamily #NewChapter”
I didn’t need Caleb’s regret. I wanted Caleb to see clearly that without them, I was living ten
thousand times better.
This was a silent humiliation for him.
(Caleb’s POV)
In a narrow rental apartment on the edge of the city, the living room appeared exceptionally cold and desolate.
I was exhausted after taking care of my comatose brother in the hospital for a day and a night.
My mother, Livia, looked at the greasy pizza and cheap fried chicken on the table. She complained with dissatisfaction that the food was shabby and hard to swallow.
“I can’t cook,” I explained wearily. “I could only order takeout. If you can’t eat it, we can hire a housekeeper tomorrow.”
Livia ate reluctantly while complaining indignantly about Jaxon being too heartless. She couldn’t believe he had actually kicked us out of the luxurious Pack House.
My father, Adrian, kept a straight face. He said in a deep voice that our expulsion from the pack had already spread throughout the social circle. The relatives were afraid of offending Jaxon and the Crimson family, so it was normal they didn’t want to take us in.
Livia couldn’t accept it. She screamed, emphasizing that Adrian was Jaxon’s biological brother.
I spoke up suddenly, my tone cold as I retorted.
“Amelia is also your biological daughter, my biological sister. When she returned to this house, didn’t we despise her just the same and not want her living with us?”
That single sentence plunged the small room into a deathly silence.
