Griffin Drake snapped the encrypted file shut on his desk.

He leaned back into the plush leather of his chair, a smug satisfaction radiating from him.

“Ms. Glenda,” he said into the phone, his voice dripping with triumph. “Thanks to the clues you provided, I’ve uncovered a piece of information that is simply priceless.”

On the other end of the line, Glenda sounded confused.

“What do you mean? Did you find the boy?”

Griffin’s eyes gleamed with a predatory greed.

“You don’t need to understand the complexities of it yet,” he replied smoothly. “Just prepare

yourself to receive your reward.”

He paused for effect.

“Ten million dollars will be wired to your offshore account by tomorrow morning.”

Glenda’s breath hitched on the other end.

“And my mother’s killer?” she demanded.

“Patience,” Griffin soothed, though his smile was cruel. “I will have that name for you very soon. We

are close.”

He ended the call without waiting for her response.

The silence in the office was heavy, but inside Griffin’s chest, a storm of ecstasy was raging.

He looked down at the closed file again.

It was unbelievable.

The “little bastard” Glenda had been searching for all these years wasn’t just some random illegitimate child.

He was Theodore Crimson’s full–blooded brother.

time.”

Griffin’s smile vanished instantly.

His face turned into a mask of cold indifference as he stared at her.

“Are you asking questions you shouldn’t?” he asked, his voice dropping an octave. “Or are you getting jealous again? Like you did with Celine?”

Jade’s heart skipped a beat.

The mention of Celine made her blood run cold.

She knew Griffin had recaptured Celine. And she knew that he must suspect her involvement in

Celine’s previous escape.

She had to play this perfectly.

“I admit it,” Jade said, her voice trembling slightly. “I was jealous.”

She looked him in the eye, channeling every ounce of resentment she had ever felt.

“I hated her. For years, Celine was the ‘perfect Alpha daughter‘ of the Stone River Pack. Everywhere we went, she was the star, and I was just… there.”

She clenched her fists.

“I was always playing second fiddle to her. The humiliation… it drove me crazy.”

Griffin’s expression shifted.

“Is that so?” Griffin asked skeptically.

“Yes,” Jade insisted. “Amelia was the one who told me where Celine was hiding. I used the opportunity of letting Celine go to cement Amelia’s trust in me.”

Griffin reached out suddenly.

His hand clamped around Jade’s jaw, his fingers digging into her skin with bruising force.

He pulled her face close to his.

“Do you

think I’m a fool, Jade?” he hissed. “Amelia Stone is not someone you can easily

manipulate.”

“I know!” Jade cried out, tears welling in her eyes from the pain. “She’s a cunning wolf. She hasn’t given me anything useful yet because she’s so guarded. But I swear, I did it for us!”

She grabbed his wrist, looking at him with desperate adoration.

“I love you, Griffin. I would never truly betray you.”

Griffin stared at her for a long moment.

He saw the fear in her eyes, but also the devotion he craved.

Slowly, he loosened his grip.

“You better hope that’s the truth,” he said coldly. “Because you know what happens to people who

He leaned back, wiping his hand as if he had touched something dirty.

A shiver ran down Jade’s spine.

She knew he wasn’t joking.

She needed to maintain that pretty face.

Soon, he would gift her to the mysterious Lord Sterling who controlled the “Secret Garden.”

That was her true purpose.

“Get out,” he repeated:

She picked up her purse and turned to leave.

I walked out of the office, my heels clicking softly on the floor.

My heart was pounding against my ribs like a trapped bird.

I glanced up and down the hallway.

I frowned, pulling away slightly.

Why was Griffin so invested in helping this woman find people?

And why did he look so triumphant earlier?

My instincts screamed that this was important.

Griffin didn’t do favors for anyone unless there was something massive in it for him.

If this Glenda person was connected to whatever made Griffin so happy, then Amelia needed to

know.
