Theodore sat in his wheelchair, his golden eyes narrowing as he processed Amelia’s explanation. He
understood her intent immediately.
“Griffin Drake will never allow the investigation into Hugh York’s death to deepen,” Theodore said, his voice low and resonant. “Glenda was not merely a convenient scapegoat you found on the street. She was a pawn Griffin had placed in the shadows years ago.”
He looked at Amelia, a flicker of admiration crossing his face.
“If the police or the Pack Enforcers dug into Glenda’s background, they wouldn’t just find a grieving widow seeking revenge,” he continued. “They might follow the trail right back to the dirty work Griffin had her do. Human trafficking, money laundering… the Drakes have their hands in everything.”
Amelia looked at Theodore with genuine appreciation. She let out a soft sigh, leaning back against her
desk.
“Communicating with such a smart Alpha is truly effortless,” she said. “It is pleasant not to have to explain every little detail.”
“So you are certain of the outcome?” Theodore asked.
“Absolutely,” Amelia nodded. “Griffin is paranoid. He will pressure Arthur to close the case quickly to protect himself.”
She picked up a silver needle, twirling it between her fingers.
“It is a strategy to kill two birds with one stone. I get rid of Hugh, who was becoming a nuisance. Glenda is tied up as a loose end, removing a dangerous tool from the board. And best of all, Griffin is dragged into the mess, forced to clean up his own garbage.”
Theodore watched the light play off the silver needle in her hand.
“What about Tanya York?” he asked. “A mother’s grief is a dangerous thing. She won’t give up so easily.”
Amelia smiled coldly. The expression didn’t reach her sapphire eyes.
“I am not worried about Tanya’s revenge,” she stated calmly. “I hold a fatal secret about her. Something that could destroy her standing in the Gale Pack entirely.”
She placed the needle back into its case with a definitive click.
“Once exposed, she would be too busy saving her own skin to bother anyone else.”
The tension in the room dissipated slightly. Amelia tilted her head, looking at Theodore with a playful glint
in her eyes.

“Tell me, Theodore,” she asked, her tone half–joking. “Do you worry that men wouldn’t like a woman who is too calculating? Am I too vicious for your taste?”
Theodore wheeled himself closer to her. He looked deep into her eyes, his expression shifting to one of deep affection and unshakeable firmness.
“Amelia,” he said softly. “Only weak Alphas fear a powerful partner.”
He reached out, his hand hovering near hers.
“In this dog–eat–dog world, only the strong survive. Why would I want a sheep when I can stand beside a
queen? Only those who cannot enforce their will fear a woman with a mind like a blade.”
The two exchanged a knowing smile, a silent accord passing between them.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere outside the Treatment Center morgue was suffocating.
Tanya collapsed against the cold wall, her expensive dress crumpled. She broke down completely, her
wails echoing through the sterile corridor.
“Arthur! How am I supposed to live now?” she sobbed, clutching at her husband’s pant leg. “Our son… our
only son!”
Alpha Arthur York stood over her. His face was grim, etched with the stress of the night.
Although he felt defeated by the loss of a son, his mind was already racing elsewhere. He cared more
about the survival of the Gale Pack and the messy situation threatening to engulf his business.
“Get up, Tanya,” he said, his voice rough.
He offered a few stiff words of comfort, patting her shoulder awkwardly. Then, the mask of the grieving father slipped.
“I have made a decision,” Arthur said ruthlessly. “Hugh’s body is to be cremated immediately. We will issue a statement declaring the death an unfortunate traffic accident.”
He looked down at her. “We must stop all investigations now.”
Tanya’s eyes widened in disbelief. She stopped crying instantly, staring at him as if he were a stranger.
“What?” she whispered.
Then she screamed in opposition.
“No! Are you insane? My son was murdered!”
She scrambled to her feet, her face twisted with hysteria.
“The real murderer is still at large! Glenda is just a scapegoat! It had to be Jade York! Or that bitch Amelia Stone! They are the ones pulling the strings!”
“Silence!” Arthur barked.

He grabbed her arm, his fingers digging in painfully.
“I know Glenda was a fall guy. I am not an idiot.”
He lowered his voice to a harsh whisper.

“But I just received a warning call from Griffin Drake himself. He does not want the police finding any link between Glenda and the Drake family. He ordered me to suppress the matter. Do you understand? We cannot defy him.”
Tanya struggled against his grip, but Arthur held fast.
“To avoid offending the powerful Drake family, we have no choice,” Arthur said, showing his hard side as
an Alpha. “The surveillance footage is irrefutable. It shows Glenda acting alone.”
He glared at his mate.
“Do not act rashly, Tanya. If you bring unnecessary trouble upon the family with your screaming, I will not
protect you.”
Tanya stared at him. For the first time, she truly saw the man she had obeyed for over twenty years.
She realized with a jolt of horror that in Arthur’s eyes, the dead Hugh was not a beloved child. He was just
a replaceable heir. A broken asset.
“You monster,” she hissed.
She lashed out, clawing at his chest.
“He was your blood!”
Irritated by her resistance, Arthur pushed her away with a scowl.
“I have a company to save,” he muttered.
He turned and left with his secretary, his footsteps echoing down the hall, leaving Tanya alone in the
hallway cursing in despair.
Arthur walked out of the Treatment Center building into the cool night air.
He adjusted his tie, taking a deep breath to compose himself. He pulled out his phone and dialed Griffin’s
