Chapter 336: Paternity Test on a Corpse
(Amelia’s POV)
I looked into my mother’s worried eyes and flashed a brilliant, reassuring smile.

“Mom, Hugh York’s death has absolutely nothing to do with me,” I said, my voice steady and frank. “I didn’t lift a finger to kill him.”
Seraphina let out a long, shuddering breath, her shoulders sagging with relief.
“Oh, thank the Moon Goddess,” she whispered, pressing a hand to her chest. “I know the high society
circles are full of filth, Amelia. I know terrible things happen.”
She looked at me with intense earnestness.
“But I don’t want you to become a cold–blooded killer. Life shouldn’t be cheap to you.”
She paused, her expression hardening slightly.
“Not that Hugh didn’t deserve it. Whoever crushed that monster did the world a favor. But it shouldn’t be
you.”
Her anxiety returned, her gaze darting around the room as if invisible enforcers were already closing in.
“Your birthday banquet is in three days. The whole pack, the whole city will be watching. I couldn’t bear it if
the enforcers came for you then. I can’t imagine you facing a trial.”
I reached across the table and gently took her hand.
“Mom, relax. I have no deep feud with Hugh. Why would I take such a massive risk for someone like him?”
“But the rumors,” Seraphina insisted. “They say he died right after you visited Night City. The timing is too
suspicious.”
I scoffed, shaking my head.
“That is just a smear campaign. Think about it. Night City is Griffin Drake’s territory. He controls the
narrative there. He wants to drag me down, so of course, he is spreading lies.”
I pulled out my phone and slid it across the table.
“Look online. There is no real evidence. Just empty talk.”
Seraphina glanced at the screen, then back at me. The logic seemed to settle her nerves.
“You are right,” she murmured. “Griffin is a snake. It makes sense he would try to frame you.”
The heavy weight seemed to lift from her shoulders. She straightened up, her Alpha female aura returning slightly.

“Well, if anything does happen,” she said firmly. “Your father and I will use every connection we have. We
will protect you.”
Jaxon, who had been watching us silently, suddenly let out a booming laugh.
“Look at you, worrying all day for nothing,” he teased, trying to lighten the mood. “Our daughter is smarter
than that.”
I picked up the serving fork and placed a thick slice of roasted venison onto Seraphina’s plate.
“Eat, Mom. For you and Dad, I promise I won’t bite off more than I can chew.”
Seraphina looked at the meat, then at me, her eyes softening with emotion.
“I just can’t bear to lose you again,” she said quietly. “Please, just think twice before you do anything
dangerous.”
“I will,” I promised.
The tension in the dining room finally broke, replaced by a warm, cozy atmosphere. We finished our meal
in relative peace.
However, as I ate, I could feel Jaxon’s gaze lingering on me. It wasn’t accusatory, but it was sharp. He was
an experienced Alpha and a warrior.
He knew I had fooled Seraphina. But I hadn’t fooled him.
He sensed that Hugh’s death was connected to me. But since I hadn’t technically pulled the trigger–and since I had denied it so confidently–he decided to feign ignorance. He chose to accept my story to keep
the peace.
*He knows,* Ava purred in my mind, sounding incredibly smug. *But he is proud of you regardless. Those
naive fools who think they can catch us are in for a surprise.*

Early the next morning, I arrived at Starlight Entertainment.
The moment I stepped off the elevator, Anya Reed rushed toward me. Her face was pale, and she was wringing her hands in panic.
“Miss Stone! You’re finally here,” she gasped.
“What is it?” I asked, not slowing my pace.
“It’s Mrs. York,” Anya whispered urgently, trotting to keep up. “Tanya York, the Luna of the Gale Pack. She is in the reception room.”
Anya looked back over her shoulder fearfully.
“She looks like she wants to tear someone apart. She has been demanding to see you for an hour.”
I didn’t break my stride. I ignored Anya’s concern completely.

“Let her wait,” I said coldly.

I walked past the glass–walled reception room. Through the transparent partition, I saw Tanya pacing like a caged beast. Her hair was disheveled, and her eyes were wild.
I cast a single, cold glance in her direction but didn’t stop. I headed straight for my office.
Tanya saw me. Her eyes widened with fury.
She didn’t wait for an invitation. She stormed out of the reception room, her heels clicking aggressively
against the floor tiles.
I entered my office, and before I could even turn around, Tanya barged in behind me.
*Bang!*
She slammed the door shut with enough force to rattle the frame.
I calmly walked around my desk and sat down in my comfortable leather chair. I pressed the power button on my computer, watching the screen flicker to life.
Tanya rushed to the desk. She slammed both hands down on the polished surface, leaning over to glare at
“You bitch!” she screamed. “Did you instruct that woman, Glenda, to run over my son?”
Her chest heaved with rage.
“You did this to frame Griffin! You wanted to drive a wedge between the Gale Pack and the Drake family,
didn’t you?”
I leaned back, crossing my legs. I looked at her as if she were an idiot.
“Mrs. York, your imagination is truly impressive,” I mocked. “But your logic is flawed.”
I gestured vaguely in the air.
“Glenda is Griffin’s subordinate. Everyone knows that. Why would his own dog follow my orders to kill your
son?”
“You must have something on her!” Tanya spat, unwilling to let go of her theory. “You threatened her! You
forced her hand!”
While she shouted, I noticed her right hand slipping quietly into her designer bag. It was a subtle
