Chapter 343: A Test of Loyalty
(Author’s POV)
Livia sat frozen in her chair, trying to digest everything she had just heard.

The overwhelming information caused her to shift from initial hysteria into an eerie, deathly silence. She stared at Amelia with unblinking eyes.
Amelia looked at this so–called mother of hers, her tone ice–cold as she laid out the brutal reality.
“If you want to verify whether Adrian truly intends to frame his own biological daughter by murdering his
mate, there’s only one way. You must cooperate and play along with this performance.”
She paused, letting the weight of her words settle.
“I promise that if you cooperate, I’ll arrange for people to protect you in secret. Your life will be safe.”
Amelia’s gaze turned mocking as she continued.
“You’re incredibly foolish, but perhaps you still possess the basic instinct for survival. Weigh your options
carefully. Do you want to die in confusion as Adrian’s sacrificial pawn in his power grab? Or do you want to
seize this one chance to stay alive?”
Livia stared at the cold–eyed daughter before her, her heart torn by violent internal struggle.
She couldn’t believe that her mate of thirty years could be so cruel. She couldn’t believe her Alpha would sacrifice her just to return to the center of power.
Finally, her survival instinct won out.
She gritted her teeth and agreed to cooperate, but immediately tried to negotiate terms.
“If I win, if this proves Adrian is innocent, you must forgive them. You must allow us to return to Stone
River Pack.”
Amelia scoffed at Livia’s attempt to bargain.
“This is me offering you a lifeline, not conducting a business negotiation,” she said coldly.
Before Livia could respond, Amelia gestured to Silas behind her.
Silas moved forward swiftly. He forcibly pried open Livia’s jaw and shoved a black pill into her mouth.
Livia was forced to swallow it, then broke into violent coughing.
Amelia used this moment to threaten her with a calculated lie.
“This is a special slow–acting poison. If you dare leak a single word to Adrian, or if you try to sabotage this

plan, you won’t receive the antidote. You’ll end up like Ethan was in the hospital–your internal organs
rotting away in endless agony.”
Livia remembered Ethan’s agonized state in the hospital. Terror instantly consumed her.
At the same time, a desperate need to verify her mate’s true feelings drove her forward.
She trembled as she swore she wouldn’t leak any information.
Amelia nodded with satisfaction. She instructed Silas to release Livia after nightfall, then turned and left
the oppressive sealed room.
Livia collapsed weakly in her chair. She stared up at the dim ceiling, praying silently to the Moon Goddess
that Adrian wouldn’t betray her trust.
Meanwhile, Ethan drove to the apartment building where Caleb was currently staying.
He pressed the doorbell repeatedly but received no answer. Finally, he called Caleb’s phone.
Ethan couldn’t hide his excitement over the phone.
“I got formal invitations to Amelia’s birthday banquet! And the guest list even includes Father Adrian and
Aunt Lyra!”
Upon hearing this news, Caleb immediately dropped his work and rushed back to his residence.
The two brothers met near a coffee shop at the base of the apartment building.
When Caleb received the gold–embossed invitations from Ethan’s hands and saw his own name printed on
one, his hands trembled with emotion.
For these two brothers, this was their first opportunity to attend Amelia’s birthday as recognized family
members.
Caleb’s eyes sparkled with anticipation and joy.
The brief happiness was soon followed by the cold splash of reality.
Ethan suggested they personally select a birthday gift for Amelia, but when he checked his pockets, he
found himself nearly broke.
He remembered the past, when gifts for Celine had always been limited–edition designer handbags or expensive jewelry. Now his bank account was nearly empty.
Expensive gifts were beyond his means. Cheap ones would surely be looked down upon by the current
Amelia.
He sighed, deciding to browse the shopping district in hopes of finding something meaningful yet within his budget.

Caleb volunteered to accompany him.
The two got into Caleb’s car. Though they were puzzled about their father’s and aunt’s current
whereabouts, they decided to buy the gifts first and surprise the elders when they returned.
