6: I Won’t Change
Chapter 386: I Won’t Change
(Author’s POV)
“Just another hire for the pack.” Gideon did not even bother to look up from the intricately carved wooden
board.
His weathered, gnarled fingers hovered thoughtfully over a dark knight. “Arrange it however you see fit.”
Theodore watched his grandfather’s highly calculating movements in complete silence. The old Alpha King was always ten steps ahead of everyone else in the room.
“As long as you’ve vetted the person yourself,” Gideon added smoothly, his tone leaving no room for
argument.
Within the massive territory of the Crimson Moon Pack, absolute trust was an incredibly rare commodity. Every single member of the household staff required a rigorous, deeply invasive background check.
Whether it was a high–ranking butler, a lowly servant, a kitchen cook, or a simple groundskeeper, the strict
rules remained absolute. No one was permitted anywhere near Gideon without extensive, obsessive
scrutiny.
This vital security process had once fallen entirely under the strict purview of Gideon’s personal butler. It was a massive, highly coveted responsibility that controlled the daily flow of information in the pack.
But in recent years, the delicate power dynamic had shifted subtly behind closed doors. The entire vetting process had been quietly transferred to Marcus.
Marcus was Theodore’s fiercely loyal and most trusted Beta. He now handled all such delicate matters with ruthless, unwavering efficiency.
This silent transfer of administrative pow
er spoke volumes about Theodore’s steadily rising influence. He essentially controlled exactly who walked the hallowed halls of the main estate,
“Understood,” Theodore replied calmly, his handsome face betraying zero emotion. He purposefully placed his next piece on the checkered board.
Almost immediately, he realized his fatal, unavoidable mistake. He had lost the grueling game yet again.
Gideon let out a low, rough hum of deep acknowledgment. He casually swept his winning pieces back onto the side of the polished board.
The Alpha King rose slowly from his heavy, ornate wooden seat. His commanding, terrifying presence instantly filled every corner of the quiet study.
“Chess doesn’t lie,” Gideon spoke in a tone that was calm yet heavily weighted with dangerous meaning. “Garrett still has a long way to go before he can stand where you stand.”

Theodore remained perfectly still in his expensive wheelchair. He absorbed the hidden, complex praise
without showing a single trace of outward pride.
Gideon paused by the massive glass window, looking out into the pitch–black night. “As for the gift you gave Amelia.”
Theodore’s glowing golden eyes narrowed slightly in the dim light. He waited patiently for the inevitable,
harsh judgment from his grandfather.
“Since it was your own decision, I’ll take it to mean you’re certain of what you feel for her,” Gideon
continued smoothly. “I won’t interfere.”
The old man turned back slowly to face his crippled grandson. His piercing, ancient gaze locked fiercely
onto Theodore’s face.
“My position remains the exact same,” Gideon declared with absolute, unquestionable authority. “As long
as nothing goes wrong, the title of heir to the Crimson Moon Pack is still yours.”
Theodore set down his own wooden pieces in total, suffocating silence. He turned those heavy, loaded
words over and over in his sharp mind.
*As long as nothing goes wrong.*
That was the highly dangerous condition the old man had deliberately attached to his promise. It was an unspoken, deadly threat wrapped neatly in a false reassurance.
It clearly meant that if something did go wrong, the immense power could be snatched away instantly. The coveted title might no longer be his to claim.

By the time the two ambitious brothers finally left Gideon’s sprawling estate, the night air felt suffocating. Derek’s initial frustration had quickly curdled into something much uglier and far more volatile.
He kicked violently at the loose gravel scattered along the dark garden path. He cursed Theodore under
his breath with pure, unadulterated venom.
“He is just a soft blade,” Derek spat angrily into the cold darkness. “The kind of cowardly weapon that cuts without warning.”
Derek’s handsome face twisted into a cruel, highly sadistic sneer. He began to pace wildly near their
parked luxury car.
“If we ever seize power, I won’t just kill him quickly,” Derek muttered darkly, his fists clenching. “I’ll hand Theodore over to someone truly depraved.”
He laughed, a harsh and extremely grating sound that echoed in the quiet night. “I just want to watch that arrogant cripple suffer endlessly.”
Garrett stood completely still by the heavy car door. He didn’t respond to his brother’s manic, bloodthirsty ranting right away.

The bitter, humiliating sting of losing at chess still sat heavily within him. Gideon’s profound look of utter disappointment was lodged in his chest like a poisonous thorn.
He simply couldn’t pull the agonizing memory free. He had studied the complex game intensely for
months on end.
Yet, he had still lost to the old man without any ceremony or dignity. He knew exactly what that
dismissive, cold look from his grandfather meant for his future.
But a simple chess match could be lost without destroying everything. The ultimate succession of the
Crimson Moon Pack could not.
Derek nudged his shoulder roughly, pressing him heavily for a supportive response. Garrett finally gave a vague, entirely hollow agreement just to shut him up.
“Sure, Derek,” Garrett murmured absently, his mind racing. “Whatever you say.”
That weak confirmation was more than enough to send his foolish brother into a fit of gleeful anticipation. Derek was already picturing Theodore’s brutal downfall as though it were completely guaranteed.
Watching his brother’s blind, incredibly foolish confidence, something bitter and tangled stirred deep in
Garrett’s chest. He knew this brutal war was far from over.
Whether Theodore’s threatening words tonight had been a bluff or the truth, it didn’t matter anymore. Their dangerous play for absolute power had already gone way too far to turn back.
Garrett made a cold, highly calculated silent resolution in the dark. Jasper and Uncle M desperately
needed to make their move.

And they needed to do it soon before Theodore solidified his absolute control. Time was rapidly running
out for the fourth branch of the family.
If nothing had shifted in their favor by next month, Garrett wouldn’t hesitate to take extreme, unforgivable measures. He would have her grave completely desecrated.
Or worse, he would have her name struck from the pack’s official records entirely. He would do whatever it
took to drive Uncle M into violent, uncontrollable action.
It was Theodore’s most heavily guarded wound, perfectly ready to be used as brutal leverage. It was an undeniably cruel, heartless move.
But Garrett clenched his jaw tightly as he got into the car. He was rapidly running out of clean, honorable
options.
Back in his private room after washing up, Theodore opened his sleek laptop. He immediately initiated a highly secure video call with Amelia.
