I cut Damien off mid–sentence. “Stop. I don’t need to hear any of this. Don’t contact me again. My fiancé won’t be pleased.”
His pathetic pleading didn’t move me at all. His behavior was childish and immature. If we were truly mates, he should have spoken openly about his feelings instead of bottling everything up and assuming the worst about me.
Damien’s tone changed instantly when he realized his begging wasn’t working. “Amelia, I was right about you all along! You never cared about me! For two years, you’ve just treated me like a dog! You’ll regret losing me! You’ll soon discover no one in this world will love you or treat you better than I did!”
He hung up abruptly, leaving me staring at my phone in bewilderment.
If that was Damien’s version of love, it was certainly volatile and repulsive. Isn’t real love about respect and understanding? Not trying to gain validation through putting someone
down?
Honestly, I felt wronged. During our two years together, I never demanded anything from him. Everything Damien did for me was his own initiative. I never asked for any of it, so how did that translate to me treating him like a dog?
Theodore observed my confused expression and smiled. “Don’t think too much about it. Go back and get some rest this afternoon.”
I shrugged and put my phone away. “You should rest too. It’ll help with healing your legs. Besides, you’re coming to my welcoming banquet tonight. There’ll definitely be quite a show, so you’ll need your energy.”
“I’m looking forward to seeing your counterattack,” Theodore replied with a knowing smile.
(Third–person’s POV)
In the grand hall of The Twilight Pavilion, Adrian and Livia had already arrived at the banquet venue on Patriarch Alaric’s orders. They were helping Jaxon and Seraphina receive guests.
Caleb was proudly boasting to Celine in another room. “Celine, I went to great lengths to have Katya get this evening gown for you. Seraphina probably still thinks she has the real one. When you and Amelia show up tonight wearing identical dresses, everyone will see who’s

Celine admired herself in the full–length mirror, turning around once before facing Caleb with a sweet smile. “Thank you, Caleb.”
Caleb felt his efforts were worthwhile. “Only you deserve the world’s finest evening gown, Celine. Amelia doesn’t deserve it.”
Celine noticed Ethan staring into space, not offering any comment. She approached him and asked softly, “What’s wrong, Ethan? Something on your mind?”
Ethan looked up, meeting Celine’s concerned gaze, and shook his head. “Nothing important.” After a pause, he added, “You look beautiful tonight.”
Celine hesitated before saying, “I heard from your secretary Anya that you’ve been worried about acquiring the rights to Shadow Healer Lily’s latest treatment manual.”
She continued, “Perhaps I can help. I know a healer who’s acquainted with Lily. He says they have some connection. Maybe I could arrange for him to set up a private meeting between you and Lily?”
Ethan’s expression finally changed, his eyes filling with hope. “That would be great, Celine. Thank you.”
“Ethan, there’s no need for such formality between us,” Celine replied with a smile.
Ethan smiled back. Celine was so thoughtful and kind–how could she possibly have hired someone to assault Amelia as claimed? Amelia was clearly just trying to drive a wedge
between him and his sister!
Caleb spoke in a sarcastic tone, “Look how concerned Celine is about you, Ethan. Shouldn’t you stop making her worry?”
Ethan understood what Caleb was implying. He gave Caleb a complicated look before saying, “There are difficult circumstances surrounding my leg injury that I can’t explain in detail right
now.”
Caleb snorted, “What circumstances? It was obviously Amelia’s doing!”
Ethan remained silent, which Caleb took as confirmation. “I don’t understand why you won’t get revenge when she crippled your leg. If you’re afraid of offending her, I’ll deal with her tonight!”
Ethan frowned and warned, “Don’t do anything reckless if you’re not certain of success. You might end up hurting yourself.”

Caleb smiled confidently, “Don’t worry. I’ve already learned my lesson with her once. I won’t make the same mistake twice! Tonight I’ll make sure she loses face completely and grandfather becomes thoroughly disappointed in her!”
(Third–person’s POV)
At seven o’clock, representatives from nearly every invited pack in Northgate City arrived for the welcoming banquet honoring the Alpha’s true daughter.
When Celine entered, Seraphina, who was greeting guests, froze in shock. She quickly tugged at her husband Jaxon’s sleeve. “Jaxon, we have a problem. Look outside.”
Jaxon looked toward the entrance and his eyes darkened when he saw Celine. She was wearing an evening gown identical to the one Seraphina had prepared for Amelia.
Seraphina’s face turned pale. “Jaxon, did I accidentally get Amelia a counterfeit?” Her voice trembled, nearly breaking into tears. Given her status, she had never questioned the authenticity of the gown she’d secured for Amelia. But seeing Celine boldly wearing an identical dress at the welcoming banquet made her fear she’d ruined everything.
Jaxon took his wife’s hand and said gently, “Seraphina, don’t panic.”
Nearby, Livia spotted her son Caleb and adopted daughter Celine arriving. She deliberately walked over to Seraphina. “My, my, Sera. This banquet is specifically for your daughter, yet you look so upset.”
Seraphina snapped out of her shock, her gentle gaze turning to disgust. She kept her voice low as she confronted Livia. “You did this on purpose, didn’t you, Livia?”
