Chapter 48: Damien Regretted It
Chapter 48: Damien Regretted It
(Damien’s POV)
I stood frozen in disbelief, staring at the radiant woman standing confidently before the large screen. That was Amelia! How could she be here?! Wait–did she just say this welcome banquet was being held for her?!
Since I hadn’t received any news about Amelia this afternoon, I’d come to this welcome banquet with absolutely no interest in attending. Was she truly the daughter of the Stone River Pack’s Alpha? I couldn’t even describe the emotions churning inside me. Regret consumed me–why had I ever broken our mate bond?!
If I hadn’t let my pride get the better of me and severed our relationship, Amelia and I would be perfectly matched now! The issue of incompatible status would never have existed.
I heard my father exchanging pleasantries with the Stone family members. I knew how captivating Amelia was. Her only “flaw” had been being a country healer. But now? She was an Alpha’s daughter! This meant I could rightfully pursue a union with her!
“Dad, I want her as my mate!” I blurted out, pointing directly at Amelia.
My outburst stopped the polite conversation between my father and Jaxon and Seraphina. They turned to me, shock evident on their faces. When Seraphina recovered, her expression transformed into one of protective fury.
“Who do you think you are?” she demanded, looking ready to tear me apart.
My father shifted uncomfortably beside me. “I apologize. This is my son Damien, whom I recently brought back into the family. Unlike Amelia, he’s not yet familiar with proper etiquette.” He turned to me, hissing under his breath, “Stop talking nonsense!”
But I refused to back down. “Father, you promised to make things up to me. You said you’d grant me anything within reason. Well, I want to marry Amelia.”
Seraphina’s expression turned glacial. “Even if Amelia weren’t already betrothed, which she is, her marriage would never be for you to decide.”
I frowned, the words hitting me like a physical blow. “What do you mean she’s already betrothed?”
Jaxon’s face darkened as he addressed my father. “You should teach your son some manners. Amelia is our precious daughter, and we won’t allow anyone to disrespect her like

My father apologized profusely, but Seraphina had already turned away, clearly done with the conversation. Jaxon delivered a final blow: “The Blackwood Pack is no longer welcome tonight.” With that, he followed his wife.
My father turned to me, exasperation clear on his face. “What were you thinking?”
“Amelia was my mate,” I insisted. “It’s only right that I should marry her.”
My father’s expression hardened. “Regardless of whether she was your former mate, she is now an Alpha’s daughter. Your behavior was inexcusably rude.”
I ignored his scolding. “What did they mean about her being betrothed?”
With a sigh, my father pointed across the room to a man in a wheelchair. “That’s Theodore Crimson, heir to the Alpha King. He was once the most renowned Alpha in Northgate City- many high–born daughters dreamed of marrying him. Alpha King Gideon arranged his marriage to Celine, but after Theodore was crippled, the Stone family became reluctant to let Celine marry him. So they’re having their newly returned daughter marry him instead.”
I scoffed inwardly. I didn’t care what kind of big shot he’d been before. Now he was nothing but a cripple in a wheelchair. How could he possibly compete with me for Amelia?
My wolf growled deep within me: “A disabled Alpha could never be worthy of her.”
(Third–person’s POV)
Amelia noticed Seraphina and Jaxon returning with stormy expressions. “What happened?” she asked, concerned.
“We encountered an extremely rude young man,” Seraphina fumed, still bristling with anger.
Amelia glanced toward the entrance and immediately understood when she spotted Damien. Seraphina caught her recognition.
“Do you know that boy?” she asked.
Amelia didn’t hide the truth. “He was my mate before. When he discovered he was an Alpha’s son, he deemed my status insufficient and broke our bond.”
Seraphina’s disgust deepened. “He just announced he wants to marry you, as if you’re some object to be claimed.”
Jaxon wrapped an arm around his wife’s shoulders. “Don’t waste energy on someone like him,” he soothed. “He’s not worth our attention.”

Chapter 48 Damien Regretted
Across the room, Alpha King Gideon turned to his grandson Theodore. “You seem distracted; he observed. “No need to stay by my side. Go spend time with that fiancée you can’t stop thinking about.”
Theodore smiled slightly and nodded. “Thank you, Grandfather.” He turned his wheelchair
toward Amelia.
Ronan opened his mouth to speak, but the Alpha King cut him off with a cold expression. “Go on, broaden your horizons.”
Ronan’s smile stiffened, though he bowed respectfully, “Thank you, Grandfather”
As he turned away, his smile vanished completely. He was already seething with anger, and now he could hear people whispering about how Theodore still held Gideon’s favor despite his disability, while Ronan had just been coldly dismissed,
Ronan’s eyes hardened. The only pitiful one would be Theodore, he thought darkly.
Amelia pushed Theodore’s wheelchair through the crowd, casting a fleeting glance at the young man moving among the guests. “Is that your brother Ronan?” she asked casually,
Theodore nodded in confirmation.
Amelia looked away thoughtfully. “You two don’t look much alike.”
Theodore joked, “Are you saying I’m much more handsome than him?”
Amelia laughed softly. “I’m being serious, and here you are making jokes.”
Theodore’s gaze followed Ronan through the crowd, his tone becoming more serious. “Many people have commented that Ronan and I don’t resemble each other much.”
Amelia raised an eyebrow. “And you’ve never suspected anything?”
Her wolf Ava whispered within her: “This Ronan’s aura makes me uneasy.”
