Chapter 71: Marcus Punishes Isla

(Third–person’s POV)

Marcus fixed his cold gaze on Isla, his voice devoid of any warmth. “Isla, Alpha Theodore’s legs were crippled because he saved you. Not only are you ungrateful, but you’ve also changed your attitude toward him, repeatedly mocking him because you believe he’s now worthless and unable to inherit the Alpha King position.”

His eyes narrowed dangerously. “How naive can you be? Alpha Theodore is still alive, yet you and Ronan think you can trample all over him and show off your power.”

Without breaking eye contact, Marcus reached for the liquor cabinet and pulled out a bottle of champagne. In one swift motion, he smashed it directly against Isla’s knee.

The bottle shattered with a sickening c***k. Isla’s agonized scream filled the room as she crumpled to the floor, clutching her knee and rolling in pain. Tears and mucus streamed down her face, her appearance utterly pathetic.

I watched impassively from my wheelchair. Part of me felt a distant pang at seeing someone I once protected reduced to this state, but that sentiment was quickly overshadowed by the memory of her betrayal.

Marcus stared at her without emotion, his voice cold as ice. “You can’t even handle this much pain? Alpha Theodore was struck by silver blades hundreds of times for your sake, yet you couldn’t offer even one sincere word of gratitude.”

He reached for another bottle and brought it down hard on her other knee. Isla’s shriek was even more piercing this time, her voice breaking with desperation.

“Please, I beg you… spare me…” she sobbed, her face contorted with pain. “I know I was wrong, Theodore…”

Amelia stood nearby, letting out a soft laugh. “Oh.” She turned to me with an amused expression. “Your Beta is quite harsh. Not showing any mercy to a pretty face.”

I smiled faintly. “That depends on whether the person deserves mercy. If they’re trash, they should be treated as such.”

Amelia nodded in agreement. “You’re right. Those who betray you, especially those close to you, deserve the harshest punishment. They hurt you the deepest.”

disappointment in my eyes. I had never mistreated her, had cared for her like a real sister, and yet she had conspired with Ronan against me.

This betrayal cut deeper than any silver blade. The pain of it was a constant, throbbing reminder of my own naivety.

Amelia seemed to sense my thoughts. She walked over and placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. “Don’t think about it anymore. Let Marcus handle Isla. I’ll help you treat your legs.”

I nodded, no longer sparing Isla another glance. The sound of my wheelchair rolling away was accompanied by her desperate cries.

“Theodore… don’t go… please let me go…” Her pleas fell on deaf ears. The person who had once protected her had already grown cold to her suffering.

Logan’s voice growled in my mind: “She doesn’t deserve your protection.”

“I know, Logan,” I responded silently. “She’s already paying the price.”

When we reached the master bedroom, Amelia closed the door behind us and crouched in front of me, looking into my eyes with genuine concern.

“I know you’re always smiling, but you also feel lost and sad sometimes,” she said softly. “I’ve had my vulnerable moments too, but I got through them.”

Her eyes held mine steadily. “From now on, you need to live for yourself. Family, friendship,

love none of these should come before your own well–being. Taking care of your own

emotions is what matters most.”

I listened quietly until she finished, then spoke: “At least, I want to put you before myself.”

Amelia froze, clearly caught off guard.

“Perhaps in the future,” I continued, “I won’t be able to help putting you first.”

She stared at me for a moment before suddenly breaking into a smile. “Theodore, you really know how to talk.”

She stood up and leaned down to place a gentle kiss on my cheek. “Is this what you wanted?” The gesture was quick but filled with tenderness.

My entire body went rigid. My breathing stopped, and my eyes widened with an almost startling brightness. It took me a long moment to recover, looking up at her with delight and deep affection in my gaze.

Amelia laughed at my dumbfounded expression. “Why aren’t you saying anything? Did my

The corners of my mouth lifted into a smile as I nodded slightly. “Yes, and if you kiss me again, I might not just be stupid – I might go crazy.”

My voice was soft but filled with sincerity. In that moment, all the betrayal and pain seemed to fade in importance. I had lost family members I trusted, but I had gained her.

As long as she remained by my side, I wasn’t left with nothing.

Logan growled in my mind: “She is ours, forever.”

“Yes,” I responded silently. “Forever.”

Amelia laughed and pulled out a silver needle from her kit. “Enough chatting. I should hurry and treat you. If your legs don’t stand up soon, people outside will spread all sorts of rumors about you.”

She crouched down and began preparing for the treatment. “If you can’t enter your own territory today, tomorrow you might not even be able to enter your own home.”

She started treating my legs, her movements precise and confident. Two hours later, the treatment was complete.

And Ronan, who was two hours late, finally arrived.
