Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 10

Chapter 10

AiresPOV

The other staff is holding their breath, not meeting my eyes for longer than necessary.

Kaela goes to stand near the sideboard, fingers rubbing at her temples, clearly weighing how much she should say.

But then

She exhales and continues. The Luna brought you a medicinal dish to the pack house, and Miss Volkov said she was about to faint with low blood sugar. The Luna was instructed to give the meal to her instead.

I frown slightly; the memory surfaces easily. It didn’t seem significant at the time.

Kelly keeps going, apparently not bothered anymore.

Miss Volkov said it suited her taste perfectly, and it was then she found out it was medicinal cuisine. She mentioned her doctor had recommended similar meals, but she couldn’t find anyone who knew how to prepare them properly.

I remember how Imema had praised Talia’s cooking, and I had asked her to make it for her more often.

At the time,Kelly spoke before I could finish my thoughts.

You said that since the Luna was already cooking for you and the Young Master, adding one more portion wouldn’t be too difficult.

My jaw tightened.

She did say their tastes might not align, but you and the Young Master insisted, saying that you’ll eat whatever Miss. Volkov wants to eat. You told the Luna to take her requests, and since then, I have been handling the groceries.

I did say those things without much thought, simply because it seemed reasonable. But now, why does it sound like I have turned my mate into a personal chef for Imema?

No, I’m thinking too much. She’s just doing a favour to a family friend-

Alpha, please have a look.

Kaela lifts her phone and turns the screen to me, as if presenting some incriminating evidence.

I glance down to find Talia has left the message stares back at me, and I felt

Chapter 10

Before I can speak, my phone rings. Imema’s name flashes across the screen.

Aires!

She sobs the moment the call connects. What should we do? Luna Talia seems really upset with me.

Her voice trembles, and a thought suddenly pops up. I have rarely seen Talia cry

The only time was after that incident, when Imema had fallen into the water at her own Welcome party. Talia stubbornly refused to apologize, even when my mother said she had seen her push Imema into the water.

I had brought Aeson to the Perseus manor, telling her she wouldn’t see him until she admitted her fault.

That same night, Aeson’s illness had flared into a high fever, and Talia had come running to the gates.

I had ordered them shut- my punishment was absolute.

A storm broke out; and while taking care of Aeson, we didn’t remember her presence outside the gates until the butler mentioned it, hours later.

Dawn was about to break when they brought her in, saked 19:27

the bone and shaking.

That day, as she kneeled down and finally apologised for misbehaving, I saw trails of tears streaming down her face, silentlyfor the first time since we met.

Aires?Imema’s voice pulls me back. What do you think? We should justjust forget the meals. I don’t want to be a burden if she doesn’t want to make the medicine for me.

She is sobbing, and for the first time, I feel a sense of annoyance towards her.

Fine.

The sobbing hiccups stop abruptly. WWhat?

Since the medicine is important for your wellbeing, I’ll arrange for a specialist to oversee your care.

Aires, you don’t have to–

r

It’s settled. They will supervise your diet and daily care, effective immediately.

I end the call, feeling my anger rising with each breath. I turn to face Aeson, and find Talia’s reflection in his soft eyebrows, pinched together into a frown.

Her influence isn’t just limited to a resemblance in their faces, is it? She has also been poisoning his mind against a sick woman.

I remember how he behaved last night, and I won’t be tolerating this behaviour.

Aeson! You called Imema something inappropriate yesterday. Tell

me, did your mother teach you that word?

I ask coldly, leaving no room for leverage. His shoulders stiffen, eyes darting around from one side, trying to find a way to

escape.

  1. 60.

His guilt is evident in the way he mumbles, unable to hold contact with me.

NoMom didn’t teach me that.

Hm, so he’s getting confident with lies now.

I have relied on Talia for so long, but she is getting really

reckless!

If she’s incapable of raising the heir properly, perhaps she needs time to reflect on her mistakes.

Aeson, pack your bag. You will stay with your grandparents at Perseus Manor for a few days.

Really, father?

His head snaps up, eyes bright with excitement.

Aunt Lyla told me that the last time you sent me there, mom apologised and came back to her senses. Will she apologise and come back again?

Maybeshe will.

In any case, I’m just doing what is necessary.

I don’t ask myself for whom.

Talia’s POV

The chat interface glows on my phone screen, where a new message has just popped up: [Today’s menu: baked caviar eggs, a Caesar salad]

r

My finger hovers, then taps. [Leave Group].

A confirmation pops up.

Block Contact: Aires Perseus.

Block Contact: Imema Volkov.

Just three taps, and I’m not tied to this mess anymore

Was it that easy the whole time?

I scroll up through the group chat, through Imema’s endless and detailed demands about five courses every meal, three meals a daymeals that she would frequently abandon just to go out and have dinner with Aires and Aeson.

It’s then that I realise, maybe it doesn’t matter how easy it was. I have endured too much to get to this point.

I look

up from my phone to find Electra staring at me like I’ve just walked into live traffic with a blindfold over my eyes.

Talia, she said slowly. You’re serious about this?

I set my phone down with steady hands.

Do I look like I’m joking?

No, but

But what?

She sighs, dragging a hand through her hair. Before, whenever Imema has forced you to apologise and repeatedly tries to humiliate you, you stand firm at first, determined to not give in. But then Aeson gets sick, or Aires says you can’t see him and you melt-

Not this time.

I lean back against the counter and meet her worried gaze.

Last time, I believed my greatest purpose was being his mother. Sacrificing everything for him, including my dignity, was the definition of love.

I pick up my tea and take a sip.

I was wrong, and I won’t let it happen this time.

Electra finally cracks a smile.

Well! In that case, I’m treating you tonight. We’re going out-

Electra-

No!

She waved me off. Talia! You were the pride of Altheria University. Pianist, dancer, topper! Do you have any idea how many people on campus had made you their ideal type?

No, and I don’t care-

Oh, come on!

She pokes my

shoulder.

You’re the woman who once received seven marriage proposals in a single night after her debut performance. That woman is in there somewhere!

I laugh, surprised by her argument.

Taliathere are other worlds beyond the pack gates.

I hesitate, then finally nod. Perhaps feeling something, even discomfort, is better than feeling nothing at all.

At eight o’clock, I let Electra steer me into The Howling Note.

It’s not a raucous club like I expected, but an upscale bar with dark wood, warm yellow lighting, and the soft notes of jazz playing in the background.

Electra leans close. See? New place, excellent crowd

I exhale, only to hear a familiar voice, woven with the mocking tone of aristocracy.

Well, well well! If it isn’t Aireslittle shadow. What happened, Luna! In search of your lost husband again?
