Alpha’s Discarded Luna
Chapter 112
Aeson’s POV
I stand at the edge of the playground, watching the crowd gather around Robin like he’s some kind of celebrity. It’s been like this ever since the competition. Everywhere he goes, kids flock to him, eyes shining with admiration and envy.
The others hang on his every word like he’s telling secrets from another world. It used to be me they looked at like that… before everything changed.
“Robin!” A girl from my class runs up to him, bouncing with excitement.

“Was that really your mom on stage?
She’s so beautiful! Like a fairy princess from my storybook!”
Robin glances at me for a second, then smiles brightly at her.
“She’s not my mom yet,” he says, loud enough for everyone to hear.
A clever boy catches on immediately.
“Yet? Does that mean she will be soon?”
r
Robin nods vigorously, his face glowing with pure pride. “Ms. Perseus is getting a divorce. After she divorces her husband,
she’s going to be my mom. My dad is going to marry her.”

Divorce. Grandma and Aunt Athena talk
about it sometimes when they think I’m not listening. It means Mom won’t live with us anymore… means she won’t be my
mom anymore.
But nobody told me that she’ll be his
mom!
The other kids‘ eyes light up.
“Really?” A chubby boy pushes forward. “Can I have a mom like that too? My mom never does anything fun.”
“Robin, my dad is single now!” A girl with braids tugs at his sleeve. “Can you introduce the pretty aunt to him?”

“No way!” Another boy shoves between them. “Your dad is ugly! Robin, my dad is way better looking… he has a brand new sports car too!”
“Robin, remember that limited edition car model you wanted? I’ll give it to you if you let me borrow the pretty aunt for a few days!”
They crowd around him, pushing and shoving, all trying to get closer to the boy who might have the most amazing mom in the world.
They’re practically fighting over her… over
my mom.

A little girl clutching a ragged doll sighs dreamily. “I’m so jealous of whoever gets to be her kid… If I had a mom who is so pretty, I would be happy every single day. I will never complain about anything.”
The words hit me like a punch to the stomach. My face suddenly feels cold, then burning hot. My vision blurs for a
second.
Robin turns to the crowd, his voice full of genuine happiness as he launches into
stories about Mom.
“Yes! Ms. Perseus is really amazing. She makes all kinds of wonderful food, even4:29

better than restaurants. She makes chicken soup every single day because my stomach is weak and my hands and feet get cold at night. She studied all this stuff just to help me get better.”
He holds up a thermos, beaming. “This is today’s soup. She said the kindergarten food isn’t good for my recovery right now, so she packed it specially for me.”
The kids stare at the thermos like it’s
treasure.

“She’s like a superhero!” someone gasps.
“I asked my mom to pack lunch once and she just told me to buy something from the cafeteria.”

A boy wrinkles his nose. “I hate chicken soup. My mom makes me drink it when I’m sick and I want to throw up.”
Robin smiles like he knows a secret nobody else does.
“That’s because you’ve only had regular chicken soup. Ms. Perseus makes it special… it tastes good and it’s healthy too. It’s like magic soup.”
He opens the thermos. The familiar smell drifts across the playground. I remember that smell. I used to drink it without
thinking, without thanking her.
“It smells delicious!”

Robin pulls out little paper cups starts pouring small portions, handing them out with a happy grin.
“This is the best thing I’ve ever tasted!”
“I wish I could eat this every single day!”
“Robin, give me more!”
Two kids start arguing over a cup, and a teacher has to rush over to separate them.
I stand frozen at the edge, nails digging into my palms. I want to walk away, but my legs won’t move. I was embarrassed to tell anyone she was my mom… and now

these kids are fighting just to taste her
food.
Robin notices me standing there. To my surprise, he carefully pours one more cup, then walks over to me with a gentle expression. He stops right in front of me and holds the cup out.
“Here, Aeson. You look cold over here.”
I stare at his hand, not trusting him.
୮
He smiles. “Miss. Perseus says we should always share the good things in life.”
He presses the cup into my frozen fingers. “So thank you. Thank you for sharing
your wonderful mother with me. I never:29

His eyes are shining with delight as he
goes on,
“She’s not only pretty but so talented! How amazingly she impressed
everyone…”
My chest aches. I want to shove the

back at him. I want to scream that she’s not your mother, she’s mine!
But the warmth seeps into my palms, and I suddenly feel grateful for it. Then the shame crashes over me.

your dad like so much, she must also be good, right? Although not like Miss. Perseus, she’s quite talented too.”
I feel a voice echoing in my head, completing his sentence: “But not talented enough to win first prize!”
I shake my head, feeling shocked that I can even think such a horrible thing about Imema. She’s better, so much better than mom, I just can’t figure out how to
convince Robin about it.
Robin tilts his head, watching me struggle. Then he adds, almost as an afterthought,

She always said yes, but Dad was busy, and going without him didn’t feel right. Then Ms. Volkov came along. She took me and Dad to the amusement park on Mom’s birthday and left Mom at home.
I laughed on the rides and ate cotton candy like it was the best day ever. I never thought about how she felt that day, but now I do.
I sat there, feeling sadder than I had in a long time.
The door opened softly. Imema stepped in, her expression warm and determined. “I’m not going to let you mope around in sadness like this. Come on, we should have a day out as well. Just you and me,429
