Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 115

Chapter 113

Aeson’s POV

I stand at the edge, fists clenched, watching the kids swarm around Robin, still gushing over Mom’s soup and how lucky he is.

Their excited voices keep repeating how amazing she is, how they wish they had a mom like her.

Something hot and painful rises in my throat, I just want these loud thoughts to stop buzzing in my head. I step forward and point at him, my voice rising above the chatter.

Ms. Volkov is not useless! You can’t talk

about her like that!

Robin blinks, tilting his head with confusion. Huh? I didn’t say anything

about Ms. Volkov

But the words are already spilling out of me. She buys me lots of delicious things! Cakes and ice cream and-

Robin’s face softened with concern. Butyou had that big allergic reaction to the things she bought you. Remember the hospital and the stomach pump? Wasn’t that scary? I thought people who take care of you check those things first.

Sheshe cooks for me.

Like that seafood soup?Robin asked quietly. The one that sent you to the emergency room? I don’t understand why she keeps making things that hurt you. Miss. Perseus always asks me about allergies before she cooks anything.

My face heated up. She can play the piano—

Robin nodded. She does. But she still

lost to Ms. Perseus at the recital. Ms. Perseus got one hundred and Ms. Volkov got ninetynine point nine. I thought Ms. Volkov would be happy for her, but she seemed really upset instead.

I stood there, searching for something, anythingthat Robin couldn’t question. My mind raced through every memory with Ms. Volkov, but each one suddenly felt shaky.

I trailed off, realizing I had nothing solid.

Robin looks genuinely sorry. I didn’t mean to make you sad, I just notice things. Like how she cries a lot and sometimes blames other people for things. Ms. Perseus never does that. She just tries to make everyone happy.

He smiles a little, kind and bright. You

know what? I should thank you and your dad. Because you didn’t like Ms. Perseus at first, my dad and I get to have her in our lives now. She’s really perfect.

The kids around us stayed quiet, listening.

You know, how I could share my lunch with everyone so easily?

He gestures to a tiffin and thermos tucked inside his bag. She made a big batch of soup so I could share it with everyone. I asked her to make more because it’s so

good and I wanted the other kids to taste how amazing she is. Now I’m going, I need to gave my lunch.

He said it so innocently, without any

meanness, that it hit harder than any insult. He walked away to join the other kids, who were still chatting happily about the soup and how lucky Robin was to have someone like Ms. Perseus.

The days passed in a blur. It was Sunday morning, and I was sitting at home, staring at the floor, lost in thought. The house felt too quiet.

Imema sits beside me and smiles at

me, the way I used to feel giddy with excitement.

Hey, where do you wanna go today? We gan go anywhere you like.

Nowhere,I muttered.

She tilted her head. Why? Your mother is out there planning to go to the

amusement park with Robin, I heard him mention it when I came to pick you up yesterday

shrugged. I don’t care about it.

Without another word, I stand up abruptly and went upstairs. I shut my room door behind me and sat on the edge of my bed, alone. The silence pressed in as memories flooded me.

Mom never took me to the amusement

park, no matter how many times I asked.

He tilts his head, thinking. But I’m sure there is someone to take care of you also, like you take care of her. Right?

I suddenly feel helpless, unable to decide how to react.

I want to hit him, I want to scream. I want

to tell him he’s wrong, that Ms. Volkov is amazing, that Mom was never that special anyway, that I made the right choice.

But the words get stuck in my throat.

I hesitated, staring at the floor. Part of me wanted to stay hidden in my room. But eventually I nodded.

As I sat in the car beside her, watching the streets pass by, one thought kept circling in my mind: How can Mom abandon me
