Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 116

Chapter 114

Aeson’s POV

Imema parks near a colorful stall selling popcorn and dumplings. The delicious smell wafts through the air, and the distant sounds of laughter and amusement park rides drift toward us.

What flavour do you want, Aeson?

Imema asks cheerfully, pointing at the stall. Sweet caramel popcorn or spicy? Or maybe the cheese one? The chicken dumplings look good too.

I shrug, still lost in my thoughts. Before I çan answer, Imema suddenly looks across

the road and says,

Oh, I’ve seen that dress somewhere. Is

that Luna Talia?

She points vaguely toward the crowd near the park entrance, then turns away with an offhand remark. Anyway, never mind. Let me order for us, okay Aeson? Tell me if you need anything else

But I’m not hearing anything she is saying.

My heart jumps. I perk up instantly and step out of the car without thinking. I move closer, straining to catch a glimpse of the familiar emerald green dress among the people heading toward the

gates.

I walk faster, following the shadow I think

I saw.

By the time I realize what has happened, I am already inside the amusement park. The noise and crowds surround me. I turn around quickly, searching for Imema, but she is nowhere in sight. The spot where I wandered off from is empty. No Imema,

no familiar car.

Panic rises in my chest. I hurry back toward the entrance, looking everywhere, but she is not there. My breathing

quickens. Where did she go? Why did she leave me?

Just then, I spot three familiar figures walking through the entrance area: Robin and his dad, and my mom.

She’s holding Robin’s hand, leaning down to listen to something he’s saying. Her whole face is bright with a warm, gentle, happy smile that reaches all the way to her eyes.

She used to smile at me like that.

But when did she stop? And why? Doesn’t she love me anymore?

I follow them from a distance, hiding

behind poles and crowds so they won’t see

I watch them ride the Ferris wheel, the

carousel, the pirate ship, both of them

screaming with laughter as it swings back

and forth.

They stop at a shooting gallery. Robin picks up the little gun, squints one eye, and fires. He misses, again and again until he finally hits something on the third try.

It’s a small stuffed bear, the cheapest prize on the wall. But he grins like he’s won an Olympic medal, giving it to mom.

But she takes it like it’s the most precious gift in the world, holding it to her chest, giving him a thumbs up. Her smile is so bright it hurts to look at.

I snort to myself- that cheap bear? Please. My shooting skills are way better than his. I could win one of those in my sleep!

I’ve won much better prizesGrandma’s right, mom hasn’t seen much of the world. She gets excited over nothing.

That bear probably cost less than two

dollars!

But that time, I won a beautiful crystal music box which played a beautiful melody and sparkled under the lights, all different colors. If I give that to Mom, she

will-

I stop.

I already gave that music box to Ms. Volkov.

She smiled and said thank you. That was it. Justthank you. Then she put it on a shelf somewhere and I never saw it again.

I follow them through the amusement park like a shadow, feeling just as unseen and unwanted. Nobody is taking care of me, asking about me or even bothering to notice that I’m there.

My feet hurt, and my chest hurts with running and holding back my tears. But I can’t stop watching.

A sharp pang hits my heart. I want to run over to them, but I am too stubborn to move. My feet stay planted even as everything inside me screams to go closer.

I keep watching from behind a tall pillar.

Suddenly, Mom turns around, as if she can sense someone watching her. Her eyes scan the crowd slowly, focusing on a few faces not far from where I’m standing,

frozen.

My heart races fast, almost like I just got caught by her. Fear spikes through me. I duck behind the pillar, pressing my back against the cool surface, barely breathing.

Just as I’m thinking, someone taps me 14:30

from behind. My breath gets stuck in my throat, panic spiking.

Are you Alpha Airesson?he asks, I thought I had seen you somewhere!

The tall man has a polite smile on his face, dressed simply as he extends his hand towards me, as if waiting for me to say hello.
