Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 142

Chapter 138-2

Imema’s POV

My face flushes, then pales. I can feel the heat crawling up my neck, and I hate it. I hate that this old man can make me feel so small with just a few words.

Mr. Carter, you have misunderstood me.I keep my voice sweet, apologetic. Let him see how reasonable I am. I mean, I did not have lunch, and I just wanted to go out with Alpha to grab a bite.

Jack does not even blink. He puts it bluntly, the way he does everything. I will give you one hour. If you are not back within one hour, you will have to stay an extra hour today. If you are not back within two hours, you will have to stay four hours longer.

My mouth opens. Closes. An extra hour? Four hours? This is absurd. I am not a child to be punished.

Aires frowns beside me, and I feel a flicker of relief. He will say something. He will put this ridiculous man in his place.

eyes that makes even my Alpha straighten up slightly. Rules are what keep things in order.Jack’s voice is calm, reasonable, infuriating. You are the president of your company. Would you allow your employees to be late or leave early?

Aires’s jaw tightens. But she does not work here after all.

Jack lets out a sneer, and I feel my hands curl into fists at my sides. I cure her terminal illness for free, and all I ask is for her to do some odd jobs for a few days. Is that too much to ask?He looks at Aires, then at me, and his eyes are like ice. If you do not even care about your own life, then do not expect others to go all out to save you.

Aires says nothing. He stands there, silent, and I feel my breath catch in my chest. He is not going to argue. He is not going to fight for me. He just stands there like a man who has run out of words.

I want to scream. I want to point at this impostor, this fraud, and tell Aires everything. I want to expose him for the liar he is. How can I not see that he is purposely giving me a hard time? That this is all a game to humiliate me?

It is Talia. It must be Talia. She is the one behind this, collaborating with him to pick on me. I can feel her presence across the room, probably watching, probably enjoying every moment. My resentment toward her deepens, a hot coal settling in my chest.

Aires glances at me, and I see the calculation in his eyes. Imema, do you want to go to the hospital, or would you rather stay here?

He is not dumb. I can see him looking at my hand, at the scratches that have already stopped bleeding, already started to clot. They do not even need bandaging. They certainly do not need a hospital. He knows it. I know it.

I had hoped to escape. To leave this wretched place and never come back. But if I leave now, I will have to come back for an extra day. An entire extra day of picking herbs and being insulted by this old tyrant. The thought makes my stomach turn.

I force a wry smile onto my face. It is alright, Alpha. Just go back. I am fine.

Aires checks his watch. I see the flicker of impatience in his eyes, the way his mind is already moving on to his 4:00

meeting, his company, his important life that does not

Okay then. I am leaving now.

He turns and walks toward the door without looking

back.

The door closes behind him, and I am left standing here, my stomach growling, my hands scratched, my pride in shreds.

I whip my head around, and there she is. Talia is watching me with that teasing grin playing on her lips, like I am nothing. Her smile says she has won this round, enjoying every moment of my humiliation.

I bite my lip hard enough to taste copper.

Alpha has actually forgotten that I have not had lunch? Is he going to forget me too?
