Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 141

Chapter 138-1

Talia’s POV

I drop my head and catch Robin’s eye. He is looking at me with a playful little wink, and I have to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from smiling.

What a little smarty pants!

Some words have entirely different impacts depending on who speaks them. If I had said what Robin just said, it would sound like bitterness. If Jack said it, it would sound like favoritism. But Robin is just a child. A child who has no reason to lie, no agenda to push.

Even Aires, for all his softness toward Imema, cannot dismiss the details Robin recounted. He would not have known them unless he heard them with his own ears.

I watch the realization settle over Aires’s face. It is like watching someone receive a stinging slap in slow motion.

He swallows hard. Several seconds pass before he finally speaks, his voice low and deep. Sorry. I misunderstood you.

I do not let any of that show on my face. Since Imema’s situation is so special, you should take her away quickly. Don’t hold up her treatment.

Imema has no desire to stay here, that much is obvious. She extends her hand toward Aires, her voice going high and pitiful. Alpha, my fingers got cut by those herbs. She holds up her hand, showing off the faint red scratches. I am scared I will not be able to play the piano ever again.

I glance at her fingers. There are indeed some red marks there, though nothing deep. But Imema has always taken meticulous care of her hands. To her, these scratches are probably a catastrophe.

Jack snorts from his corner, his voice cutting through her dramatics like a blade. Don’t worry, you will not.

Imema blinks at him.

Talia has been assisting me for ages, and I have never seen her have any problem playing the piano. He fixes Imema with a cold stare. I only asked you to pick the herbs. Not to chop your hands off.

the piano?

Jack’s brows knit together. What?He looks between

Aires and me. You have been married to her for five years. Do not tell me you do not even know what she used to do.

Aires’s thin lips press together. He says nothing.

I stand very still. Jack lets out a cold snort. You can take Imema away, but you heard my terms before. She needs to work as a handyman for me for a week. If she bails early today, she will have to stay an extra day.

Imema’s expression freezes. An extra day?

Jack does not even dignify that with a pause. Do you think this is some kind of selfie spot? A place where just anybody can waltz in and show off, then leave when they feel bored?

Imema’s mouth opens, but Jack is not finished.

If you do not feel like coming, just stay at home.He shrugs one shoulder. “I am not into forcing folks. And I 39 not care for people who are not sincere either.14:00

Diana. His voice softens, just slightly, when he says my name. If it were someone else, they would have left after less than half a day.He shakes his head. What more can I ask for?

Imema’s face stiffens. She forces a smile, her voice going sweet again. Mr. Carter, you have got it wrong. It is not that I do not want to stay here. The thing is, I do not know how to do any of this. I am just worried I will be all clumsy and make trouble for you.

Jack is not falling for it. Not even a little. Robin is only five years old,he says, jerking his chin toward the boy. And he never griped about being hard up or tired. He arches an eyebrow at Imema. So? You cannot even stack up against a kid that age?”

Imema’s smile wavers.

Jack leans back, his eyes sharp. If your terminal illness has gotten so bad that you cannot even take care of yourself, then I am sorry. There is nothing I can do for you.He waves a dismissive hand. Please go back.
