Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 144

Chapter 139-2

I step in front of Robin. In front of Jack. I plant my feet and I do not move.

Scram. My voice comes out cold, steady. You big bully.

Nick’s face is bright red from the scalding, his skin blotchy and inflamed. His eyes are watering, his vision probably blurring. I have never seen him like this. He has always been quick to anger, always volatile, but this is something else. This is a man who has lost control entirely.

He has endured a lot at my hands, or so he believes. He despises me. He despises Robin, He despises Jack. Showing up here was never just about defending Imema. It was about revenge. About finally having an excuse to unleash all the rage he has been bottling up.

Now his face, the face he is so vain about, is scalded. His eyes flare a furious scarlet, and something in him snaps.

Talia! His voice is guttural, unrecognizable. You bitch. I will kill you.

Mr. Thorne,he says, his voice small but clear. Do you want to have the same last name as Imema? Should I call you Mr. Volkov from now on?

For a moment, I am not sure what he means. Then I understand. If the family name is not Thorne, then does it have to be Jackson? The thought crosses my mind, quick and sharp. But Aeson is already not the smartest. Adding another one like that might just bring more misfortune.

Nick does not find it funny. He charges at us like a raving lunatic, his arms outstretched, his face a mask of pure hatred.

I am going to fucking kill you.

Behind him, I see Imema. Her mouth is open, making a show of trying to dissuade him, but her feet do not move. She does not step forward. And for just a moment, the smallest fraction of a second, I see the corners of her mouth curl upward.

Nick, calm down, she calls out, her voice high and worried. Let us have a good talk.

But she doesn’t move an inch from her place.

I don’t wait either, I’m not foolish enough to face this man headon. I grab Robin’s hand, and we dart into the back room. I slam the door shut behind us and twist the lock just as Nick’s body slams against it from the other side.

The bang is deafening. The door panel shudders violently, the old wood groaning under the impact.

Robin stares at the door, his eyes huge. Mr. Carter,he says, uncertainty creeping into his voice. Is this door strong enough?

Jack clears his throat, and I hear him moving toward us. His voice is low. This door has been here for decades. I doubt it can hold up against his banging.

Robin’s face pales. What should we do?His voice is small, frightened. I am afraid that he has lost his mind.

I reach out and pat his head, smoothing his hair down. My hand is steady, even if my heart is not. It is okay.I keep my voice calm, gentle. I have already called the police.

Another crash against the door. The wood splinters 14:00 slightly around the lock.

my ear, and my voice changes. It shakes. It trembles. It fills with panic that is not entirely feigned.

There is a crazy man outside right now.My voice cracks, just enough. He is pounding on our door and yelling that he is going to kill us. It is really scary. We have got a fiveyearold kid and a seventyyearold man in here. There is no way we can handle him.

I turn on the speaker.

Nick slams against the door again, and the crash is thunderous, earsplitting, filling the small room with sound that seems to shake the walls.
