Alpha's Discarded Luna (Talia) novel Chapter 145

< Alpha’s Discarded Luna

Chapter 140

Author’s POV

The police officer’s voice takes on a more solemn tone. Try to hide. Find weapons nearby to protect yourself. We will get there as soon as possible.

Talia sets the phone down, her hand steady despite the chaos outside. Robin still looks apprehensive, his small body pressed close to her side.

Ms. Perseus,he asks, his voice barely a whisper, can we hold out until the police arrive?

She smiles slightly and reaches down to ruffle his hair. Do not worry. We will.

While she speaks, she turns to glance at Jack. Mr. Carter, she says, her voice calm and measured, do you have any medicine for allergies?

Jack’s eyes meet hers. He immediately understands what she is trying to do. A slow, predatory smile spreads across his weathered face.

with him for life.

Without another word, he rummages through his shelves, grabbing bottles and jars with practiced hands. He does not measure. He does not pause. He simply pours their contents together into a single pile, mixing them with the casual confidence of a man who has spent a lifetime mastering his craft.

Outside, the banging grows more violent. The door shudders with each impact, dust raining down from the frame.

Then, with a final crash, the gate gives way and collapses

inward.

Nick stands in the doorway, his face contorted with rage, his chest heaving. His eyes scan the room, looking for his

targets.

Jack does not hesitate. He flings the powder directly into Nick’s face and shouts to Talia and Robin, Cover your

mouths.

They obey instantly, hands pressed over their noses and months.

does not know what Jack has mixed together. All he knows is that his eyes feel like they are on fire.

He clasps his hands over his eyes and writhes on the ground, howling in pain. The sound echoes off the walls,

raw and animalistic.

Within moments, red rashes begin to surface across his face, his neck, his hands. He scratches at himself like a madman, his nails digging into his own skin. His face and body are soon streaked with bloody marks, the welts raised and angry.

It hurts! His voice cracks. It itches! Ahhh!He

thrashes on the floor, unable to stop scratching. Imema, help me.

Imema stands frozen in the doorway. Her eyes are wide, her face pale. She takes a step forward, then another step back. She looks at Nick writhing on the ground, at Talia standing calmly behind Jack, at Robin peeking out from behind Talia’s legs. Her mouth opens and closes, but no words come out.

She does not move to help him.

Sirens wail in the distance, growing louder. The police arrive within minutes, pushing through the broken gate. They take in the scene before themthe collapsed door, the powder scattered across the floor, Nick’s ravaged bodyand their eyes go wide.

Without a moment’s delay, they dial 911. An ambulance is dispatched immediately.

Inside the hospital ward, Nick lies swathed from head to toe in bandages. Only his eyes and mouth are visible, peeking out through gaps in the white wrappings. His eyes remain swollen, reduced to angry slits. The effect is almost comical, but the injuries beneath are severe.

He is still hollering, his voice hoarse but no less venomous. I must send them all to jail. Fuck.He tries to move, to gesture, but the bandages restrict him. I will make them suffer for it.

In his rage, he has forgotten something important. He4:13 has forgotten that Talia is still married to Aires. He has

that Robin is Raymond’s son. He cannot do whatever he wants. But rage has clouded his judgment, and he sees only revenge.

Imema sits beside his bed, ostensibly comforting him. She dabs at his forehead with a damp cloth, she murmurs soothing words. But her touch is light, her words

carefully chosen. She fuels the fire, making incendiary remarks about Talia, about Jack, about the little brat who

dared to mock him. Each word lands like oil on flames.

Ten minutes later, Aires arrives.

He has just finished signing a contract and was on his way back to the company when Imema called. Now he stands in the doorway of the hospital room, massaging his weary brows. A profound sense of exhaustion settles over him.

What happened now?His voice is flat.

Nick spits out the words like poison. It was Talia! He tries to sit up, but fails. She was the one who teamed up with that little brat and that stinky old man to put me in the hospital.

her, and that little brat and the stinky old man too.

Aires frowns. He is not stupid. Robin is only five. And Jack? He is seventy years old.He studies Nick’s wrapped form. Even if they teamed up, it would be difficult to mess you up this bad, would it not?

There is an inherent disparity in strength between men and women. Even with the element of surprise, the idea that Talia, a child, and an elderly man could inflict this level of damage does not add up.

Before Nick can respond, a knock comes at the ward door. Several police officers walk in, their uniforms crisp, their expressions professional.

One of them steps forward. Mr. Thorne, you are under suspicion of deliberately damaging other people’s property and using violence to threaten and intimidate them. His voice is calm, matteroffact. The situation is rather serious. Given that you are currently injured and receiving treatment in the hospital, we will conduct the interrogation right here.

Nick is dumbfounded. His swollen eyes blink rapidly. Are you kidding me?His voice rises. I am lying here in the hospital, and instead of arresting those murderers,

< Chapter 140

The officer’s expression does not change. Mr. Thorne, the injury that landed you in the hospital was not caused by them. You did it to yourself.

Nick’s mouth hangs open.

We have already got the whole story. The officer pulls out a small notebook. You busted the door open and

knocked over the shelf beside it. That made the medicines spill and triggered your allergy. It has nothing to do with anybody else.

He finishes speaking and catches sight of Aires standing nearby. The department has already sorted out the

interpersonal connections of everyone around Talia. They know exactly who Aires is.

The officer continues, his tone shifting just slightly. Mr. Perseus, your wife has been quite shaken up. Are you sure you do not want to go check on her?He pauses. Anyway, it was Nick who started this mess this time. No matter how you look at it, he is in the wrong.

The officer maintains an impartial manner, but there is an odd glint in his eyes when he looks at Aires. He thinks about what he knows. Aires’s socalled good brother 14:13

showed up with his mistress just to taunt his wife. That is

< Chapter 140

Talia, from what he can gather, is of good character. She knows the law well enough that she did not bother arguing with Nick. Otherwise, if a real brawl had broken out, even if it was a mutual scuffle, she would not get any favors.

It is not until this moment that Aires finally grasps what is happening. His brows draw together in a tight frown. A faint sense of annoyance wells up in his chest. Why has he never realized before that Nick can stir up so much trouble for him?
