Chapter 146
Talia’s POV
Jack looks at the doctor, then at Imema, then back at Aires. I can see the certainty in his eyes. He is almost positive these doctors have been bought off by Imema.
It is clear Jack has no patience for people like this.
He turns to Aires, his voice blunt as a hammer. “I have already told you. I can cure her. But if you insist on listening to these quacks, do not bother coming to me again. I do not have time to waste on people who think they are too good for my methods.”
His unwavering confidence catches Aires off guard.
Knowing Aires, he must have asked his men to investigate Jack’s background. I know the old man’s past is shrouded in mystery, but one thing is undeniable, his medical skills are extraordinary.
There are traceable records of him successfully treating patients with incurable diseases. His eccentric personality is also well–documented.

if Aires thinks about it, the tasks Jack assigns to Imema are relatively mild in comparison.
After a moment of reflection, Aires finally speaks. “Do not worry, sir. I will make sure Imema is sent to you
tomorrow.”
Jack crosses his arms, his tone sharp as ever. “She has wasted another day today, so we will have to delay by another day. And let me be clear, she still needs to make up for the work she skipped. No exceptions.”
His piercing gaze shifts to the unconscious Imema lying on the hospital bed. I watch her face. Her eyelids flicker almost imperceptibly.
“In my care, laziness and excuses will not get you anywhere.” Jack’s voice carries through the room. “If she does not care about saving her own life, that is her problem. I am not the one with a terminal illness. She can keep dragging her feet if she wants. After all, I am not the one in a hurry.”
Imema’s eyes shoot open, and I see the fury flash across her face before she catches herself, slumping back against the pillows with a groan.

Once outside, Jack pauses and glances at me. His voice is lower now, meant only for me. “Did you dig into her illness properly?”
I open the car door for him, my expression calm. “We did. All we found were fabricated medical records. As for her real condition, even Mr. Capaldi’s people could not uncover anything.”
Jack nods slowly, a knowing look crossing his face. “So, she has got someone powerful covering for her.” A grim smile tugs at his lips. “Interesting. Do you plan on exposing her?”
I fasten my seatbelt and wait for him to settle into the passenger seat. “Of course I do. But not yet.”
He raises an eyebrow. “Oh?”
I start the car, pulling out of the hospital parking lot. “If I expose her now, Aires might suddenly decide against the divorce. Let her keep playing her little game. It would be best if she can marry into the Perseus family.”
I pause, letting a small smile cross my face. “I would love to see who comes out on top. Her or Mrs. Diana Perseys,

“You have got guts, girl.” He shakes his head, still chuckling. “Always settling scores, aren’t you?” He pats the dashboard like he is patting my shoulder. “Good for you.”
Imema’s POV
In the days that follow, my attempts to fake fainting and illness stop working. Every time I clutch my head and sway, Talia reaches for her phone.
Every time I groan about dizziness, Jack tells me to lie down in the storage room where there is no one to take care of me. Left with no other options, I finally give up.
It is becoming clear to me that my recent actions have gone too far, and Aires is starting to lose patience. I see it in the way his voice flattens when I call and in the silences that stretch too long between us.
Yesterday, he said it plainly. “Imema, is a little temporary discomfort really so unbearable compared to your life?”
His voice was cold. I have never heard him sound like
that with me before.

five–year–old can handle it, are you seriously saying you cannot do the same?”
I had no answer. I stood there with my mouth open, humiliation burning in my chest. A five–year–old. He compared me to a five–year–old.
I ran to Nick. He is the only one who still listens, the only
one who understands how unfair this all is.
Nick listens to my complaints, his face growing redder with every word. He lashes out at Talia, cursing her with words that would make most people flinch. I let him rage. It feels good to hear someone angry on my behalf.
But when he finally calms down, he sits beside me and takes my hand. His voice is quieter now, more measured.
“Imema, just endure it for now.” He squeezes my fingers. “Once we get that old man’s prescription, I will personally make sure his shop is torn to the ground.”
I nod, but I can see the calculation behind his eyes. He has cooled down, and I know what that means. He is thinking about consequences.

accomplish anything. The only person he could actually touch is Jack. Robin is Raymond’s son. Untouchable.
Talia is Aires’s wife. He does not dare lay a finger on her. That leaves only the powerless old man.
No matter how much he badmouths Talia in front of
Aires, Nick knows one thing. If he ever actually hurt her, Aires would not forgive him. He understands that Aires still cares about her, even if he pretends otherwise.
Now that Talia and the others refuse to reconcile, Nick also knows letting this escalate will not do him any good. Impulsive as he is, he is not stupid. He knows how to weigh the pros and cons. He does not want to lose his position as the heir to the Thorne family. And with Talia still holding his settlement agreement, he cannot afford to make things worse.
He lowers his voice, leaning closer to me. “Just hold on a bit longer. I heard that Alpha and Talia are planning to file for divorce after the holiday.”
My breath catches. “Divorce?”
“That is right.” He nods, his expression serious. “Talia used your illness and my settlement agreement to

A billion dollars. The number echoes in my head. Talia is walking away with a billion dollars?
“Are you serious?” I grab his arm, my fingers digging in. “Is that true?”
Nick nods with confidence. “Absolutely. I overheard part of a conversation between Alpha and Richard.”
I take a deep breath, trying to suppress the excitement bubbling inside me. Talia is leaving. After all this time, she is finally leaving.
“You are saying they will start the process after the holiday?”
“Exactly.” Nick’s tone carries a hint of disdain. “I even asked Alpha, and he admitted it himself.” He pauses, his jaw tightening. “But it is only the cooling–off period. Who knows if that woman will change her mind in the end? After all, she is walking away with one billion dollars.”
One billion dollars. Jealousy cuts through me like a blade. Talia does not deserve that money. She has done nothing to earn it. She sat in that house for years, doing nothing, being nothing. That money should be mine. As Aires‘$4:16 future wife, as the woman who actually loves him, that

I think for a moment, my mind racing. Then I lean closer to Nick, my voice dropping to a whisper.
“Nick, I have got an idea.” I look him straight in the eye. “Let’s make sure that begging bitch doesn’t get a single penny.”
