Chapter 148
Talia’s POV
Her cries fill the lobby, raw and despairing. I stand frozen, watching her fall apart in front of strangers.
People around her move closer, offering comfort. Someone puts a hand on her shoulder, another presses a tissue into her trembling fingers.
“If he hits you again, call the police,” a woman firmly suggests. “Have him arrested. With solid evidence, the court will almost certainly grant your divorce.”
“Exactly!” A man nods vigorously. “If the first trial does not work, file for an appeal. As long as you are determined, the second trial will definitely rule in your
favor.”
The woman wipes her face with trembling hands, tears and snot mixing together as she cries even harder.
“The appeal process takes six months before I can even file again.” Her voice is barely a whisper now, choked with despair. “I want to call the police, I really do. I want him↑ 6

father has a criminal record, our child will not be able to qualify for certain jobs in the future.”
I look at Aires, who is watching the scene with an unreadable expression.
“With the economy the way it is, nothing is more secure than a government job. That is why I have endured his abuse for so many years.”
She wipes her face with trembling hands.
“But this year, he went too far. He broke several of my ribs. I couldn’t take it anymore. I decided to leave everything behind. The house, the money, all the assets. Everything belongs to him now. I will take the child, raise them myself, and I will not even ask for child support.”
She looks up at the crowd, her eyes glassy with exhaustion. “When I told him that, he finally agreed to the divorce. But now?” A bitter laugh escapes her. “I have been waiting two months just to book the cooling–off period. At this rate, the appeal hearing will happen before I can even finalize the divorce.”
After hearing this, everyone around her sighs. Spme 14:16 shake their heads. Others look away, unable to bear the

I listen quietly, and a deep sadness wells up in my chest.
I understand this woman.
Once, I too chose to endure. I was weighed down by too many considerations. I was reluctant to leave because / of Aeson. I wanted to give him a complete family. The Perseus family could provide him with the best educational resources, the finest opportunities. I told myself these things mattered.
But those considerations became chains. They bound me. tightly to a marriage I no longer wanted. To a man who had stopped seeing me long ago.
If Aeson did not like Imema so much, would I still be in this marriage? Would I still be enduring everything for his sake?
I do not know the answer. I will never know.
I step out of the courthouse, and a cool breeze sweeps past me, lifting the stray strands of hair near my temples. The air feels fresh after the suffocating weight of the lobby.

“Alpha! Did you finish the divorce?”
Nick appears out of nowhere, his face lit with barely contained excitement. The bandages are gone now, and his scars are on full display. They crisscross his face in chaotic patterns, some healed into angry red lines, others still raw and puckered.
Aires frowns, noticing the excitement Nick cannot hide. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to congratulate—”
He catches himself halfway through, a choked cough covering his near–mistake.
“I’m here to collect the settlement agreement and the antidote.”
Aires turns his gaze toward me. “The settlement agreement?”
I do not bother arguing. Without a word, I reach into my bag and pull out the settlement agreement. I hold it out, and Aires takes it from my hand.

he is satisfied that everything is in order, he looks up.
“And the antidote for Nick? And Imema’s medication?”
Nick stands nearby, visibly uncomfortable. Without the bandages, some of the wounds look terrifying, almost as if he has been disfigured.
With his family’s level of wealth and influence, he must have seen countless doctors over the past few weeks. And clearly, none of them could do anything about the poison on his face.
It drives him crazy, I can see it in the way his fingers twitch, the way his eyes dart toward the vial in my bag.
I reach in and pull out a small glass bottle. “This is Nick’s antidote.”
Nick snatches it almost instantly. His movements are so quick, so desperate, it is as if he is afraid it might disappear. He clutches it to his chest, his scarred face twisting with relief.
Aires’s expression turns cold. “What about Imema’s?”

The agreement between us is simple. Money in exchange for medicine. Treating Imema’s condition will take time, but Jack will prepare all the necessary medication in one batch. I have promised to provide the prescription, the exact dosages, and a detailed treatment plan.
Nick speaks up, his voice sharp with accusation. “Talia, you are holding back Imema’s medication because you are afraid the truth will come out and you will not get that one billion dollars, right?”
I turn to look at him. His scarred face is twisted with something between smugness and spite.
“That is right.” My voice is calm, cutting. “I am not just afraid of losing the one billion dollars. I am also afraid the divorce will not go through.”
Nick’s POV
I open my mouth to argue, then shut it.
She is right. I did think about taking Imema’s medication and claiming it did not work so that the Alpha would blame Talia and make her pay.

party refuses, the divorce stops. If Talia backs out, Aires cannot force her… not with Aeson in the picture.
The divorce needs to happen. That is the priority. Everything else comes after.
